A winter storm warming is in effect for parishes north of I-20 from this evening through tomorrow morning. Gary Chatelain with the National Weather Service in Shreveport says a winter weather advisory is also in effect along and south of I-20. He says those areas won’t be hit as hard as northern parishes…:

The mother of Victor White III’s child has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in federal court against Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal and a deputy in White’s death. White died from a gunshot wound while handcuffed in the backseat of the deputy’s squad car. Monroe attorney, Carol Powell Lexing, who represents White’s family, says reason for the lawsuit is simple…:

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s office says a man is dead after officers responded to reports that the suspect was shooting a gun into the air in the middle of the street. Captain Dawn Foret says 49-year-old Troy Brady may have been firing shots into the air while running down the road and that’s where cops found them…:

She says Brady later died at a hospital and there were no obvious signs of trauma so an autopsy has been ordered.

Lots of people showed up to support Fort Polk to Army officials yesterday in Vernon Parish. Personnel reductions are being considered at about 30 bases across the country. Fort Polk Progress Chairman Michael Reese says they believe the visitors from the military heard loud and clear that the entire state of Louisiana does not support yet another troop reduction at Fort Polk…:

As officials with the US Army visited the Leesville area last night to listen to the concerns of folks in the community surrounding reductions to the Vernon Parish base, people once again lined the streets in support of keeping things as is. Fort Polk Progress Chairman Michael Reese says the church venue was filled as they made the presentation to the military…:

The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s office says a 25-year-old man from Crowley is charged with second degree murder after allegedly running over and killing a teenager with his vehicle shortly before midnight. They say Landricy Robinson allegedly tried to get away from a fight which is when he hit 16-year-old Antoinette Rochon of Rayne who died as a result.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for parishes north of I-20, ahead of a strong cold front that will move through the state this evening. Gary Chatelain, with the National Weather Service in Shreveport, says rain is forecast for the area today and that could become a problem as that front descends across north Louisiana…:

The Winter Storm Warning is in effect through tomorrow morning. Chatelain says a Winter Weather Advisory is also in effect along and south of I-20. He adds this event should not be as bad as we saw last month.

Governor Bobby Jindal will be in Livingston Parish this afternoon. A release from his office indicates the Governor will be making an economic development announcement at 2pm at the Livingston Courthouse.

Foret says 49-year-old Troy Brady was found by cops laying in the street with a gun and after he was detained he became unresposive and later died. An autopsy has been ordered to determine cause of death.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s office says they are investigating a single vehicle crash in Mooringsport which happened this morning around 2:30am. They say the vehicle ran off the road and flipped onto its roof before slamming into a patch of trees. The driver died at the scene. He is not being identified at this time.

The LSU men’s basketball team seeks its fourth straight victory tonight as the Tigers host Tennessee. The Volunteers have lost five in a row, but LSU guard Keith Hornsby says despite Tennessee’s struggles they can’t look past them…

LSU is 10-and-6 in the SEC and hoping to win its last two regular season games so that they can lock up a top four seed in the SEC Tournament, which means they would receive a double bye.

The Pelicans are one game back of Oklahoma City for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference heading into tonight’s home game against the Detroit Pistons. There’s a chance Anthony Davis will play tonight for the Pels as he’s listed as questionable with a shoulder injury. The Thunder host Philadelphia tonight at 7:00, a game they will likely win, so New Orleans also needs to get a victory.

The LSU baseball team improved to 11-and-1 on the season last night with an eight to one victory over Stephen F Austin. Danny Zardon hit his second home run of the season and Kyle Bouman struck out a career-high six hitters. LSU will host Grambling State this afternoon.

In other action today….the Ragin Cajuns host Northwestern State. U-L Lafayette is coming off a series victory over Alabama, while the Demons have won four in a row, including a seven to nothing victory over ULM last night.

Southeastern Louisiana hosts Southern. The Lions have won four in a row as well, as they defeated Alcorn State 13 to 3 last night. Southeastern’s Kyle Keller struck out eight to get the win.

Louisiana Tech was scheduled to be at Arkansas tonight, but that game has been cancelled because of the weather.

