According to JMC Analytics and Polling, Republicans have a plurality over Democrats for the first time when it comes to the number of active registered voters. 958-thousand Republican active voters to 920-thousand active voters for Democrats. Pollster John Couvillon says month after month, Democrats keep losing registered voters.

U-S Senator John Kennedy says the only way to put a stop to the Russian-Ukraine war is to keep Russia from selling oil to countries like China. Kennedy says he believes Ukraine is willing to negotiate a reasonable deal, but Russian President Vladimir Putin is not interested in a settlement until he decides its in his best interest to stop the war…

The Seattle Mariners used the third overall pick in last night’s Major League Baseball Draft to select LSU left-hander pitcher Kade Anderson. The Astros selected Rosepine’s Ethan Frey in the third round and he’s not expected to return to LSU for his senior season.

For the first time, the number of active registered Republican voters in Louisiana exceeds the number of active registered Democratic voters. John Couvillon (KOO-vee-ahn) with JMC Analytics and Polling, says when examining the total number of registered voters, Democrats still outnumber Republicans in the state. However, when you remove those who haven’t voted in the last two federal elections, that changes things.

Couvillon says it will take a while for Republicans to overtake Democrats in the number of registered voters in Louisiana, since there are many more inactive Democrats on the voter rolls.

SEC Football Media Days kick off in Atlanta with LSU, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. Tigers coach Brian Kelly will be joined by quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, linebacker Whit Weeks and wide receiver Chris Hilton. Locked On SEC Podcast host Chris Gordy says Nussmeier could be the next great year two LSU quarterback.

11 of the 16 SEC schools will be bringing their quarterbacks to Atlanta. Florida sophomore DJ Lagway is sure to be a headliner, but no name will be bigger than Texas’s Arch Manning. Gordy says Arch Mania is in full effect.

One of the stories of the offseason sure to be discussed is future formatting for the College Football Playoffs. Expansion from 12 to 16 teams is almost certain, but the Big Ten and SEC have debated whether their conferences should receive multiple auto-bids. Gordy says four SEC teams would likely make the playoffs each year anyway.

Kennedy says President Trump is trying to negotiate the peace, but he’s hoping he’ll throw his support behind a bill that will cut off Putin’s cash flow.

It was thought to have been eradicated a quarter century ago; but apparently, measles is back with a vengeance. Dr. Fred Lopez, a professor of medical education at the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, says the number of measles cases across the country is staggering.

Cut 13 (12)  “…was declared eliminated.” (1,288 as of mid-week last week)

In fact, the previous high since then was 1,282 cases – and we still have almost half the year to go. Louisiana is among the 38 states with confirmed cases. Dr. Lopez says your very best defense against the highly contagious and deadly disease is to get vaccinated.

Lopez says if the vaccines don’t prevent you from getting measles, they will at least keep symptoms down to a minimum.

Leaders from Sun Belt schools are expected to vote today to invite Louisiana Tech into the league as the 14th member of the conference. Tech would replace Texas State, who just left for the PAC-12. School’s in Sun Belt’s western division have supported the move from the beginning, but schools in the East Division were not thrilled with having three schools from Louisiana in the Sun Belt. But Schultz says Tech is the obvious choice to replace Texas State because of geography…

It didn’t go as excaclty as planned, but LSU left-hander Kade Anderson is still excited about the team that drafted him. The Washington Nationals and the Los Angeles Angles both passed on the D-1 baseball National College Pitcher of the Year, which allowed the Mariners to grab Anderson with the third overall pick. Seattle’s V-P of Amateur Scouting Scott Hunter. says they are thrilled Anderson dropped to them…

Anderson was the Most Outstanding Player of the 2025 College World Series. He was 12-1 during his sophomore season with a 3.18 ERA and he led the nation in strikeouts with 180 in 119 innings. The lefty celebrated the moment with his family in Madisonville…

After an up and down freshman season, Anderson flourised his sophomore campaign under the tutelage of pitching coach Nate Yeskie.

