The LSU Alumni Association is taking a stand against possible massive budget cuts from the state. They’ve launched Tiger Advocates — a grass roots effort with the purpose of lobbying lawmakers to hear the voice of people who love LSU and don’t want to see the university take another budget hit.

A man from south Louisiana is booked with a DUI after he crashed head-on into a school bus this week. Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard says 32-year-old Brandon Vince crossed the center line on a road in Denham Springs and slammed into the bus full of children. He says they believe the man was impaired at the time…:

Vince is also charged with being in possession of drugs and 17 counts of negligent injuring. All of the children are okay but many did have to be evaluated at a hospital.

Bossier Parish Community College makes history as they sign a female player to a baseball scholarship. Sarah Hudek (Hoo-Deck) is a left handed pitcher and is the daughter of MLB All-Star John Hudek. Coach Aaron Vorachek says she will be one of the first girls ever to play baseball at the collegiate level…:

Law enforcement warns parents about a social media app that’s being used for cyberbullying. Yik Yak is an anonymous bulletin board where users can post comments that can be read by anyone within a 10 mile radius. Washington Parish Chief Deputy Mike Haley says some parents have called them reporting their children have been bullied through the Yik Yak app…

Haley says this case has been assigned to a deputy that is a certified cybercrimes investigator. He adds that no charges have been filed at this time. There have been several arrests at several colleges across the country due to threats made through Yik Yak. Haley says parents need to be aware of their children’s social media activities…

Haley says social media is not necessarily bad, but the misuse of it can be a criminal act. He says they will aggressively go after anyone making social media threats. Haley says there are consequences for using social media to bully or make threats…

There’s been some new developments in the head-on collision involving a school bus yesterday morning in Denham Springs. The driver of the other vehicle–32 year-old Brandon Vince of Livingston-has been arrested on numerous charges including DWI, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. More than a dozen students had to be taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

There’s been a significant drop in the number of Louisiana highway fatalities. According to numbers released from the LSU Highway Safety Research Group, there has been a 29 percent decrease in highway related deaths from 2007 to 2013. The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission says that’s good news, but more needs to be done.

Grambling is having a hard time finding a new president and it could be because of the sate’s budget problems. Some applicants may be worried about potential cuts to higher ed in Louisiana. University of Louisiana System President Sandra Woodley understands the concerns of the candidates because what could be coming down is highly unusual…:

Woodley says candidates want more certainty about what solutions will emerge from the state legislature.

The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission says new numbers show traffic fatalities have decreased almost 30 percent from 2007 to 2013. They say in the past 7 years, the number of deaths on Louisiana’s roads went from just under 1000 to about 700 in 2013. Lack of seat belt use and impaired driving continue to be the number one cause of fatal wrecks.

LSU’s 2015 recruiting class is loaded with four and five-star offensive linemen. Tiger Rag Associate Editor James Moran says the Tigers signed two of the best offensive linemen in Texas, Toby Weathersby and Mae Teuhema, plus a couple of other out-of-state prospects that were heavily recruited by other schools…:

A Tuesday afternoon shootout in Denham Springs, involving an off-duty Livingston Parish Sheriff’s deputy, has left one man dead. State Police say while the deputy was at home with his girlfriend, the woman’s ex-husband attempted to enter the house. The two men apparently got into a gunfight where the ex-husband was killed. No other injuries were reported in the incident. Authorities are investigating this case as a domestic violence situation.

The Louisiana SPCA has increased the reward to $3000 for anyone who has information about the person or persons responsible for cutting the head off baby goat last week in a park in Orleans Parish. Spokeswoman Alicia Haefele (Hay-Fa-Lee) says the animals belong to a company called “Y’herd Me” and help maintain shrubbery at the Brechtel Park in Algiers…:

She says one of the teens wasn’t happy about being told to put the goats down then a few days later the baby animal was found with no head. If you have information on this incident please contact authorities.

They say 23-year-old Jamie Jackson was babysitting the 4-year-old when she allegedly left the child alone while she brought her nephew to school and had coffee with her aunt. The child was found about a mile and a half from Jackson’s home on Highway 385. Jackson is charged with cruelty to a juvenile.
