Governor Bobby Jindal has issued a statement urging parents to get their children vaccinated. A debate has erupted over whether parents should have the option on whether they want their child vaccinated. Jindal says science supports the effectiveness of vaccines and they keep children safe from potentially deadly but preventable diseases.

A first-grade school teacher in St. Francisville has been arrested by The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office for allegedly striking a student late last month. Sheriff’s office spokesperson Erin Foster says they met with school board officials regarding teacher complaints about 31 year-old Chanel Lemelle…

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s office says they are investigating the discovery of a body found floating in a body of water just off US 190 outside of Eunice. They reportedly believe it could be a woman who was reported missing from Allen Parish. We’ll have more on this as it develops.

The Internal Revenue Service is reminding low and moderate income tax payers they could be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit — the largest federal government benefit for workers. IRS spokeswoman Jodi Patterson says the EITC is a program designed to give extra money to people who don’t earn very much…:

With cooler temperatures forecast for much of Louisiana this week, will that have an effect on the crawfish crop leading up to Mardi Gras? Sheriff’s spokesperson Erin Foster says they met with school board officials regarding teacher complaints about Lemelle…:

The Alexandria Police Department says a man and woman have been charged with 1st degree murder in the death of a 9 month old child. They say the baby died in March of last year and the case was brought before a grand jury this month who decided to indict the mother and stepfather for murder. Michelle Cotten and Bill Cotten, both 21 years old of Eunice, were booked today and are being held on a million dollars bond each.

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services released the 2015 Louisiana Child Support Most Wanted poster. It features the names and photos of 14 non-custodial parents who owe nearly half a million dollars in past-due child support. Honore, who was in charge of military relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina, now leads a coalition of environmental groups called the Green Army. He says the state has 150 chemical plants and no system in place to monitor what they put into the air…:

Looks like the upward trend in the gasoline price is officially hitting us this week. According to the American Automobile Association the current statewide average price for a gallon of regular is $1.90 which is up 2 cents from yesterday.

Governor Bobby Jindal’s numbers have slipped among Iowa Republican voters according to Bloomberg Politics and the Des Moines Register. When asked who their first choice would be for a presidential candidate, just two-percent said Jindal. But Pollster Ann Selzer says it’s too early to count Jindal out, but he does have a long road ahead of him…:

The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s office says a teacher in the community is behind bars for allegedly being sexually involved with a student. Lt. Tommy Carnline says detectives received a warrant to search the home of 28-year-old Donald Gene Parker III…:

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office says a private healthcare company nurse, who serves the parish jail, is under arrest for conspiring to bring contraband into the facility. 26-year-old Tiffany Sonnier of Jeanerette admitted to the conspiracy to authorities. Sonnier is charged with introducing contraband into a penal institution and possession of Adderall. Officers found the narcotics in her possession during the booking process.

He says the report, from Moody’s Investors Service, pointed to Louisiana’s multiple fiscal challenges including the $330 million dollar revenue forecast drop. But Kennedy while a downgrade is not certain, it’ll be up to the legislature to make some changes next session…

The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a first-grade teacher for allegedly striking a student late last month. Authorities say a witness reported seeing 31-year-old Chanel Lemelle of Baton Rouge, a teacher at Bains Lower Elementary in St. Francisville, berate, kick, and slap a first-grade student. Lemelle surrendered to authorities and was booked on a count of cruelty to juveniles. Lemelle resigned from her position last week.

A new Des Moines Register and Bloomberg Politics poll shows only two percent of respondents chose Governor Bobby Jindal when asked for their first choice in a presidential candidate. Jindal has yet to officially announce his candidacy for president. Pollster Ann Selzer says, if he is going to run, it would probably benefit Jindal to make a few more trips to Iowa to make more of an impression on voters there…

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker lead the poll with 16-percent, followed by Kentucky Senator Rand Paul with 15-percent.

The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s office says 28-year-old Donald Gene Parker III, an educator at a Rapides Parish high school, is behind bars for allegedly having inappropriate sexual relations with a juvenile student. Lt Tommy Carnline says as soon as the person made the complaint to the police department, Parker found out about it somehow…

Anthony Davis makes a triumphant return to the lineup as the Pelicans defeated the Atlanta Hawks 115-100 last night in the Smoothie King Center. Davis scored 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in his return from a groin strain. In fact, a total of 6 Pelicans scored in double figures as they ended the Hawks 19-game winning streak. The Pels have won six of their last seven. Next up for the Pels – a home date Wednesday night with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In college basketball, McNeese State has won two in a row after beating Southeastern Louisiana 73-60. The Cowboys were lead by Desharick Guidry’s 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Lions will look to bounce back this Saturday at Abilene Christian while McNeese will look to make it three in a row when they face Nicholls State.

Speaking of the Colonels, they’ll be coming off of a 67-55 win over UNO.

And Mississippi Valley State sqeeked by Grambling last night 68-65.

LSU shortstop Alex Bregman is on the Baseball America’s preseason All-American first team. Bregman hit .316 with 16 doubles six home runs and 47 RBIs. Bregman hopes to put up better offensive numbers this season, because this year’s baseballs have lower seams on them…
