The Jindal Administration has said they are waiting on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to rule on a case involving Louisiana’s same-sex marriage ban. Clerks of Court are holding off on issuing marriage licenses until a 25-day period concludes where Supreme Court decisions can be challenged.

A report by Yahoo says Louisiana has the second most lightning strikes a year in the country. State Climatologist Barry Keim says we average about 827,000 strikes a year and lightning has caused 142 fatalities since 1959, or about 2.5 deaths a year.

The Louisiana Public Service Commission voted unanimously to approve a refund for customers of Cleco totally 1.64 million dollars, resulting from customer overcharges found in a 2014 audit of Cleco’s Rate Filing plan. People are celebrating throughout the country as the Supreme Court rules that gay marriage is legal in every state. But as of right now licenses are not being issued in Louisiana. Louisiana Clerks of Court Association Executive Director Debbie Hudnall says they are going to do what they’re legally required to do, but Supreme Court rules allow for a 25-day challenge period for any judgement or decision…:

The Louisiana AG’s office says nothing in the ruling makes the order effective immediately and they are going to wait for the Court to issue a mandate making the decision final.

Governor Bobby Jindal issued a statement which says God established that marriage is between a man and a woman and no earthly court can alter that. He says Supreme Court ruling for gay marriage nationwide “follows public opinion and tramples on states’ rights.”

It’s now a crime in Louisiana to share an explicit picture of someone without their permission because you want to cause emotional harm to that person. If you sat in all the Slidell traffic last weekend then you can rest easy if you’re traveling to the beaches this weekend. The Department of Transportation and Development says travel will not be affected due to road construction because it has been rescheduled and will resume July 10th. This is in St. Tammany Parish in the I-10/I-12/I-59 areas.

A statement from the Attorney General’s Office said that it has found nothing in today’s decision that makes the Court’s order effective immediately.

The gay and lesbian community is elated about the historic Supreme Court ruling that legalizes gay marriages in every state. But Gene Mills with the Louisiana Family Forum says this opens up tons of litigation because there will be churches who will seek to stand by their religious belief that marriage is only between a man and a woman…:

But supporters say the right decision was made here because individual liberties should not be left up voters or states to protect. The Louisiana Clerks of Court Association is telling employees not to issue licenses because there is a 25 day waiting period for a re-hearing on Supreme Court decisions.

The State treasury department says the May 2015 Net Receipts Report shows total revenue thus far for 2014-2015 was more than $7 billion which is a two percent increase compared to that time last year.

The body of 32-year-old Edmund Emerson Adams was found Friday morning, according to Washington Parish Chief Deputy Mike Haley. Adams vanished Wednesday while tubing while on the Bogue Chitto River. Friends say he lost control of his tube and disappeared below the surface of the water. His body was recovered around 6am.

Two events benefiting Governor Bobby Jindal’s presidential campaign will take place Saturday in Baton Rouge. The first will be a fundraising event at a local hotel, hosted by Tom Benson and others. The second is an invitation only event at the Governor’s Mansion featuring LSU football coach Les Miles and Saints coach Sean Payton. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says this is probably Jindal’s best and last chance to raise money in Louisiana…

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office says a Scott police officer is under arrest for allegedly using a department issued fuel card to make unauthorized gas purchases. They say, over a two-year period, 43-year-old Larry Williams made more than $3,500 in unofficial purchases. Williams is charged with one count of malfeasance in office and one count unauthorized use of an access card.

Governor Jindal has signed into law what is known as the revenge porn bill. The measure by Kenner Representative Julie Stokes makes it a crime to share an explicit photo of someone without their permission on the intent to cause harm. Jindal says this is a blatant disregard for personal privacy and the number of people affected by this is shocking.

As summer temperatures continue to rise, it’s important to remember your pets require special care to avoid heatstroke. LSU Veterinary School Associate Professor, Dr. Kirk Ryan, says heatstroke is an absolute emergency and needs to be treated immediately by cooling off with a water hose and going to a vet…

Ryan says older dogs and cats, puppies, kittens, and animals with short snouts or muzzles like pugs and bulldogs are at increased risk.

The 65th Annual Louisiana Peach Festival begins today in Ruston and there are plans to set a Guinness World Record for the largest peach cobbler. Festival Organizer Brandon Sutherland says says it’ll take over 800 pounds of peaches to create the cobbler. He says businesses all over Ruston donated ingredients and materials to achieve the goal…
