The US Department of Housing and Urban Development has issued a new report which shows homelessness in Louisiana has fallen over the past four years. The numbers indicate a 12 percent decline in the number of homeless people over the past year and down about 63 percent since 2010.

Louisiana is once again hit with another chilly day and is facing more freezing temperatures tonight. The National Weather Service has issued more freeze warnings for the bottom half of the state from 11pm tonight to 9am tomorrow morning. Meteorologist Joe Rua says most of the northern and central part of the state will get temperatures in the mid 20s…:

Governor Bobby Jindal and officials at LSU broke ground today on the university’s new Engineering complex. When it’s complete — estimated in 2017, the new facility will be one of the largest free-standing engineering buildings in the nation according to a release from Jindal’s office.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred in Jeanerette last night. Major Ryan Turner says Jeanerette Police responded to a suspicious person complaint. When they arrived, they learned the suspect had fled. 42-year-old Lance Dauphine was shot after stabbing the officer according to Turner. The suspect is charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder of a police officer.

Gas prices continue their rapid decline. The current statewide average for a gallon of regular is $2.71 which is down 6 cents from just last week.

Metairie based polling company Multi-Quest has already asked a group of voters who they’d like to see as Louisiana’s next Governor and US-Senator David Vitter leads the pack with 25.9 percent. 53% of those surveyed are undecided says pollster John Scurich. Democrats didn’t fair well in the poll but Scurich says if Democratic New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu decides to run it will change the game…:

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s office is investigating a Sunday night officer involved shooting out of the Jeanerette Police Department. They say 42-year-old Lance Dauphine was allegedly causing a disturbance when cops responded then got into an altercation with an officer who was then stabbed. The officer then shot the suspect. Officials say both the suspect and officer have been released from the hospital and Dauphine is charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder of a police officer.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for most of south Louisiana until 4pm this afternoon. Freeze warnings in those areas remain in effect from 11pm this evening to 9am tomorrow morning. Those in wind advisory areas are urged to secure loose objects and use caution when driving over high bridges.

Authorities say 27-year-old Juan Joseph was shot outside a nightclub in Baton Rouge during an argument. Joseph was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Mid-year budget cuts are looming in state government because of lower than anticipated revenues. The shortfall for this fiscal year ending June 30th is 171 million dollars and next year the shortage is projected to be $1.4 billion. Shreveport Police have arrested a man they say fired a shot that left another man hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. According to authorities, 23-year-old Brandon Brown mishandled a gun and it discharged. The bullet hit the victim in the neck. Brown is charged with illegal use of a firearm. Investigators say it’s too early to rule the shooting as accidental.

More freezing temperatures are expected for Louisiana after a slight warming trend yesterday. State Climatologist Barry Keim expects temperatures to drop below freezing again tonight and says Wednesday will be a carbon copy of Tuesday with another hard freeze expected…

Shreveport Police are on the hunt for a home intruder who allegedly shot a three-year-old girl inside her home and then fled. Authorities have identified the victim as Paris Hill. Hill is hospitalized in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head. Anyone with information on this shooting is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

The Hammond Police Department says they are looking for a robber who allegedly stole a large amount of perfume from a retail store. Lt. Vince Giannobile says the incident took place this week at ULTA Beauty in the mall…
