State Police say an officer involved shooting Monday in Houma has left a 45-year-old theft suspect dead. They say during a pursuit, a tire deflation device was used to stop the man’s vehicle. When the suspect emerged, he pointed a gun at police officers who then shot him. The suspect’s identity has not been released. This is the third officer involved shooting in Louisiana in as many days.

The Louisiana Republican Party is expected to announce their endorsement of former Congressman Jeff Landry over incumbent and fellow Republican Buddy Caldwell in this year’s Attorney General’s race. State Police say a head on collision in Plaquemines Parish has left a mother and her 4-year-old son dead and a child in another vehicle critically injured. They say 25-year-old Jenny Taing, for unknown reasons, crossed the center line of the roadway and collided with an SUV. Taing and her son suffered fatal injuries in the crash. A 6-year-old boy in the SUV was transported to a local hospital where, at last report, he was listed in critical condition. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

The two women who were shot and killed during a movie in Lafayette last week are being laid to rest today. 21-year-old Macyi Breaux was a popular student who was studying to be a radiology technician at LSU Eunice. 33-year-old Jillian Johnson was an outgoing artist who ran retail boutiques in Lafayette and New Orleans. At last report, 4 of the 9 other people who were injured remain hospitalized and are expected to recover.

A Colorado jury deciding the fate of Colorado theater shooter James Holmes is being questioned about the media coverage of last week’s Lafayette theater shooting. The concern is whether or not Thursday night’s shooting will influence their their deliberations in Holmes’ sentencing. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office says they’ve arrested 15 suspects for their alleged involvement in a somewhat organized heroin ring. Deputies say 12 people remain at large and the group is believed to be responsible for distributing large amounts of heroin in the west part of the northshore parish. The multi-jurisdiction investigation dubbed Operation Fishnet has been going on for 14 months and has just come to an end. Anyone with information on the suspects at large is urged to contact authorities.
