Bossier Parish officials say water is receding on the Red River and FEMA assessment teams are in the area today to evaluate the extent of the flood damage. Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lt. Bill Davis says the water on the Red is receding at a pretty rapid pace…:

GOHSEP says federal authorities are trying to determine if the damage is bad enough to qualify for a Presidential Disaster Declaration required to trigger grants.

LSU takes on Cal State Fullerton in the College World Series this afternoon at 2pm. Freshman pitcher Alex Lagne will start on the mound for the Tigers and hopes to turn around the luck after the disastrous game on Sunday in Omaha. Today’s match-up is win or go home. You can watch it on ESPN2.

The Bourbon Street burlesque performer made infamous for her love affair with Louisiana Governor Earl Long, has died at the age of 83. Blaze Starr, whose birth name was Fannie Bell Fleming, wrote a memoir about her time with Long that was made into a movie Blaze. She’d reportedly been having heart issues over the past few years.

Far western Louisiana could feel some residual effects from the storm but is not part of the warning area and is expected to be no threat to the state.

Blaze Starr, the Bourbon Street stripper who gained fame in 1959 when she had an affair with Governor Earl K. Long, died Monday at her home in West Virginia. Starr, whose birth name was Fannie Bell Fleming, wrote a memoir about her time with Long that was made into the movie “Blaze”, starring Lolita Davidovich and Paul Newman. It’s reported that Starr experienced heart issues in the past few years. She was 83-years-old.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office says one of two suspects wanted for the killing of a man in Gibson over the weekend has turned himself into authorities. They say 29-year-old Carl Hayes is charged with second degree murder in the shooting death of Roosevelt Stewart. Authorities are still searching for 26-year-old Kenny Veal. Veal is considered armed and dangerous.

It’s being reported that Saints linebacker Junior Galette will not undergo surgery for his injured pectoral muscle. Galette suffered the injury by lifting weights and surgery would have caused him to miss most of the upcoming season. However, doctors told Galette that the injury could be managed through rest and rehabilitation and he could potentially be available for the start of the season.

Darren Sharper pleaded guilty Monday in an Orleans Parish courtroom to two counts of forcible rape and one count of simple rape. This was the final step in Sharper’s “global plea deal” resolving criminal charges in four states. Legal analyst Tim Meche says the understanding is that Sharper will serve his time at a federal prison in California…

Under the agreement, Sharper is expected to serve 9 years in prison, with credit for good behavior and time already served.

The Saints have signed veteran defensive tackle Kevin Williams to a one-year deal. He is entering his 13th year and played for Seattle last season. Williams is a six time Pro Bowl selection, a five time first team All-Pro, and a member of the 2000s All-Decade Team.

And Louisiana Tech announces all 12 of its football games will be televised in 2015. The American Sports Network has decided to televise the four games that were not scheduled to be televised, including the September 5th season opener against Southern.

The Gulf of Mexico’s first tropical system of the season is expected to bring periods of heavy rain to western parts of Louisiana and possibly present more flooding concerns along the Red River. State Climatologist Barry Keim says Tropical Storm Bill is expected to make landfall today in Texas hitting Louisiana with even more rain for the western part of the state.

Hit and run charges are facing two people connected to a March incident in St. Mary Parish, where a Jeanerette woman was struck and killed.
