Get ready for a big change in the weather. State climatologist Barry Keim says high temperatures today will be in the 70s and tomorrow they’ll be back in the 30s and 40s as a result of a strong cold front….

State Treasurer John Kennedy sees pros and cons to Governor Bobby Jindal’s budget proposal. The governor has proposed scaling back certain tax credits and cut spending in other areas to address a $1.6 billion revenue shortfall. Kennedy says some of the proposed reductions in spending make sense, especially in the area of consulting contracts…

Kennedy says the proposed budget looks to reduce the 60-percent of the deficit by repealing tax credits and 40-percent by reducing spending. However, Kennedy does question the proposal of closing all health clinics in New Orleans, which will effect about 57,000 people…

Kennedy spoke about the budget on Louisiana Radio Network’s Jim Engster show. He says the budget’s biggest revenue increase comes with the repeal of the inventory tax credit, which would add about $525 million dollars to the state’s coffers. Kennedy says he’s not sure this was chosen wisely…

The Energy Department says there is a major increase in crude oil and the US is running out of room to store it. David Dismukes, the director for the Center for Energy Studies at LSU, says refineries are in a transition period right now but it won’t last long..:

Agents with the state office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control say a Ruston woman is under arrest accused of selling booze out of her personal residence. ATC Commissioner Troy Hebert says 21-year-old Bryanna Jackson was taking money for cocktails at her apartment…:

Hebert says undercover agents went in one evening and were able to purchase two mixed drinks from the suspect. He says they discovered the illegal activity was going on from ads the woman was posting online…:

Jackson was booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center and charged with operating without a local or state high content permit. A man in central Louisiana was arrested for apparently operating a bar out of his house last week and Hebert says these illegal actions are not necessary…:

The LSU men’s basketball team plays its final home game of the year tonight as they host the Tennessee Volunteers at six pm in the Maravich Center. These two teams met in Knoxville on Valentine’s Day and it was all LSU as they won by 18 points. LSU forward Jarell Martin expects a tougher game this time around

The Governor’s Office of Homeland security and Emergency Preparedness continues to monitor another round of dangerous winter weather that should be entering the state by Thursday. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for North Louisiana as a very strong cold front will combine with an upper level system that could produce sleet, and possible snow with ice.

The state tax refunds are rolling out after a delay from the Department of Revenue to address some fraud concerns. The refunds actually began being issued on Friday, and LDR spokesperson Kizzy Payton says about 244,000 have been processed. But, that’s just the beginning…

East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office are investigating a fatal shooting just past 10 am that happened on Summer Breeze Drive just off Burbank Tuesday morning. One of the intruders was shot by the homeowner. That investigation is on-going.

The other suspect fled, and they arrested two people inside the home because they found illegal drugs inside.

There was another fatal house fire today; this time in Opelousas killing a woman. State Fire Marshall Butch Browning says 73 year-old Mary Ann Sam was living alone in the wood frame home, and someone who was driving by around 4 am this morning, saw the fire and called in. He says the investigation is continuing.

Such a move would save the state an estimated $380 million to help the budget crisis. But LABI Vice President, Jim Patterson, says the vast majority of states do not have inventory taxes, so if the refund went away…

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Captain Dawn Foret says they began an investigation and were able to track the email address that determined both threats came from the same student at the school…

Shreveport Police Department is investigating a overnight home invasion, where one of the suspects was shot and killed. Corporal Marcus Hines says they believe two men wearing masks, and entered the home with guns. Further evidence indicated there may have been illegal drugs present…

The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security is monitoring another round of possible dangerous winter weather conditions across mostly north Louisiana Wednesday night. The National Weather Service says we could see sleet in these areas, icy roads and possible snow as frozen temperatures are expected after and during some of the rain that’s moving through.

The Shreveport Police Department is looking for a second suspect in a deadly home invasion. Corporal Marcus Hines says the other suspect was shot by the homeowner. He says they blieve the two men entered the home wearing masks and one of them was armed with a semi-automatic rifle…:

Hines says they think the motive for the shooting was drug related. The case remains under investigation.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s office says a 14-year-old student from HL Bourgeois High is under arrest accused of threatening to blow up the school two times. They say administrators got an email Monday morning which said a bomb had been placed in the school and was going to go off during the day. The same thing happened last Tuesday. The emails were traced to the teen juvenile who was charged with two counts of false communication of a bomb threat.

