The New Orleans Police Department says they’ve arrested a suspect in the killing of a Dominos pizza delivery driver. They say 24-year-old Michael Portis is believed to be responsible for the fatal shooting of Michael Price who was a married father of three. There was a $13,000 reward being offered in the case.

A former Elton High School teacher and basketball coach has pleaded guilty to having inappropriate sexual relationships with students. 35-year-old Justin Fruge (froo-JHAY’) pleaded guilty to one count of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Jeff Davis Parish District Attorney Michael Cassidy says Fruge faces up to ten years in prison…:

Sentencing is scheduled for July 20.

The prison population in Louisiana is going down for the first time in years. The Department of Corrections says the number returning to prison after already having served time is 1000 less annually than it was three years ago.

The governor is expected to make an official announcement following this year’s legislative session.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s office says a 9-year-old child who was sleeping was injured in an overnight drive by shooting in Donaldsonville. They say someone drove by the residence and opened fire where the child was in bed. The injuries are not considered life threatening. The investigation is ongoing.

The prison population in Louisiana is going down for the first time in years. Secretary of Corrections Jimmy LeBlanc told the House Appropriations Committee that from 2006-2009 the state added about 1200 new prisoners a year. He says if that would have continued, there would have been about 44,000 inmates at the end of 2014 instead of closing the year with about 38,000 prisoners…:

LeBlanc says since 2012, Louisiana has seen a drop of almost 3000 inmates.

The Investigation Discovery show Web of Lies tonight will feature of the story of the murder of 12-year-old Justin Bloxom who was killed by death row inmate Brian Horn. In happened in 2010 in Stonewall, when the convicted sex offender lured Bloxom to his death with fake text messages pretending to be a girl from school. The DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s office supports the program airing tonight at 9.

A lawmaker from Mandeville is introducing a bill for the upcoming session that he says would help control the cost of the TOPS scholarship program. Senator Jack Donhue’s proposal would keep a student’s award the same throughout their college career even if tuition goes up…:

State Police say a hit and run crash in Terrebonne Parish has claimed the life of a Houma man. Authorities say 20-year-old Jonathan Young was riding his bicycle when he was hit by a truck. They say witnesses observed the driver of the truck get out of his vehicle, moved the bike from underneath his truck, and then left the scene. Young was taken to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. State Police say the truck has been found, but the search for the driver continues.

The four announced candidates for governor appeared at a lunchtime forum that was put together by Louisiana’s small business community and spoke about the state’s $1.6 billion budget deficit. Republican Senator David Vitter expressed his strong opposition to Governor Jindal’s plan to scale back the state’s inventory tax credit as a way to raise revenues for state government…

Third ranked LSU got past UL-Lafayette 8-6 in the annual Wally Pontiff Jr. Classic at Zephyr Field. Shortstop Alex Bregman lead the way for the Tigers going three for three with a home run, triple, and double. Righ-hander Russell Reynolds earned the win for LSU, while Connor Toups was charged with the loss for the Cajuns. The Tigers improve to 24-5 as they get ready for an SEC series against Alabama that begins Thursday. The Ragin Cajuns are now 15-11 and will host a weekend series against Georgia Southern.

In the Southland Conference, McNeese State falls to Southern 5-4. The Jaguars have now won four straight. The Cowboys will host UNO in a three game conference series beginning tomorrow night.

Speaking of the Privateers, they’ll come into that series off of a win as they defeated Loyola-New Orleans 8-2.

And Nicholls State crushed Alcorn State 14-3. This is the Colonels 24th straight win over the Braves. Nicholls gets ready to host Incarnate Word in a three game series that gets underway Thursday night.

A wild one in Grambling last night as the Tigers and Louisiana Tech combined for 31 hits and 29 runs as the Bulldogs picked up the win 17-12. Freshman designated hitter Brent Diaz lead Tech at the plate going three for five with a grand slam, triple, and a total of seven RBIs. The Bulldogs are 11-13 and begin a six game home stand tonight when ULM comes to Ruston.

LSU Forward Jordan Mickey announces he’s foregoing his final two years of eligibility and will enter his name in the 2015 NBA draft. Mickey was a first-team All-SEC selection this past season as he averaged 15 points, almost ten rebounds and 3.64 blocks per game, which led the nation.

Louisiana Tech point guard Speedy Smith was named an honorable mention on the Associated Press’ All-American team. Smith had 267 assists this past season, the most by any player in Division One basketball.

Game two of the College Basketball Invitational championship series is tonight in Monroe. ULM lost game one to Loyola of Chicago, 65 to 58. The Warhawks need to win to force a deciding game three on Friday.

Director Michael Henderson says only 39 percent of Louisianians surveyed say they support Common Core, but there seemed to be some uncertainty about who developed the curriculum….
