Lafayette Police say they have arrested the man suspected in a fatal shooting that occurred over the weekend. They say 52-year-old Jerry Ronald Seals of Lafayette fatally shot 44-year-old James Allen Orgeron in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant. It is reported that Seals and Orgeron had been involved with a long running feud. Seals is charged with second degree murder.

It appears the peak of the flu season is behind us; however, health officials say it’s not time to let our guard down, just yet. Doctor Frank Welch, with the state department of health and hospitals, estimates over half a million Louisiana residents were hit with the flu bug during this influenza season. He says the elderly have been hit especially hard by the flu….

Baton Rouge Police have identified the body found near the LSU campus Saturday. Although the person’s name has not been released, they say the remains were that of a male in his 50s. Authorities do not suspect foul play in the man’s death and believe the man died of either natural causes or by suicide.

Facebook’s new Legacy Contact feature allows users to designate a friend or family member to oversee their account upon their death. However, Jensen Moore, with LSU’s Manship School of Mass Communication says there are limitations on what your Legacy Contact can do to your page after you die…

The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office is looking into who is creating elaborate websites for schools claiming to be in the parish, but actually don’t exist. Lt. Bill Davis says they are working with the Louisiana Department of Education to see if the people behind the sites are trying to defraud the federal government or the state via grant dollars…

LSU did not have any lingering effects from its tough loss to top ranked Kentucky on Tuesday as they jumped on Tennessee and never looked back, beating the Vols 73-55. The Tigers hit seven 3-pointers in the 1st half and led by 27 at halftime. Jordan Mickey lead the Tigers with 20 points and 13 rebounds. LSU improves to 7-5 in the SEC heading into Tuesday night’s road game against Texas A&M.

In Monroe, ULM won its 6th in a row as they defeated Appalachian State 69-58. Tylor Ongwae had 14 points, seven rebounds and seven assists to lead the way for the Warhawks. With the win, ULM remains in first place in the Sun Belt.

In Ruston, Louisiana Tech won its 20th game of the season the Bulldogs dribbled past Florida International 75-42. It’s the third straight season Louisiana Tech has reached 20 wins and they remain in sole possession of first place in Conference USA with five league games to go.

And in the Southland, Northwestern State edged McNeese 75-72 and Southeastern upended Nicholls 65-59.

The number 2 ranked LSU baseball team overcame four errors to complete a sweep of the Kansas Jayhawks with a 7-4 win Sunday at Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers batted around in the 6th inning and scored four runs to take the lead for the first time and the bullpen shut down the Jayhawks in the final three innings. LSU right fielder Mark Laird had three hits, scored three times and made two nice grabs in the outfield.

Southeastern Louisiana defeated Louisiana Tech 7-1 to complete a sweep of the Bulldogs in Hammond. Senior first baseman Kevin Carr drove in four runs and Denham Springs native Kyle Cedotal threw seven innings, allowing just one run for the win.

In Lake Charles, McNeese State won three in a row over Arkansas-Pine Bluff as the Cowboys won 7-1. Junior catcher Cameron Toole went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Sophomore transfer Trent Fontenot pitched six innings and allowed just one run for the victory.

Elsewhere, Nicholls took two of three from Stony Brook. The Ragin Cajuns lost two of three to Texas-San Antonio. And Northwestern State went 1-and-3 in a four-game series against Troy.

A Walker man is under arrest, accused of secretly recording himself having sex with his girlfriend, then posting it on social media after the couple broke up. Thirty-year-old Robert Howard reportedly had an argument with his girlfriend, when she told him to leave her apartment. Shortly after, she noticed that Howard posted to sex video to Facebook. Howard was arrested on charges of video voyeurism.

Governor Bobby Jindal announced today that Louisiana will not receive a downgrade in its credit rating from Moody’s Investors Service which would mean the state would have to pay higher interest rates. Jindal says they appreciate Moody affirming that the state’s credit rating won’t go down which has come as a result of acting quickly and responsibly when our state has faced revenue problems.

The Louisiana Office of Alcohol Tobacco Control says they’ve conducted over 600 alcohol and tobacco compliance checks across the state since February 2nd. ATC Commissioner Troy Hebert says of the businesses checked, 83 sold alcohol and/or tobacco to underage operatives which is about a 13% non-compliance rate…:

He says agents will continue to work throughout the Mardi Gras weekend to make sure illegal sales of alcohol and tobacco do not dampen the Carnival season.

The shooting at the parade last night in New Orleans claimed the lives of two people. One died last night and the other this morning. Under arrest is 19-year-old John Hicks who is charged with two counts of second degree murder according to the New Orleans Police Department.

The Department of Agriculture has received mid-year cuts equivalent to $2.6 million dollars and the Tourism Department has taken a $3.6 million hit, while the governor’s office has proposed a $10,000 cut to its budget.

The Louisiana Alcohol Tobacco and Control said agents did more than 600 compliance checks since Feb. 2. They say 83 businesses were caught selling alcohol or tobacco to people who are underage — and there’s 5 days to go.

The second victim in the New Orleans parade shooting last night died this morning. NOPD says they’ve arrested 19-year-old John Hicks in connection with the crime. Superintendent Michael Harrison says this situation is frustrating, but NOPD remains committed to keeping revelers safe during Mardi Gras…:
