The Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Pineville man after he broke into a home and fell asleep. Authorities say when the homeowner arrived, they found the lock to the door broken, an axe handle lying nearby, and someone sleeping on their couch. When officers arrived they found 25-year-old Trenton Malone still alseep on the sofa with a glass pipe beside him. Malone is charged with unauthorized entry into an inhabited dwelling, simple damage to property, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to an LSU Public Policy Polling survey done for the state’s film industry, 80% of Louisianians agree it’s good for the economy to have movies made here. Baton Rouge’s Celtic Studios Executive Director Patrick Mulhearn says Louisiana has been nicknamed Hollywood South and he believes people like that…

State Police has shared a heartwarming story about their rescue of an injured dog who was spotted in a swamp under I-10 near I-55 in LaPlace. Trooper Melissa Matey says Captain Brandon with Cajun Pride Swamp Tours offered to help out but realized that it wasn’t possible to get a boat to the dog’s location. She says the swamp tour guide then walked about a half a mile through the swamp to get to the animal…

The Union Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Downsville woman and her nephew after a fight at a family gathering. Authorities say 24-year-old Johnny Franks, Jr. accused his uncle of disrespecting him by asking him to leave a hamburger for another guest and threw several objects at him. When officers arrived, 68-year-old Gloria Cashion fought with and drove her car toward them. Franks is charged with aggravated battery. Cashion is charged with attempted assault on the deputies and resisting arrest.

The Pelicans led by 11 after the first quarter, but it wasn’t enough as Golden State came back to secure a 97-87 win in game 2 of this best of seven playoff series. Klay Thompson’s 26 points and Stephen Curry’s 22 set the pace for the Warriors. Anthony Davis led the Pels with 26 points and 10 rebounds. An already very good basketball recruiting class for LSU gets better with the addition of Mr. Louisiana Basketball, Brandon Sampson. The MVP in Class One-A this past season has signed his national letter of intent to play at LSU. Tiger Rag Editor Cody Worsham says it’s a big pick-up for Coach Johnny Jones…

Sampson averaged nearly 16 points a game as he led Madison Prep High School to the Class One-A Championship.

LSU is ranked number one in all six college baseball polls that were released yesterday. The Tigers swept a doubleheader from Georgia on Saturday in a rain-shortened series. They host Tulane tonight and then Texas A-and-M comes to Baton Rouge for a three-game series that begins Thursday.

In other college baseball action today, Louisiana Tech is on the road to take on Stephen F. Austin. Nicholls hosts Grambling. McNeese State welcomes Houston to Cowboy Diamond. UL-Lafayette travels to Hammond to face Southeastern Louisiana. And ULM is in Hattiesburg to take on Southern Miss.

In a Top 25 college softball matchup, Number 24 Texas A&M upset Number 3 LSU 5-2 last night at Tiger Park. A three-run homer in the top of the seventh was the difference for the Aggies. This is the Tigers first home loss of the season as they fall to 41-6 on the season. LSU looks to bounce back this weekend when they travel to Missouri for a three-game conference series this weekend.

The Senate Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Committee was packed Monday with people waiting to hear what would happen with a bill that would repeal Louisiana’s inventory tax. It’s a critical piece of legislation when it comes to balancing the state’s budget in the face of a one-point-six billion dollar deficit. But the bill’s author, Benton Senator Robert Adley, decided not to move forward, because there are questions over the exact fiscal impact of his measure…:

The move by Adley resulted in the House Ways and Means committee re-adjusting it’s agenda for Tuesday as the panel removed all bills that are considered revenue generating and that includes a bill to raise the state’s cigarette tax and a measure that would put an end to the film tax credit program in 2019.

The state’s Democrats versus Republicans flag football game in Tiger Stadium Sunday raised over $20,000 for the families of the Louisiana National Guardsmen who were killed in the Black Hawk helicopter crash.

An effort to have an anti-Common Core bill bypass the House Education committee for a hearing by the full House was defeated Monday. Lake Charles Representative Brett Geymann made a motion to move House Bill 373 directly to the House floor, but members of the House Education Committee opposed the effort. St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne (chahm-pine) reports today that the condition of Cpl. Burt Hazeltine (tine like dine) is improving.