The Louisiana Association of Business and Industry plans to fight Governor Bobby Jindal’s proposal to repeal the inventory tax credit. Such a move would save the state an estimated $380 million which could be used for health care and higher education. But LABI Vice President, Jim Patterson, says a repeal of this tax credit would be devastating to business across the state…:

Patterson says businesses could decide to shift inventories to states that do not have such a tax and those warehouse jobs would be lost.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s office says they are investigating a shooting which left an intruder dead apparently at the hands of the owner of a home he was breaking into. Detectives believe a male and female were trying to break into the home earlier this morning when the man was shot and killed.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says they are working an investigation into a fire which claimed the life of a 73-year-old woman last night in Opelousas. Fire Marshal Butch Browning says St. Landry Fire District 3 firefighters responded to a wood frame dwelling around 4am which they found fully engulfed in flames. He says the 73 year old victim was also located…:

They are still working to determine the cause of the blaze.

The price of gas keeps going up. We’re up another penny from the day before to $2.22 which is almost a dime more than this time last week.

The Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s office says 4 more arrests have been made in connection with the death of a 73-year-old Lake Arthur man. They say the latest charges come after an investigation revealing the four additional suspects aided 18-year-old Roderick Cawthorne and 26-year-old Brett Hebert in the murder of Charles Talen.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office says a 14-year-old student from H.L. Bourgeois High in Gray is under arrest accused of calling in 2 bomb threats to the school. Captain Dawn Foret says last Tuesday and yesterday there were two separate bomb threats they were emailed to the school’s principal…:

She says they traced the emails to the teen who admitted what he’d done. The suspect is charged with two coutns of False Communication of a Bomb Threat.

North Louisiana could be in for another winter weather event tomorrow night into Thursday. Meteorologist Davyon Hill with the National Weather Service in Shreveport says once again traffic conditions could be affected:

He says the line of the potential sleet Wednesday night stretches from Natchitoches to Monroe and areas west of that. Central Louisiana could be in for freezing rain.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is working a fatal overnight fire in Opelousas. They say once fire fighters arrived the residence was completely engulfed in flames and later the 63-year-old female victim was located. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

The Shreveport Police Department says they are looking for a suspect following an overnight fatal home invasion attempt which claimed the life of the second robber apparently at the hands of the owner of the residence. Corporal Marcus Hines says officers were called to a home after a reported home invasion was called in around 1am…:

Hines says they believe drugs were the motive for the attempted robbery but the case remains a very active one as they search for the other suspect who got away.

The state Department of Revenue announces that tax refunds are now being issued. LDR said that it would not process refunds until March 2 but they actually began last Friday. Spokeswoman Kizzie Payton says the delay was due to the increase in fraudulent tax returns across the nation…:

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for north Louisiana.

The Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Department announce that four more arrests have been made in connection with the death of Charles Talen, Sr. Talen was found dead in his Lake Arthur home last month after his car had been stolen. Authorities say Carlos Daniels, Vaughn Robinson, Monique Berry, and Dawn Fontenot were arrested for helping Brett Hebert and Roderick Cawthorne before and after the crimes. Hebert and Cawthorne were arrested for first degree murder earlier this week.

Governor Jindal’s proposed budget is about 200-million dollars short of what’s needed to fully fund the state’s public colleges and universities, according to Higher Education Commissioner Joe Rallo. He says higher education leaders are looking at various options to improve their funding situation and one idea is to privatize some public universities…

The state’s budget problems have raised concerns that one possible solution is to close college campuses.

A new study suggests adults 63 and older who sleep more than eight hours a day, face a greater risk of having a stroke. Dr. Caroline Barton with LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine says the study also noted that if someone had a significant change in their sleeping habits it was a bad sign…

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 14-year-old student at H.L Bourgeois High School in Gray for allegedly making a bomb threat. Authorities say students were evacuated Monday after school officials received an e-mail concerning a bomb inside the school. They say the student confessed and admitted to sending a similar threat last week. The juvenile is charged with two counts of false communication of a bomb threat.
