The Tigers have lost three in a row for the first time in Miles 11-year coaching career at LSU. Miles is under contract through 2019, but LSU could fire him after Saturday and buyout his contract for 15 million dollars.

Crawfordville, Florida four-star quarterback Feleipe Franks announced that he has decommitted from LSU. Franks was the Tigers only quarterback commitment for the Class of 2016. It is now expected that Franks will sign with the University of Florida.

Marquette guard Jajuan Johnson hit two free-throws with 10.8 seconds remaining to lift the Golden Eagles to an 81-80 win over 22nd ranked LSU in the semifinals of the Legends Classic in Brooklyn, New York. Freshman standout Ben Simmons led all scorers with 21 and added 20 rebounds in the effort. Tim Quarterman threw in another 20 for the Bayou Bengals as they fall to 3-1 on the season. Marquette will face Arizona State in tonight’s championship game. LSU faces North Carolina State in the consolation game at 4:30 this afternoon. That game can be seen on ESPNU.

Elsewhere on the college hardwood today, the 3-0 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs are on the road to face the Ohio State Buckeyes, Southern will host Dillard, and Southeastern Louisiana visits the undefeated 24th ranked Cincinnati Bearcats.

Nicholls State and the Manning Passing Academy have signed a six-year contract extension that keeps the football skills camp on the Thibodaux campus through 2021. Nicholls has hosted the four-day summer football camp since 2005.

Not many tips are coming in after the shooting at Bunny Friend Playground that left 17 people injured in front of about 500 people. Mayor Mitch Landrieu says this was an act of domestic terrorism. He says there were a lot of onlookers recording on their cell phones and isn’t sure why more people haven’t come forward with information.

 

Bossier Parish authorities are searching to figure out why a mother fatally shot her son and injured another woman while driving down Interstate 20. Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Lt. Bill Davis says after leaving a casino, 47-year-old Dora Blake of Minden took out a handgun, while riding in the backseat of the vehicle and shot the two people in the front seat.

There is a lot of talk concerning the job security of Les Miles’ at LSU. Tiger Rag Editor Cody Worsham says athletic director Joe Alleva hasn’t mentioned Miles’ future. Edwards first priority is to foucs on the budget, as the state is facing a one-billion dollar revenue shortfall. He pledges to keep to his campaign promise and that is bring a moderate and bipartisan approach to the governor’s office….

He says Blake was highly intoxicated and booked into Bossier Maximum Security Facility on a one million dollar bond.

The Natchitoches Police Department is investigating a fatal weekend shooting at a local apartment complex. They say, after receiving a 9-1-1 call over the weekend, officers found a man in one of the apartments with a gunshot wound to the face. Little information has been released, but the victim has been identified as 35-year-old Fredrick Sowell. The investigation is ongoing.

New Orleans Police announce the arrest of the suspect wanted in the Friday shooting of a Tulane medical student. Video surveillance shows 25-year-old Peter Gold trying to help a woman who was apparently being mugged by 21-year-old Euric Cain. Cain pulled a gun on Gold and shot him in the abdomen. Cain then pointed the gun at Gold’s head and pulled the trigger, but the gun jammed. Cain is charged with attempted first degree murder, second degree kidnapping, and armed robbery.

The two men arrested in Florida for the killing of a Baton Rouge couple, whose bodies were found at a Hammond truck stop last month, are expected to be transported back to Louisiana in the coming days. A Broward County, Florida State’s Attorney spokesperson says arrangements are being made to extradite both Frank Garcia and Ernesto Alonso to face murder charges in the deaths of Denis and Suzanne Duplantier. Alonso stopped resisting his extradition last week. Garcia waived extradition this morning.

The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office says a Minden woman is under arrest after allegedly shooting two people in a car she was riding in, killing her son. They say 47-year-old Dora Blake was riding in the back seat when she found a gun in the vehicle and shot and killed her son, 22-year-old Patrick Hollingsworth, and wounded a female passenger in the front seat. Blake is charged with first degree murder and attempted first degree murder. Authorities say Blake was highly intoxicated.
