A federal judge fines the state 50-thousand dollars as part of the case brought by Angola death row inmates, who say its too hot during the summer. Judge Brian Jackson says the fines are the result of state correction officials manipulating the court-order collection of temperature data on death row by installing awnings and using soaker hoses.

Tomorrow is Election Day … so who does it look like will make the runoff in the Governor’s race? Jeremy Alford with lapolitics.com says the surprise we could see when polls close at 8 is that Republican David Vitter is edged by either GOP candidates Jay Dardennne or Scott Angelle. He says Democrat John Bel Edwards should lead the primary field…:

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s office says they now have a handgun that was found in a student’s backpack at Golden Meadow Upper Elementary School. Spokesperson Brennan Matherne says they don’t think the child knew the weapon was in his bag and are investigating:

The Mississippi Cop who was refused access to a restaurant in Destin because he was wearing an LSU hat says he’s never going back, even though Harry T’s has issued an apology for “Unsportsmanlike conduct.” The fan is Don Bass with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi. He says following being told he was not welcome, he sent the owner an email…:

Gas prices keep dropping. The current statewide average for a gallon of regular is now $1.97 down almost a nickle from last week says AAA.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s office has secured a handgun after it was found in a Golden Meadow Upper Elementary School student’s backpack. Spokesperson Brennan Matherne says the student notified a teacher immediately after discovering the weapon in his bag…:

He says they have an idea about what happened and are gathering information at this time.

Forecasters say some outliers from Hurricane Patricia in the Pacific could dump up to 5 inches of rain or more to some areas in Louisiana. The system is currently threatening Mexico and forecasters say wet weather is coming to our drought stricken state starting Sunday.

There was enough social media outrage this week over a restaurant in Destin, Florida denying a LSU fan inside during the Tigers/Gators game, that Harry T’s has now issued a “sincere apology.” The fan is Don Bass, the Chief Criminal Deputy at the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi. He says he went to Harry T’s to meet up with some friends:

He emailed Harry T’s and they responded that LSU did not have a good name there. Bass posted it on Facebook, it went viral and the restaurant is now back peddling big time even offering an LSU scholarship donation.

The Secretary of State’s Office is reminding you to vote tomorrow when polls are open between 7am-8pm. Spokesperson Meg Casper says you can easily see what’s on your specific ballot using the Geaux Vote app (geaux spelled the Cajun way). She says you only get 3 minutes in the voting booth so it’s a good idea to come prepared…:

Local radio stations throughout the state will be broadcasting election results in real time after polls close at 8.

The Alliance for Affordable Energy, has concerns about the proposed merger between Pineville-based Cleco and Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets. Logan Atkinson-Burke , with the Alliance for Affordable Energy, says Macauarie has a history of purchasing utilities and then raising rates. A Cleco spokesperson says Macquarie is committed to providing rate credits once the merger is approved.

Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon blames the Jindal administration for letters sent by the Office of Motor Vehicles seeking money from residents who at one time may have allowed their auto insurance to lapse. Jeff Palermo has the story…:

The Lake Charles Police Department says they will give another update today on the case of the 3-year-old baby who shot. They have already arrested 20-year-old Keylon Stevens in connection with the suspected home invasion and issued an arrest warrant for 24-year-old Diamond King who was at large as of Thursday afternoon. The baby is expected to survive.

Election Day is tomorrow and polls will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. Secretary of State Spokesperson Meg Casper says those in line by 8:00 p.m.  will be allowed to vote. She says voters curious to see who is on your ballot, visit Geaux Vote.com.

Casper wants to remind voters to bring your photo ID but if you do forget, there is a way to fill out an affidavit and you will not be turned away. She says there is a limit of three minutes at the voting booth to make sure lines move quickly, so make sure you’re up to date with everyone on your ballot.

The Secretary of State’s official prediction for voter turnout is about 45 to 50 percent. Casper says to get the quickest and most up to date results on the election, voters can go to S-O-S-dot-L-A-dot-gov (SOS.LA.Gov).  The consumer group, The Alliance for Affordable Energy, isn’t happy with the possible merger of Pineville-based Cleco Corp. and Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets. Logan Atkinson-Burke with the Alliance of Affordable Energy says it’s a bad and unfair deal for Cleco customers.

 The Public Service Commission will get the chance to approve this merger early next year. Atkinson-Burke says Macquarie has a history of purchasing utilities and making promises then raising rates as soon as possible. She says the company has done this in other states.

 Robbyn Cooper with Cleco says this will be a great deal and is beneficial for the company and their employees. She says as part of the agreement, Macquarie has committed to providing rate credits for customers totally 65 million dollars over a ten year period.

Cooper says the new owners have a recognized record of success. She says customer rates will not go up as a result of the merger.

Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon believes the debt collection notices sent out by the state Office of Motor Vehicles to Louisiana citizens, who allegedly allowed their auto insurance to lapse, is an attempt by the Jindal administration to plug a hole in the state’s budget. But Donelon is glad the OMV will allow a person to defend themself from paying these fines

 The OMV sent 1.2 million notices notifying residents they face fines for allowing their auto insurance to lapse. Many of the cases happened years ago. Donelon says he plans to meet with OMV Commissioner Stephen Campbell next week to talk about how the insurance department can help determine if a fine is warranted

State Police, which oversees the Office of Motor Vehicles, says those residents who received a notice and want to dispute they owe a fine, are asked to call the number listed on the letter. Donelon says he’s been told the OMV will act fairly…

According to analysis from the Center for Public Integrity, Louisiana leads the country in political TV advertising this year at 15.8 million dollars. Jeremy Alford, with lapolitics.com, says Republican David Vitter and a Super PAC supporting him has also spent a lot of money on ads. He says much of them target the other two republican candidates..:

He says the bad news is that negative ads tend to keep people from voting. Election Day is Saturday.

The OMV says they are working extra hours to try to address concerns over letters drivers are getting for not paying expired auto insurance fines. 1.2 million letters were sent out for lapsed insurance. State Police spokesperson Lt. J.B. Slaton says they are willing to work with the public…:

In last night’s final debate before the October 24th primary, Republican Scott Angelle directed the audience to visit the political blog American Zombie which has videos of a prostitute who claims Republican David Vitter was one of her clients in the 90s. He says American Zombie is known for picking up controversial stories, which may or may not be true, that traditional media isn’t interested in publishing…:

Angelle said the prostitution scandal will continue to hurt Louisiana if Vitter becomes governor. A Vitter spokesperson says this blog is known to post bogus stories.

Governor Bobby Jindal has once again been shut out of the main Republican presidential debate, but has been invited to the lower tier debate just before. CNBC will have the top 10 GOP candidates in primetime at 8pm on October 28th. The undercard debate with Jindal takes place at 6pm.

Governor Bobby Jindal has once again been shut out of the main Republican presidential debate, but has been invited to the lower tier debate just before. CNBC will have the top 10 GOP candidates in primetime at 8pm on October 28th. The undercard debate takes place at 6pm. Jindal’s poll numbers aren’t high enough to qualify for the bigger debate.

Hundreds of new jobs are coming to the Port of Iberia as two large companies announce plans to begin projects at there. President of the Iberia Industrial Development Foundation Mike Tarintino says the reason new businesses are investing in the area is because the Port of Iberia is in an ideal location for the oil and gas industry…:

Tarintino says Primoris Services Corp. and Dynamic Industries are now seeking about 600 new employees to get started.

The Shreveport Police Department says a man who was waving his knife at people and then at an officer was shot by the cop. Corporal Breck Scott says they got a call around 8 this morning about an armed man near the Eldorado Casino…:

The Union Parish Sheriff’s Office says a fight between two inmates at the jail resulted in the death of one and now the other faces a homicide charge. They say 63-year-old James Moore III of Bogalusa died from injuries he sustained in the fight. 50-year-old Clarence Steward of Shreveport, who was serving time on a burglary charge, could now be charged with murder.

Angelle made some waves with comments referring to Vitter’s prostitution scandal and urging the live TV audience to visit a website with a video of a woman claiming the US Senator paid her for sex in the 90s. Polls are open Saturday between 7am and 8pm.

The US Department of Ag and Forestry says 41 parishes in Louisiana are in such horrible drought that farmers and ranchers are eligible for disaster aid. Those qualified have eight months to apply for low-interest emergency loans from the Farm Service Agency.

The Louisiana State Fair, now in it’s 109th year, gets underway today in Shreveport. President and Grand Marshal Chris Giordano says this year the fair is bringing back the Red River State Fair Classic football game, which features Grambling State and Texas Southern on November 7th…:

Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Angelle is causing a buzz today over comments he made about fellow GOP candidate David Vitter during last night’s debate at LSU. Angelle said a shadow has been cast over the US Senator and, if he’s elected governor, that shadow will follow Louisiana. The comment was in reference to Vitter’s prostitution scandal. Republican Jay Dardenne and Democrat John Bel Edwards were also at the debate, but Vitter declined the invitation.

ULM Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley says the biggest surprise that could come Election Day Saturday would be Angelle overtaking Vitter for second place to make the November 21st runoff with Edwards. He believes the fact that Angelle hit the airwaves before Dardenne worked in his favor…:

An Assumption Parish man who pleaded guilty for being responsible for a drunk driving crash which claimed the life of an 8-year-old child and injured two children, ages 4 and 5 — is facing up to seven years in prison. 27-year-old Brian Gilton was sentenced Wednesday on charges of vehicular homicide and two counts of first degree negligent injuring from the 2014 incident.
