The flood waters from the Red River have receded somewhat, but local officials say the battle is still not over in some Shreveport and Bossier neighborhoods. Sandbags are in place, but some of those have begun to leak. The water is down about a foot, but it’s still above flood stage right now.

The infant died in the care of a Baton Rouge day care center operator, who had her license revoked.

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals continued the blockage of the release of Albert Woodfox, until the appeal from Attorney General Buddy Caldwell is considered further. The case has an “expedited” status, which means his release could happen in a few weeks.

Meanwhile, Celtic Studios’ Executive Director Patrick Mulhearn says they hope Governor Bobby Jindal vetoes the legislation that places a 180-million dollar cap on the film industry tax credit, which he says will slow the industry growth. Mulhearn also says the legislation also creates confusion on which credits the state will honor….

It now appears that one of the Louisiana Guardsmen killed in a training mission helicopter crash off the coast of Florida, will be allowed to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Secretary of the Army John McHugh says he approved the exception to the burial of 26 year-old Thomas Florich, who was originally denied because he was officially listed as inactive.

The Army has granted an exception that will allow Louisiana National Guard Staff Sgt. Thomas Florich to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Florich was killed in a helicopter crash off the coast of Florida in March, along with ten other servicemen. The Army originally denied the family’s request for burial at Arlington because Florich was not listed as “active duty” at the time of the crash. Secretary of the Army John McHugh says there was compelling justification to grant the exception.

The Red River is predicted to crest at 38 feet late Sunday night or early Monday morning. Jonathan Brazzell, with the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, says there are several roads closed due to flooding in the area and more could be closed as the crest nears. He says it will take a while for the water to drain out…

Lawmakers approved the SAVE tax credit, which is needed to prevent Governor Bobby Jindal from vetoing revenue generating bills, in the final hours of the legislative session. During the debate of the SAVE credit, there was plenty of criticism of the legislation directed towards Jindal. But the governor doesn’t take any of those remarks personally…

State lawmakers have voted to increase the state’s cigarette tax by 50-cents. If not vetoed, the tax will go to 86-cents beginning July first. Revenue raised from the higher cigarette tax will go towards Medicaid funding. Shreveport Representative Barbara Norton was one of the lawmakers who voted in favor of the tax increase ….

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office says a Calcasieu Correctional Center trusty was captured after walking away from a work detail yesterday in Lake Charles. They say 20-year-old Alfonso Ross was on litter detail when he decided to walk away. Ross was found less than an hour later hiding in a parking garage. He now faces an additional charge of simple escape.
