He says while smaller doses of caffeine in coffee or sodas are okay, danger enters the equation when you’re dealing with powder caffeine in a bulk container..:

Minden Congressman John Fleming is asking President Obama to hold a National Day of Prayer to stop violence against police officers. Louisiana has lost 6 cops in the line of duty already this year. Fleming says we can’t allow this pattern of targeting law enforcement to continue…:

State Police has identified the woman who was killed while riding her bike in Tangipahoa Parish late at night. They say 35-year-old Ashley Thames of Robert was traveling on the US 190 Tangipahoa River Bridge when she was struck from behind by an SUV. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators say there were no reflectors on the bike and it’s not expected that the driver of the vehicle will be cited.

The Department of Health and Hospitals says 82 percent of birth hospitals in Louisiana are providing families with access to breastfeeding support and resources. Amy Zapata is the Bureau of Family Health Director at DHH. She says improving breastfeeding rates is one of the most profound, low-cost measures to promote health of mothers and babies…:

A federal judge this afternoon is set to hear Planned Parenthood’s lawsuit case against Governor Bobby Jindal over the Administration’s plan to cancel the organization’s Medicaid contracts. Jindal is upset over videos which allegedly show Planned Parenthood leaders discussing the sale of fetuses. But Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat doesn’t think Jindal can just cancel funding for the program…:

Court documents showed this week that the US Justice Department is siding with Planned Parenthood.

The Ouachita Parish School system reports that two students have been arrested in separate incidents. They say one involved a 7th graders from Woodlawn Elementary who brought an unloaded pistol to school. The other happened at Ouachita High where a 15-year-old allegedly hit a teacher. Both were arrested by the Ouachita Parish sheriff’s deputies Tuesday.

Do you think Shreveport is the most redneck city in Louisiana? A data compiling website called RoadSnacks finds this on their most redneck cities list. The Saints had to reduce their roster to 75 yesterday. Among the players released…wide receiver Nick Toon, cornerback Terrence Frederick, and outside linebacker Ronald Powell, who was a fifth round pick last season. The Black and Gold also traded wide receiver Jalen Saunders to New England for a conditional draft pick. Saunders is not needed, because of the emergence of Marcus Murphy as a kick returner.

In other Saints news, rookie cornerback P.J. Willimas has been placed on the season ending injured reserve list. Williams, a third round draft choice, has a reported torn hamstring.

The Black and Gold also claimed former Miami Dolphins cornerback Sammy Seamster off of waivers. The 6-foot, 205 pounder played in two game last season for the Dolphins as a rookie.

In the big leagues, Miami crushed Atlanta 7-1, the Astros fell to the Mariners 7-5, and Texas outscored San Diego 8-6. Houston now holds a three game lead over the Rangers in the American League West.

The state of the oil and gas industry in Louisiana isn’t pretty. That’s according to Louisiana Oil and Gas Association President Don Briggs. He says not only is this meaning massive layoffs, but every dollar drop in the price for crude oil equals a $12.5 million loss to the state budget..:

He says there are only 71 oil and natural gas drilling sites in Louisiana, down from 116 a year ago.

A super PAC which supports Republican David Vitter for governor has launched an ad campaign which attacks GOP oppoents Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne and Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle. The 30 second ad, which is running in Shreveport and Monroe, criticizes Dardenne for his support of the Stelly Plan and Angelle for supporting the requirement of companies to collect state sales tax on online purchases.

The latest Republican presidential polls in Iowa show Governor Bobby Jindal rounding up very little support. Eric Gill reports…:

The Shreveport Police Department says they are searching for answers in the case of the discovery of charred human remains which were found in a burning vehicle around 2am near I-49. They say firefighters extinguished the blaze and located human skeletal remains inside the Chevy Avalanche. Authorities are conducting interviews and searching missing persons reports. Investigators have not ruled out foul play in the matter.