So the attention turns to the Bulldogs basketball game tomorrow night against Southern Miss. A win for Tech and they win an outright Conference USA Championship.

ULM is also home tomorrow as they host Georgia State in a battle for first place in the Sun Belt.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s office says they received reports early this morning about a man walking in the road in Schriever shooting his gun into the air. When deputies arrived they discovered 49-year-old Troy Brady sitting in the street with a shotgun. He became unresponsive after detainment and later died at a hospital. The case is under investigation.

Hebert says the same thing happened with a guy in Campti last week running a bar out of his home..:

A change in weather is coming for Louisiana. A strong cold front will move through the state today, into tonight, dropping overnight lows into the 20s and 30s statewide. Tomorrow, afternoon highs will only reach into the 30s and 40s. This front also has the potential to produce another round of winter precipitation. Portions of north Louisiana are under a Winter Storm Warning through tomorrow morning.

According to the Energy Department there is a major increase in crude oil and the US is running out of room to store it. Some say this could mean another huge drop in gas prices in Louisiana. Director for the Center for Energy Studies at LSU, David Dismukes, says refineries and consumers will be the main beneficiaries so it may end up not having such a major effect on the economy in Louisiana…

The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Department has arrested a Pitkin man accused of inappropriate sexual contact with a 10-year-old. Authorities say, during a forensic interview, the female victim indicated that 37-year-old Robert Fortenberry touched her in an inappropriate manner. Detectives also determined that a prior incident had occurred between the two. Fortenberry was booked into the Vernon Parish Jail on one count of oral sexual battery and one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile.

State Treasurer John Kennedy spoke about Governor Bobby Jindal’s budget proposal on Louisiana Radio Network’s Jim Engster show. He says the budget’s biggest revenue increase comes with the repeal of the inventory tax credit, which would add about $525 million dollars to the state’s coffers. Kennedy says he’s not sure this was chosen wisely…

The governor has proposed scaling back certain tax credits and cut spending in other areas to address a $1.6 billion revenue shortfall. Kennedy does question the proposal of closing all health clinics in New Orleans, which will effect about 57,000 people…

The number seven LSU Baseball team blew out Stephen F. Austin last night 8-1 at Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers’ Kyle Bouman struck out a career-high seven in picking up win. LSU’s Danny Zardon had two hits, including a 400 ft. plus solo home run. The Tigers have now won eight in a row to improve to 11-1. LSU hosts Grambling this afternoon at 3PM.

25th ranked Tulane shutout Nicholls State 5-0. The Green Wave’s Patrick Duester gets his second win of the season after pitching six shutout innings and striking out seven. Second baseman Jake Willsey drove in two runs as Tulane improves to 11-2 on the season.

Northwestern State rolled past ULM 7-0. Demons’ sophomore Evan Tidwell threw a complete game two hit shutout. Second baseman David Fry cracked a three-run double to help Northwestern to even up their record at 6-6.

McNeese State beat Sam Houston State five to two. Junior Ethan Stremmel picked up the win for the Cowboys while left fielder Lewis Guilbeau drove in two runs.

Southeastern Louisiana thumped Alcorn State 13 to 3. Outfielder Ryan Byers drove in three runs and Senior Kyle Keller pitched six shutout innings for the Lions.

The LSU men’s basketball team plays its final home game of the year tonight as they host the Tennessee Volunteers at six pm in the Maravich Center. These two teams met in Knoxville on Valentine’s Day and it was all LSU as they won by 18 points. LSU forward Jarell Martin expects a tougher game this time around…

The Volunteers bring a five-game losing streak to Baton Rouge.

The Pelicans look to get back to their winning ways tonight when they host the Detroit Pistons. Dallas broke the Pels five game winning streak Monday night and the Pistons come into tonight’s game looking to avoid a fourth straight defeat. Anthony Davis is listed as questionable for tonight’s game. Tipoff is scheduled for 7PM.

And at the Girls Top 28 tournament in Lake Charles…Summerfield and Pleasant Hill have advanced to the Class C title game. North Central and Vermilion Catholic have reached the Class 1-A title.
