Voters in nine southeast parishes of the state will not be voting at their usual polling location due to the devastation left by Hurricane Ida. Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin says they will be sending out information to those affected along with radio ads alerting them of their new voting location. In Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes in an effort to keep voters from driving too far from their usual locations Ardoin says they will have tents set up outside buildings where voters usually cast their ballots.

The FDA could soon move to approve the mixing and matching of COVID-19 vaccines, especially good news for those seeking a different booster shot.  Dr. Lisa Morici with the Tulane School of Medicine. says the mixing of vaccine boosters has shown no indication of being harmful.

The mix of vaccines has been shown in studies to improve antibody responses.

 

 

 

Matthew Mire, the man accused in the multi-parish shooting spree that killed two, including a state trooper has been relocated to Angola state prison as he awaits trial. Legal analyst Franz Borghardt points out that Mire is simply being housed in Angola, he’s not servicing a sentence there.

Borghardt says Mire was moved from Ascension Parish at the request of Sheriff Bobby Webre.

Sabine Parish authorities with the help of an LSU forensic team have identified the skeletal remains found in a private water well 35 years ago. The remains are Lester Rome of Grand Isle. Jefferson Parish authorities reported him missing in 1984. Detective Chris Abrahams with the Sabine Sheriff’s office says the recovery of more skeletal remains from the well in April led to the positive I-D.

A man accused of going on a shooting rampage in three parishes leaving two people dead, including a state trooper, has been denied a get out of jail free card while he awaits prosecution.  Legal analyst Franz Borghardt says given the breadth of crimes Matthew Mire is accused of in Ascension, East Baton Rouge and Livingston parishes, he believes prosecutors in each will cooperate among themselves in an attempt to convict Mire.

The state Legislature begins a series of regional public forums on redistricting today. The first of nine forums takes place at 5:30 Wednesday evening at the UL-Monroe Library Terrace. Slidell Senator Sharon Hewitt is chair of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee. She urges the voting public to attend…:

Every ten years, after the Census is taken, state lawmakers must meet to redraw districts to better represent the demographics of the state, while maintaining a balance of the numbers of people represented within those areas. It’s time to take advantage of getting a free flu shot at one of the community vaccination clinics operated by the Louisiana Office of Public Health.  These will be taking place over the coming weeks, one of them today at the OPH unit in Rapides Parish.  Dr. David Holcombe is OPH medical director for central Louisiana.

When a clinic is offered in your area, bring some ID, your insurance card if you have one, but the shots are free of charge to the patient regardless.

Dr. Holcombe says there’s a lot of interest when OPH stages these one-day vaccination clinics around the state.

While Covid-19 shots will also be offered during the clinic, Holcombe encourages you to get a flu shot given the death toll that the flu racks up annually, 16-hundred in Louisiana last year alone, with the national figure possibly rising to the tens of thousands.

The flu shot is recommended for everyone over six years of age who doesn’t have a complicating condition.

Louisiana is going all out for the 95th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year. In an effort to draw tourists to the state Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser says a 60-foot-long alligator-themed float will debut to an audience of more than 20 million and it’s not like the Bayou State doesn’t know a thing or two about parade floats.

The float will feature a blend of New Orleans French Quarter architecture and Creole fashion along with Mardi Gras beads, a Pelican, a riverboat paddle wheel, and a to be named later musical act from the state performing on “Celebration Gator.”

Nungesser says it’s the first of a three-year commitment in the beloved parade and “Celebration Gator” will also appear in a promotional campaign made for a celebrity with appearances in the Big Apple.

In case you haven’t noticed, some stores are getting a head start on so-called Black Friday deals, teasing low-price offerings even before November rolls around. LSU Professor Dan Rice says we’ve seen this movie before but in a modified way.

The most noticeable deals being offered early are coming from Best Buy and Walmart. Both stores plan to be closed Thanksgiving Day, not giving the real Black Friday shoppers a jump on the traditional first day of low-price Christmas deals.

Entergy Louisiana has said the damages from 2020 hurricanes is two-point-one billion dollars and Ward says Entergy and Cleco are still tabulating Ida damages

State Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says a voluntary mediation program to help settle residential damage claims stemming from Hurricane Ida is being set up through his office.  He says two mediation firms will help resolve damage disputes of up to 50-thousand-dollars at a cost of 600-dollars to the insurer or the policyholder.

From Covington comes word from District Attorney Warren Montgomery’s office that 18-year-old Larrianna Jackson will be facing felony counts in a video-recorded attack on a wheel-chair bound disabled teacher that went viral on the app Tik-Tok.  She’s been charged with second-degree battery and cruelty to the infirmed. If found guilty, she could face up to ten years in prison.

An early Sunday morning shooting on the campus of Grambling State leaves one dead and seven others wounded. It’s the second shooting fatality in a matter of days on the campus, prompting a decision to cancel classes today and tomorrow and enforce a curfew. University President Rick Gallot says student safety is their priority.

Authorities say the deceased victims of two fatal shootings on the campus of Grambling University that occurred Sunday and Wednesday during Homecoming week were not students. Louisiana State Police has issued an arrest warrant for 18-year-old Jatavious “Rabbit” Carroll of Delhi in connection with the Wednesday shooting and Trooper Michael Reichardt says they continue to investigate Sunday’s incident.

Authorities are searching for 19-year-old Jatavious Carroll of Delhi as he’s the suspected shooter in the fatal shooting that occurred on Grambling State’s campus early Wednesday morning. State Police Master Trooper Michael Reichardt says Carroll also know as “Rabbit” shot two teenagers at an unsanctioned party…

The 11 a.m. kickoff and the Tigers’ three-and-three record thus far this season appear to be owing in part to the lower than usual ticket demand. Experts predict a Tigers loss to the Gators could mean the end of the road to Coach Ed Orgeron’s time at LSU.

State Climatologist Barry Keim says to enjoy the last warm day we’ll have for at least a few days because changes are coming.

A week after Lafayette’s Police Chief Thomas Glover was fired, he called in on Mayor Josh Guillory’s weekly radio show on KPEL accusing the mayor of firing him without cause. Glover says he’s been told Guillory is now questioning people in the department and community looking for a reason to say he was terminated.

When asked to respond on the Thursday call-in show, Guillory stated that everyone, even former employees, has the right to go to the media and say whatever they want.

Glover was fired from the department on October 7th.

 

An FDA advisory committee voted to recommend a third offering of the Moderna COVID vaccine on Thursday. Dr. Lucio Miele, Assistant Dean for Translational Science at LSU Health New Orleans says the committee has advised the FDA to give emergency use authorization to the Moderna booster shot which is actually a half dose of the vaccine.
