State health officials have decided to prolong the COVID 19 vaccine incentive program known as “Shot for 100” through the end of November. Brother kills brother in Lincoln Parish. Deputies say a man identified as Robert Warrick, of Dubach, was found stabbed to death. After some investigating they arrested 32-year-old Bradley Warrick as the accused killer. He’s charged with 2nd-degree murder and held in the Lincoln Parish jail.

Bardwell has been charged with 2 counts of 2nd degree murder and terminated from his job with the Ouachita Parish jail. Springfield says the investigation is ongoing.

State Police continue to investigate ten fatal traffic crashes over the Halloween weekend. 12 people are dead as a result of those accidents; including two kids. State Police Sgt. James Anderson says there were a number of reasons for the high number of crashes…:

The New Orleans Saints pulled of a win against the defending World Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday, but at the cost of quarterback Jameis Winston, who suffered a season-ending knee injury. Saints radio color analyst Deuce McAllister says the NFL trade deadline is tomorrow, but doesn’t expect the team to make a big move..:

Louisiana’s Gaming Commission grants four new licenses for legal sports betting. Those casinos are Harrah’s and Boomtown in New Orleans, L’Auberge in Baton Rouge and Horseshoe in Bossier City. State Gaming Commissioner Ronnie Johns says those were the first to complete their application, review and approval process. Johns says more sports book will be coming soon…:

A state appeals court rules Ochsner Health-Shreveport may not fire workers for refusing the COVID vaccine while the mandate’s legality is in court. That’s in the state’s 2nd Circuit. A group of Ochsner employees faced termination Friday, if they did not comply. The plaintiff’s lawyer says he’ll take all the way to the Supreme Court if needs be.

The Shreveport City Council is seemingly waging war on small businesses who use those towable, lighted marquee signs out front. Many small businesses cannot afford larger, more impressive signage … yet the council has temporarily banned them and may do so permanently. Some small business owners feel the city doesn’t want them there, but are more than willing to take the sales taxes they generate.

 

Sports betting will be available at more casinos in Louisiana as early as this weekend. Until recently, only Paragon Casino in Marksville was allowed to have legalized sports book. State Gaming Commissioner Ronnie Johns says four new licenses were issued Friday…:

He says they can open as early as Sunday. L’Auberge in Baton Rouge has a big opening planned for Monday. Johns says nine more sports book license are expected to be issued soon.

Early voting for the November 13th election begins Saturday across Louisiana. Now through next Saturday (excluding Sunday, of course) you can quickly cast your votes on four constitutional amendments and whatever local elections are on the ballot. Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin says some early voting locations will be moved, so that social distancing can still be observed; like for instance the Orleans Parish registrar’s office…:

Orleans has a big ballot, with a Mayoral race and city council seats to be decided.

It’s Halloween weekend, and once again we’re reminded to NOT share our candy treats with the family pets … or let them get at them themselves. LSU Vet School spokesperson Ginger Guttner says sweets can cause pancreatitis, which is very painful for your fur baby..:

This weekend is the “Go Out and Fish” program, sponsored by Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries. LWF’s Danica Williams says they have stocked ponds strategically with catfish, so you’ll have a better chance of landing a big one. She also says there are other things you can beside cast a line..:

Governor John Bel Edwards traveled to Lake Charles to see for himself the damage wrought by a suspected EF-2 tornado that touched down on the city’s south side Wednesday; severely damaging more than two dozen homes and injuring two people. The Governor says, after two hurricanes just over a year ago, this disaster is especially trying…:

The National Weather Service is collecting data to confirm the size and intensity of that twister.

After Lake Charles, the Governor boarded a jet for England and an economic development meeting with Drax Biomass in York. Then it’s on to Glasgow, Scotland for the U.N. Summit on Climate Change. He returns to Louisiana November 5th.

 

Police in Bossier City say road rage led to a fatal shooting Wednesday night in the parking lot of Willis-Knighten Hospital. BCPD Lt. Bart Cavanagh says the suspect, Ramsey Akes, followed the victim, Cynthia Walker, into the lot and shot her several times. Cavanagh says Akes was angry over something that occurred in traffic elsewhere…:

Akes is charged with 1st Degree Murder. His bond is set at 275-thousand dollars.

A Louisiana energy industry leader is in the hospital; mourning the loss of his wife in a Wednesday traffic crash on I-12 in Tangipahoa Parish. State Police Trooper William Huggins says Louisiana Oil & Gas Association founder Don Briggs will recover, but 77-year-old Nannette Briggs was riding without a seat belt and did not survive. Huggins reminds us to make good choices when driving or riding the highways…:

An apparent fit of road rage leads to murder in Bossier City. BCPD Lt. Bart Cavanagh says they’ve arrested a 23-year-old man for following a woman into a hospital parking lot Wednesday night, and shooting her several times. The victim is 65-year-old Cynthia Walker. The alleged shooter is Ramsey Akes. Cavanagh says they’re still investigating, but it certainly looks like road rage..:

Akes is being held pending $275-thousand bond.

Cops in Walker – in Livingston Parish -say they found a Nike brand tote bag and they hope to reunite it with the owner … and ask him or her why the bag contained over a hundred oxycodone tablets and nearly 50 grams of cocaine. Walker Police Captain John Sharp says it’s unlikely the bag’s owner will come forward, but stranger things HAVE happened…:

The Louisiana State Senate has created a special committee to examine the alleged use of excessive force by State Police. This comes after body cam video was released of two roadside beatings of black men that happened in 2019 in LSP Troop F. One of those left a man dead. The panel will meet in early December.

More than two dozen homes suffered damage when an EF-2 tornado ripped through an area south of Lake Charles early yesterday afternoon. The storm left two people with minor injuries. Governor John Bel Edwards surveyed the area this morning…:

Remember it’s been just a little over a year since Lake Charles was hit by two hurricanes.

A traffic accident Wednesday on Interstate 12 claims the life of the wife of Louisiana Oil and Gas Association founder Don Briggs. Briggs was sent to the hospital and is expected to recover. State Police Trooper Clay Huggins says it happened in Tangipahoa Parish, when Brigg’s SUV collided with a truck stopped in heavy traffic, then careened off the roadway and overturned…:

The sex crimes trial of former St. Tammany Sheriff Jack Strain went abruptly into recess when a witness for the prosecution – one of Strain’s alleged victims – had an emotional outburst. The witness called Strain a coward and said he should admit his crimes. Strain is accused of molesting several young men both before and during his time as sheriff.

A federal grand jury indicts a Ruston man for threatening a member of Congress. We only know that the object of 38-year-old Chase Levi Thibodeaux’s ire is a female U.S. House member, and threat was allegedly made on October 12th via social media. No trial date has been set. If convicted, Thibodeaux could face up to 5 years in federal lockup.

Calcasieu Parish was hit by probable tornadoes and straight line winds of up to 70 miles an hour – spawned in the strong thunderstorms that crossed the state earlier today. Numerous homes and some businesses suffered catastrophic damage and there are reports of people injured. So far no deaths have been reported. Calcasieu is still recovering from being hit by two hurricanes in 2020.

Louisiana businesses are welcoming news the Governor has lifted his statewide mask mandate amid declining COVID numbers. Dawn McVea is state director of the National Federation of Independent Business. She says member merchants and businesses have had a rough time of it these past several months…:

She says now her members can concentrate on a good holiday retail season.

 

We’re moving closer to kids ages 5 to 11 being vaccinated for the COVID virus. An FDA panel approved it; now the CDC will have to sign off on it and they most likely will. State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter says kids could be getting shots within a couple weeks. He suggests parents with concerns about that have a talk with their pediatrician…:

Right now kids between 5 and 17 make up over 20-percent of the state’s coronavirus cases.
