A state district judge has thrown out the lawsuit of a candidate for the State House of Representatives who wanted to be listed as both Democrat and Republican on the ballot. Houma attorney Damon Baldone filed the suit after the Terrebonne Parish registrar of voters listed his party affiliation as “other”. Baldone feels he has the Constitutional right to register with both parties…:

Baton Rouge chef Jay Ducote was not the big winner on this season’s Food Network Star. The Louisiana food blogger and radio host found out last night, along with the rest of the viewers, that he is the runner-up after former NFL player Eddie Jackson was named the Food Network Star of the cooking competition’s 11th season. Ducote, who has also competed on Masterchef, Cutthroat Kitchen and Last Call Food Brawl, maintains this is just the beginning.

The Terrebone Parish Sheriff’s Office says a woman is facing many charges after going on an apparent tirade against her ex-boyfriend and several others. Captain Dawn Foret says they received 911 calls regarding 25-year-old Miranda Riley of Dularge ramming her vehicle into other cars and trying to fight with multiple people while armed with a knife:

Foret says they also believe Riley set the victim’s trailer on fire and bashed in all of the windows. The woman charges include of arson and felony criminal damage to property.

Through the first major scrimmage of LSU’s fall camp, Brandon Harris has the lead over Anthony Jennings in the battle for starting quarterback. Coach Les Miles says Harris received more of the snaps with the first unit during a scrimmage on Saturday night. Harris appeared in nine games last season, but didn’t see many significant snaps in final few games but coach maintains he’s more comfortable with the offense this season.

Authorities in Arkansas have released details of a fatal collision which claimed the life of a Louisiana Tech track and field athlete. They say 22-year-old Noah James Richie of Madisonville died in the accident near the Joplin community in western Arkansas when the car he was driving crossed the center line on the roadway and hit another vehicle head on. Rich, who was the javelin thrower on the Tech Track and field team was pronounced dead on scene.

Legal experts anticipate the debate over the Confederate monuments in New Orleans will go on for years and years. The legislative process of removing 4 statues from their current location has started. State Police say a man from Houston was arrested after he was caught using fake money at a casino in Lake Charles. They say 27-year-old William Jabour tried to buy into a table with counterfeit bills and had already used them on roulette and craps. Investigators found bogus $100 and $50 bills in Jabour’s possession. He was charged with 49 counts of monetary instrument abuse and faces a million dollar fine and up to 10 years in prison.

State Police say an Alexandria man is dead after a single vehicle motorcycle crash in Jefferson Davis Parish. Authorities say 62-year-old Donald Stanfield failed to negotiate a right turn onto an exit ramp on I-10. The motorcycle traveled off the roadway and struck a sign, ejecting Stanfield. Stanfield, who was wearing an approved helmet at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is promoting their Catch and Cook Program that allows anglers to bring their catch to a local restaurant to be prepared by a chef. Franklin Senator Bret Allain says it doesn’t cost a restaurant anything to participate in the program and they can charge the guest any amount they choose for the prepared dish.

Louisiana State Police say a Lottie man died after being involved in a head on collision with Acadian Ambulance. 61-year-old Brett Bergeron was driving south on LA 411 in Livonia when, for unknown reasons, his truck crossed the center line into north bound traffic and struck the ambulance head-on. The ambulance driver sustained minor injuries. Bergeron was wearing a seatbelt during the accident but suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office says a Grenta truck driver is charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl. Commander Eric Becnel says 29-year-old Peter James Wilson III met up with the girl and forced her to perform sexual acts in the sleeper compartment of his truck. He says Wilson claims he’s never seen the victim in person.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso says the crime scene authorities have been searching for human remains under the I-10 Bridge this week. He says no body has been found but they have evidence 35-year-old Gammion McCloud, of Arizona, killed someone and threw them over the bridge.

Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash that took the life of a 19-year-old Larose man. Cody Duet was driving south on LA 308 in Thibodaux, when for unknown reasons, his vehicle traveled off the right side of the road after taking a left hand curve. The car hit a ditch and flipped over. Duet was not wearing a seatbelt and ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The extreme rainfall and heavy storms earlier in the summer that caused the Red River flooding resulted in almost 7 million dollars in damage to agriculture in Northwest Louisiana. Kurt Guidry, LSU AgCenter economist, says this is just a preliminary estimate and expects the numbers to be even higher.

The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office says a track driver is charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl. Commander Eric Becnel says 29-year-old Peter James Wilson III of Gretna chatted with the teenager on a smartphone app last month and planned to meet. He says after meeting up, Wilson took the girl to the Naval Air Station in Belle Chasse where he was making a delivery.
