Matthew Mire, the man accused in the multi-parish shooting spree that killed two, including a state trooper has been relocated to Angola state prison as he awaits trial. Legal analyst Franz Borghardt points out that Mire is simply being housed in Angola, not servicing a sentence. While it’s not the norm for a suspect awaiting trial to be held in the state prison, Borghardt says it’s not completely unheard of. He says, from a defense attorney’s perspective, you want your client in a location where they are accessible and feel comfortable…:

Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Rick Ward says the state is still waiting on AT&T to explain why phone service went down right after Hurricane Ida. Ward says they will bring AT&T officials back to the Capitol to get an explanation and assurances a similar outage won’t happen in the future…:

More frustration in Hurricane Ida-ravaged Terrebonne Parish with the slow pace of getting temporary housing trailers delivered and set up. Houma state Representative Tanner Magee says the contractor hired by GOHSEP, APTIM, is not being held accountable for timelines and producing results…:

Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Rick Ward says the state is still waiting on AT&T to explain why phone service went down in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Ida. Ward says he’s also yet to hear from utility companies on how much of a surcharge customers will pay for the repair and in some cases the rebuilding of the power distribution system following Ida. Ward is 39-years-old and a Republican from Port Allen. He says he is talking with his family about running for governor in 2023. Ward says his ability to work with both major parties could make him an attractive candidate…:

A Pineville man accused of killing his own wife back in 2014 has turned himself in. 37-year-old Dustin Parra was indicted buy an Avoyelles Parish grand jury last week with a Second-Degree Murder charge. He’s also charged with Obstruction of Justice for leading investigators to believe Megan Parra committed suicide. His bond is set at $300-thousand.

 

Senator Bill Cassidy is no fan of former President Donald Trump. On the HBO series “Axios”, Cassidy said he would NOT vote for Trump if he runs for the White House again. He says Trump’s loss a year ago set up the Biden Administration, which has been an economic disaster for America…:

Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says there is now voluntary mediation for those having trouble getting their Hurricane Ida claims resolved. He says the mediation will be handled by one of two groups in Metairie and Baton Rouge…:

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the victims shot on last Saturday night, following an apparent argument over a parking charge. 23-year-old Zelanz French was shot and killed; 22-year-old D’Nique Walker wounded. This happened within a couple miles of the Grambling campus, and started with an argument over $5 to park for a nearby party.

 

Houma State Representative Tanner Magee sends an angry letter to the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness; blasting them for their slow progress in getting temporary disaster housing set up for Hurricane Ida victims. 1100 trailers have been purchased, but only a handful have been set up & hooked up…:

On the HBO documentary series “Axios”, Senator Bill Cassidy said he would not vote for Donald Trump if he ran for President in 2024. A New Orleans city councilman with a history of drunk driving was arrested for the second time early Monday morning; again for DUI. Jared Brossett was arrested last year for drinking behind the wheel when he crashed his city-issued car into another vehicle. Details of this most-recent arrest have not been released.

 

Now that the coaching future of Ed Orgeron has been decided, LSU begins the search for a new football coach. Tiger Rag Editor Ron Higgins says Athletic Director Scott Woodward will have a lot of candidates to consider…:

Lafayette Police warn of a phone scam making the rounds. Callers will SAY they are with the local police or sheriff’s office; claiming to have a warrant for your arrest. But, they will take money to resolve the matter. The first red flag is them asking for money. The second is them asking for non-traceable forms of money, like store gift cards. Just hang up.

 

AARP has a new website tool up and running that is there to assist veterans access health care in the state.  Troy Broussard with AARP-Louisiana says of the more than 300 thousand vets in the state only a fraction have used their VA health care benefits. He says the VetsHealthNavigator contains a significant amount of detailed information about benefits available to nearly 60 percent of all veterans…:

Police in Sulphur are investigating a crash that caused the death of a 7-year-old girl over the weekend. The accident happened on U.S. 90 on Saturday. Police say the child was not properly restrained in the back seat. Three others in the car were treated for minor injuries.

New Orleans Police are investigating a shooting this morning ON Interstate-10 near the Superdome that left two people – a man and a woman – seriously hurt. So far no motive, nor suspects in the crime.

An early Sunday morning shooting on the Grambling University campus leaves one person dead and seven injured. This is the second d incident of gunplay at Grambling in just a matter of days. University President Rick Gallot says Sunday Homecoming events were cancelled and counseling is being offered for those that feel the need. Gallot says – like other communities – Grambling isn’t immune to violence…:

A mounted patrol has returned to Beauregard Parish in southwest Louisiana. Sheriff Mark Herford says the unit already patrolled the parish fair and even made a drug bust in the parking lot. So, other than fairs and festivals, how will the mounted officers serve…?

It’s been 14 years since Beauregard Parish had officers on horseback.

A Rapides Parish woman is sentenced to 50 years in prison for the November 2018 death of her invalid daughter, due to severe and intentional neglect. 50-year-old Karen Johnson Harrison pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter for the death 25-year-old Cyra Harrison, who had cerebral palsy. The judge in the case says, in this case, it will be a life sentence.

A New Orleans man faces criminal charges after video shot by a neighbor emerged showing the man tying up his dog, duct taping its muzzle and eyes, then tasing it several times. Karl Jackson was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.

Lawmen in north Louisiana are on the lookout for the man suspected of committing a murder on the Grambling University campus Wednesday morning. State Police Master Trooper Michael Reichardt says 19-year-old Delhi resident Jatavious Carroll (also known as “Rabbit”) shot two teenagers at an unsanctioned party. One of them, 19-year-old Demarius Murphy, of Rayville, died. Reichardt says a BOLO is out for Carroll for murder, attempted murder and more…:

A week after Lafayette’s Police Chief Thomas Glover was fired, he called in to Mayor Josh Guillory’s weekly radio show on KPEL; accusing the mayor of firing him without cause. Glover says he’s been told Guillory is now questioning people in the department and community looking for a reason to say he was terminated…:

Four of five violent teen offenders who escaped from a juvenile detention center in Baton Rouge have been caught, but the search is still on for the fifth. The group attacked and stabbed some guards to make their escape, then stole a vehicle. The guards were treated for minor injuries.

 

Authorities are searching for the man who shot and killed another man on Grambling State’s campus early Wednesday morning. State Police Master Trooper Michael Reichardt says the suspect is 19-year-old Jatavious Carroll of Delhi…:

State Climatologist Barry Keim says to enjoy the last warm day we’ll have for at least a few days because changes are coming. He says low temps will drop into the 50s in the northern parishes and 60s in the southern parishes tomorrow morning, and by Sunday morning low temperatures will fall about another ten degrees. Keim says it’ll be ideal weather for going outdoors…:

Amid some talk that Shreveport Mardi Gras krewes might move their parades to Bossier City next year, the Mayor of Bossier has come forward with official word on that, and the word is “no”.  Mayor Tommy Chandler says taking on the parades is “not in the best interest of the citizens of Bossier City.”
