A bill by Shreveport Representative Barbara Norton that that would provide equal pay for women gets a hearing today in the House Labor Committee. Some critics of Norton’s legislation say that this measure would duplicate existing federal law. Norton says laws regarding equal pay for women may be on the books, but they are not being enforced…

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a teacher from Christian Life Academy for allegedly having sex with a student two years ago. Spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks says when they brought 27-year-old Amber Anderson in for questioning, she admitted to the relationship. HIcks says the mother did not know what the teacher was doing with her son at the time…:

Anderson is charged with felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

The so-called revenge porn bill advanced from the House Criminal Justice Committee Tuesday without objection. Author, Kenner Representative Julie Stokes, says there are already laws about this for minors but she thinks something needs to be put in place for young adults…

The Big Easy’s new smoke free ordinance went into effect at midnight and smoking is no longer permitted in bars, casinos and most public places in New Orleans. Founding Dean of LSU Health New Orleans School of Public Health, Doctor Elizabeth Fontham, says a study found that long-term exposure to secondhand cigarette smoke could increase a women’s risk of lung cancer as high as 86-percent…

LSU pitchers gave up only one hit last night as the number one ranked Tigers blanked in-state rival Tulane 6-0. Freshman right-hander Austin Bain earned his first win for LSU last night while Patrick Duester was charged with the loss for the Green Wave. The Bayou Bengals now turn their focus to number two ranked Texas A&M who come to Baton Rouge for a three game series beginning Thursday night.

Louisiana Tech scored five first inning runs while cruising past Stephen F. Austin 9-2. The Bulldogs head to Monroe to take on rival ULM tonight at 6PM.

The Warhawks are looking to bounce back after losing to Southern Miss yesterday 9-3.

The 22nd ranked Houston Cougars squeaked by McNeese 5-4. The Cowboys now get ready for a three-game Southland Conference series against Nicholls which gets underway Friday night.

The Colonels will come into that series having won their last four after defeating Grambling 4-2.

And UL-Lafayette blew past Southeastern 7-2. The Ragin Cajuns now turn their attention to their weekend series against Texas-Arlington. The Lions look to bounce back when they take on Houston Baptist.

The House Criminal Justice Committee advanced the so-called revenge porn bill Tuesday without objection. The legislation by Kenner Representative Julie Stokes would make it illegal for someone 17 and older to share a sexual picture of a person without their consent, usually online. She says the measure would make it a crime to cause someone harm or emotional distress in this manner…:

A teacher from Christian Life Academy in Baton Rouge has been arrested and charged with having an alleged sexual relationship with a 15 year-old boy in 2013. East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Detectives arrested 27 year-old Amber Anderson and charged her with Felony Carnal Knowledge Of A Juvenile. The victim told detectives the two of them also exchanged sexually explicit text messages.

A bicyclist in Ouachita Parish is dead following a crash on Highway 165 just south of Monroe about 1:30 am this morning. State Police say that 36 year-old Mashaylin Green tried to cross the road and was hit by a car driven by 22 year-old Tommy Coleman. Coleman was cited for speeding, and no license, or plate.

Police in Walker say a man accused of raping a woman at knifepoint late Sunday night at a Livingston Parish laundromat has been arrested. Blue Bell Ice Cream announces every single one of their products is being recalled. Stores are pulling everything from the shelves today because of the threat of listeria bacteria. State Epidemiologist Dr. Raoult Ratard says if you have any Blue Bell ice cream in your fridge, throw it away and do not eat it. He says the people most at risk of getting an infection caused by listeria are those with low immune systems…:

The Blue Bell recall includes all of its ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and other frozen treats.

The reward for information leading to the arrest of the people responsible for cutting the head off a goat with a machete and filming it is now $14,000. Hammond says they got the video from a New Orleans University police officer, but they aren’t sure where the incident actually took place.

The Union Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Downsville woman and her nephew after a fight at a family gathering. Authorities say 24-year-old Johnny Franks, Jr. accused his uncle of disrespecting him by asking him to leave a hamburger for another guest and threw several objects at him. When officers arrived, 68-year-old Gloria Cashion fought with and drove her car toward them. Franks is charged with aggravated battery. Cashion is charged with attempted assault on the deputies and resisting arrest.

Mourners are saying goodbye to R&B singer Percy Sledge at a church in Baker today. Sledge passed at his Baton Rouge home last week. The Women a Man Loves a Woman Singer’s son, Howell Sledge, is one of the many who are paying tribute today. The funeral service is streaming online at percysledge.org.
