The music community is in mourning today after the passing of New Orleans music icon Allen Toussaint. Toussaint (Two-Saint) was on tour in Europe when he reportedly suffered a fatal heart attack after a performance Monday in Madrid, Spain. Louisiana Music Hall of Fame President Mike Shepherd says Toussaint was not only one of the biggest international figures in music, but was also a true gentleman…:

The two candidates for Governor in the November 21st runoff will face off in a debate hosted by Louisiana Public Broadcasting and the Council for a Better Louisiana tonight. The debate between Republican David Vitter and Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Bel Edwards begins at 7PM and will be televised statewide on LPB stations.

The US 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled Louisiana can keep the final Angola 3 inmate in jail and try him again in the 1972 killing of a prison guard. The move reverses an order by a US District Judge that Albert Woodfox must be released and not face a third trial. Legal analyst Tim Meche says Woodfox’s other two convictions were tossed on technicalities.

Meche says even though lawyers have been successful at getting support for Woodfox’s release, he’ll still need to be tried again in front of a jury.

Bayou Country Superfest announces the lineup for the 2016 shows in Tiger Stadium. In the three nights over Memorial Day Weekend, May 27th-29th, fans will hear from Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Eric Chuch, Dierks Bentley, Darius Rucker, Little Big Town and Lady Antebellum just to name a few.

Marksville state Representative Robert Johnson says legislators must do whatever they can to prevent another incident like last Tuesday’s fatal city marshal shooting from happening again. Eric Gill reports…:

Legendary New Orleans songwriter, producer, arranger, performer, and Grammy winner, Allen Toussaint, died Monday while he was on tour in Europe, according to his family. Toussaint was on tour in Spain and died after his performance. He was 77.

The Council for a Better Louisiana and Louisiana Public Broadcasting are hosting tonight’s televised gubernatorial debate between Republican David Vitter and Democrat John Bel Edwards. CABLE President Barry Erwin says viewers can expect the candidates to discuss familiar issues..:

We’ll find out tonight were LSU will stand on the second week’s announcement of this season’s CFP rankings. Jerry Palm, with CBSsports.com, doesn’t think the Tigers one loss to Alabama will mean they couldn’t make the playoffs, and his prediction tonight is that LSU will come in at No. 5, down from No. 2…:

The music legend was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2009, and the Blues Hall of Fame in 2011. Toussaint is survived by his two children and several grandchildren. He was 77-years-old.

Edwards says as governor, he will be the leader that puts Louisiana first. He says after 8 years of Governor Jindal’s failed leadership and disastrous polities, it’s time for a change…

Marksville state Representative Robert Johnson doesn’t believe that to be the case…

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has overturned the release of Angola 3 inmate Albert Woodfox and rules that plans to try him for a third time for the 1972 murder of a prison guard can continue. The appellant court says US District Judge James Brady abused his discretion in his June order to immediately release Woodfox and barring a third trial. Both of Woodfox’s convictions in the murder of Brent Miller have been overturned.

Louisiana Tech running back Kenneth Dixon is named the Lousiana Sports Writers Association’s Offensive Player of the Week. Dixon set a Conference USA record rushing for six touchdowns in the Bulldog’s 56-13 win over North Texas. Nicholls State’s Ahmaini Martin was named LSWA’s Defensive Player of the Week. Martin had 10 tackles and an interception in the Colonels win over Lamar last Saturday.

The New Orleans Saints have signed former LSU quarterback Matt Flynn to the roster. Flynn will step in and replace Luke McCown as the back up to starting quarterback Drew Brees. McCown injured his back last week and was placed on the injured reserve list to open a roster spot for Flynn. McCown is expected to have surgery on his back today, which will end his season.

The Pelicans are still looking for win number one this season. They’re hoping to get it tonight against the Mavericks at the Smoothie King Center.

Republican candidate for governor, David Vitter, has a new television ad that acknowledges his prostitution scandal. In his 30 second spot Vitter says he failed his family but found forgiveness and love. Meanwhile, his Democratic opponent John Bel Edwards, has a spot running that says Vitter answered a prostitute’s call instead of voting on legislation for fallen soldiers. Edwards stands by the facts in the commercial.

Bond for the two men arrested in the death of 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis has been set at $1 million each. Norris Greenhouse, Jr. and Derrick Stafford are charged with second degree murder in the child’s death. Loyola Law Professor Dane Ciolino says charges against the men could rise to first degree murder or fall to negligent homicide depending on what the grand jury decides…

Lafayette City-Parish President Joey Durel says the movie theater where a man opened fire on a crowd of people in July, will open its doors for the first time since the shootings in 10 days. Today, State Police honored the four people who rendered aid to Trooper Steven Vincent while he was critically wounded during a traffic stop in August. Norris Greenhouse, Jr. and Derrick Stafford are each charged with second degree murder in the death of 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis.

The Lafayette movie theater that was the site of a deadly shooting in July plans to re-open its doors this month…:
