Pediatric doses of the Pfizer COVID vaccine are beginning to arrive in Louisiana for children five to eleven. State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter says by the end of next week the state should have received 148,000 doses.

The vaccine dose for this age group is a third of the adult dose and consists of two doses given twenty-one days apart.

Louisiana College in Pineville is changing its name to Louisiana Christian University. President Rick Brewer says the rebranding will help prospective students learn L-C-U is more than simply an undergraduate school…

A massive manhunt is underway in Shreveport after a woman walked into a home overnight and found three people shot to death including a 12-year-old. Authorities believe it’s a domestic incident and the suspect, who they have yet to identify, has a history of criminal violence. He’s considered armed and dangerous.

The Pelicans are now one and eight after losing to the Sacramento Kings 112 to 99 last night. New Orleans scored just 12 points in the fourth quarter as they played without Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, who has a hip contusion.

The 24th ranked Ragin Cajuns can win the Sun Belt West tonight for a fourth straight year with a win over Georgia State at Cajun Field in a game televised by ESPN at 6:30. U-L Lafayette is coming off an impressive 45-0 homecoming victory over Texas State and Coach Billy Napier says it was a great win last Saturday, but tonight is a new challenge

Shreveport Police are investigating an overnight triple homicide and a male suspect remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities say the suspect has a violent criminal history. KTBS-TV reports one of the victims is 12-years-old.

You hear a lot about supply chain issues. The National Federation of Independent Business has conducted a survey of its members and they’ve found that the supply chain disruptions are only getting worse…

Senator Bill Cassidy is among 14 Senate Republicans looking to block the payment of nearly a half-million dollars each to illegal immigrants who were separated from their families at the border when detained.

The team announced today that rookie Herb Jones will now be out an undetermined amount of time with a concussion. The Pels visit the Kings tonight.

State Police investigators say a man fatally shot by cops in Houma on Monday had a screwdriver in his hand. Trooper Ross Brennan says after officers arrived at the home to check on a disturbance, a man charged at them with a screwdriver…

The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Johnny MaGee of Houma. Brennan says Magee kept moving towards the responding officers and did not respond to commands to stop

Magee’s mother told New Orleans TV stations her son suffered from a mental illness and pleaded with the cops not to shoot him.  He died from his injuries at a nearby hospital. Brennan says the police shooting remains an active investigation…

In a few days, pediatric doses of the Pfizer COVID vaccine should be available to vaccine providers in Louisiana. On Tuesday the CDC approved the vaccine for 5- to 11-year-olds. State Health Officer Doctor Joe Kanter says the two-dose vaccine, given 21 days apart, is the same as the adult vaccine just a third of the dosage.

Kanter says children get infected with COVID at the same rate as adults if not more, but on average they haven’t gotten as sick as adults, so convincing parents to have their children vaccinated is going to be an uphill battle.

Kanter also noted there have been more than 200 cases of Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children and we are just now learning about Long-COVID.

Even with daily case counts below three hundred in Louisiana now, from October 21st through the 27th ages 5 to 17 made up the majority of new cases at 21-percent. Kanter says even though most children don’t get severely ill from COVID they can carry it home to a loved one who could be more susceptible.

Elections held in parts of the nation Tuesday were won mostly by Republicans, and that may not bode well for Democrats in next year’s mid-term elections. Louisiana Pollster John Couvillon on what likely drove the results in favor of GOP candidates.

In one of the most-watched races, Republican Glenn Youngkin defeated Democrat Terry McAuliffe in Virginia’s governor’s contest, becoming the first Republican to win a statewide office in the commonwealth since 2009.

Couvillon says Democrats should not be feeling good about next year’s mid-terms after last night’s election results that favored in large part GOP candidates.

Bad injury news for the Saints today as wide receiver Michael Thomas announces on Twitter he’ll miss the rest of the season as he’s had a setback in his effort to return from ankle surgery in June. Coach Sean Payton says the setback is surgically related and not because Thomas has not been doing his rehab.

A 21-year-old woman in Ascension Parish has helped produce a documentary that tells her story of trying to commit suicide as a 16-year-old. The suicide attempt with a gun has left Emma Benoit paralyzed. She wanted to tell her story so that other teenagers do not do what she did..

The CDC has given approval for the Pfizer COVID vaccine to be given to children between the ages of five and 11 years old. The state health department says it will provide formal guidance on administering the vaccine to younger kids later today.

Meanwhile, some state lawmakers warn school officials they do not have the authority to mandate the vaccine for children between five and 11 years old….

Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says he expects insurance premiums will rise 10-to-12-percent next year as a result of the destruction left behind by Hurricanes Ida and Laura. Donelon says these have been trying times for all, including the insurers…

Donelon says homeowners insurance rates have increased statewide this year by an average of four percent.