Most of the mock drafts had the Nationals selecting Anderson with the number one overall pick. Instead, Washington took 17-year-old Eli Willits from Oklahoma. Anderson says the only team to visit him in Louisiana was Seattle and he had a great visit with Seattle’s Assistant General Manager Andy McKay…

An outspoken GOP lawmaker in north Louisiana says Republican Governor Jeff Landry has been a huge disappointment. Shreveport Senator Alan Seabaugh made that statement on KEEL Radio. A rift between Landry and Seabaugh has been growing since last year, and Seabaugh says it got more personal after the governor used his line-item veto power to scrap funding for four projects in his district.

Landry recently criticized Seabaugh for not being present for a committee vote on a bill to reign in lawyer advertising.

A survey paid for by the state shows Louisiana’s Menhaden Industry is not killing as many red fish as feared. Golden Meadow Representative Joe Orgeron says the study was conducted to see if there was a high mortality rate of red fish entangled in menhaden nets…

One of the biggest questions surrounding the tax and spending bill that President Trump signed last week is what will happen to rural hospitals….

Just over a week ago, we reported that Governor Jeff Landry issued 17-line item vetoes from two separate funding bills and 16 of the line item vetoes targeted Republican lawmakers who voted against an insurance reform bill supported by the governor. Shreveport Senator Alan Seabaugh had funding from four projects taken away from him. He says one of them would have made it safer to enter and exit Parkway High School in Bossier City…

There’s a lot of debate over the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which is President Trump’s legislation that funds many sought after Republican priorities. The controversial bill also removes a cap on the amount of money Louisiana receives in offshore oil and gas revenue.

Neal McMillan, director of federal affairs of the Louisiana Department of Energy and Natural Resources says the removal of the cap means more coastal restoration dollars.

The MLB Draft begins Sunday night, and three LSU pitchers are hoping to hear their names called early. Kace Kieschnick has more.

A proposed new sports and entertainment arena for LSU is in jeopardy after the CEO of a firm that was the sole finalist to develop the project was indicted for allegedly rigging the bid process for a similar facility built at the University of Texas. LSU says its weighing how the criminal charges could affect the Baton Rouge project.

The nation’s number one high school football recruit according to ESPN, University High lineman, Lamar Brown, is staying home to play for LSU. Texas A&M was also pushing hard for a verbal pledge from Brown, but the Erwinville native chose the Tigers during an announcement aired live on ESPN Two…

LSU also received a verbal pledge from three-star edge rusher DeAnthony Lafayette from Orlando. Lafayette chose LSU over Oklahoma and Miami.

The Pelicans have reportedly signed fan favorite Herb Jones to a 68-million dollar extension that would keep him in New Orleans through 2029.

LSU baseball star Ethan Frey has a big decision looming. He’s expected to be selected in the first four rounds of the Major League Baseball Draft which begins Sunday. Frey could return for his senior season at LSU or go pro. D-1 Baseball’s Aaron Fitt believes Frey has played his last game at LSU…

One of the biggest conversations coming out of the tax cuts and spending bill that President Trump just signed is the fate of rural hospitals. Democrats in Louisiana say 33 rural hospitals across the state will close because of cuts to Medicaid. During a press conference at Louisiana Democratic Party headquarters, Rustin Loyd, a nurse from Hammond and a former hospital administrator, says those closures will cost lives.

But Mark Ballard, who covered the hearings on Capitol Hill for The Advocate, told Jim Engster on Talk Louisiana that one important thing to note is that the Medicaid cuts don’t happen for another two to three years, and hospitals and medical providers are confident that they can get Congress to reconsider those cuts before they take effect.

The presale for tickets will begin next Tuesday and tickets for the general public will be available a week from Friday.

 

The FEMA Review Council met in New Orleans yesterday. Governor Jeff Landry says It’s a panel set up by President Trump to create an agency that prioritizes efficiency over bureaucracy when a natural disaster strikes. Landry says there’s way too much red tape involved with FEMA when it comes to distributing recovery dollars

A long overdue honor for a Louisiana military hero who was killed in action more than eight decades ago. Marine Private First Class Harry LeBert was killed in June of 1944 during World War Two. However, Louisiana V-A Secretary Charlton Meginley says his remains went unidentified for many years.

LeBert’s remains were transferred to the Philippines in the 1950s; and three years ago, they were transferred again to Hawaii, where forensic scientists conducted DNA testing. With 95-percent of LeBert’s remains intact, that helped scientists conclusively put LeBert’s name with the body.
