State Police has announced the arrest of 50-year-old Alison Doyle. She’s the wife of Oakdale police chief  Chad Dolye, who is allegedly involved in a visa scheme. Alison Doyle is accused of unethical conduct in the municipal property bidding process and has been charged with two counts of malfeasance in office.

 

The president of Lafourche Parish is moving on to become the head of the newly-created Office of Louisiana Highway Construction. Archie Chiasson will be moving into his new role August 4th. Chiasson says he’s excited to lead the new effort to improve highway construction.

Chiasson will step down as Lafourche Parish president after five and a half years at the helm – during which time he led the parish during some trying times, including Hurricane Ida in 2021.

He says a combination of the two, such as one year of law enforcement experience and 30 semester hours of college credit is also acceptable. Three years of continuous active duty military service will also qualify. The application deadline is August 18th.

At a press conference this morning, Foltz was praised for her compassion and resilience. She reassured the girls as helicopters circled overhead.

She says she and her fellow counselors made sure their campers were calm and comfortable.

Senator Bill Cassidy was on hand at the White House as President Trump signed the Halt Fentanyl Act into law. Cassidy says the new law gives law enforcement another tool to combat the fentanyl crisis.

Four law enforcement officers including former and current police chiefs have been arrested. They’re accused of accepting money to fabricate police reports so some foreign nationals could obtain U-Visas. FBI Special Agent Jonathan Tapp says law enforcement officers must hold themselves to a higher standard, and those indicted in this fraud scheme failed to do so.

The officers are facing fraud and conspiracy charges.

A State Police Trooper is recovering from serious injuries after he was hit by a vehicle while investigating a prior crash. L-S-P says the officer is in stable condition after he was struck by a vehicle in Opelousas on Louisiana Highway 190 at the intersection with Louisiana Highway 104 in St. Landry Parish.

It’s unknown when Tech will make the jump from Conference USA to the Sun Belt. Since missing the May 1st deadline to leave Conference USA next season, officials are negotiating a departure date for the 2026 or 2027 football season.

The Southern Jaguars have been picked to win the SWAC western division. Receiver Darren Morris says now they have to show they are number one. Grambling is picked to finish 5th.

 

LSU has made some moves in the transfer portal following the MLB Draft. Oregon State third baseman Trent Caraway went undrafted as a top 150 prospect. Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball says Caraway was a big-name recruit who struggled during the regular season.

Florida quarterback DJ Lagway stole the show at SEC Media Days yesterday. The sophomore went 6-and-1 as a starter last year. He recalled the Gators’ win over LSU last season in a week he struggled with injury.

Even though Manning has started just two games for the Texas Longhorns, there’s a belief he will lead the Longhorns to a national championship and he’ll be a Heisman contender. It’s a big day for Louisiana Tech as the Bulldogs will hold a press conference at 3 PM today to discuss joining the Sun Belt. The Bulldogs will owe Conference USA at least five-million dollars to leave the league. They can depart for the Sun Belt as soon as 2026 and were invited to join no later than July of 2027. KNOE-TV Sports Director Aaron Dietrich hopes things will move quickly.

Paul Skenes started for the National League last night in the Major League Baseball All-Star game and struck out the first two hitters he faced and then got Aaron Judge to ground out in his only inning of work. The National League ended up winning in the first ever swing off, a mini home run derby, because the game was tied at 6.

LSU baseball players, Chris Stanfield, Zac Cowan and Tanner Reaves all say they are returning next season.

The National Hurricane Center says there is a medium chance for a tropical depression to form near Louisiana’s southeast coast later this week. LSU Public Health Climatologist Barry Keim says regardless of development, significant rainfall totals are expected…

The rainfall will reach coastal parishes of southeast Louisiana on Wednesday. Keim says Thursday and Friday are the days we could see several inches of rain fall for a good portion of south Louisiana.

Southeast Louisiana is under a flood watch from tomorrow afternoon through late Friday night.

The disorganized system will cross the Florida peninsula today and enter the northeastern Gulf of Mexico by tomorrow. Keim says its ability to organize into a named storm will depend on how long the center of the storm stays over water before making landfall along the northern Gulf coast. He says they are not expecting this system to develop into a hurricane…

The EPA has approved two State Implementation Plans that will reduce sulfur dioxide emissions. The first addresses emissions at Cabot Corporation’s Ville Platte carbon black plant. State Department of Environmental Quality administrator Jason Meyers says the plant is redesigning and reconstructing a large portion of the plant to bring Evangeline Parish into compliance with EPA standards.

Cut 6 (08) “…90-plus percent.”

Meyers says the submitted plan proves the area will reach attainment with EPA standards, leaving just one non-attainment area in Louisiana- St. Bernard Parish. Meyers says work has been underway there as well, and a plan should be ready soon.

The second plan is one Meyers called an “infrastructure SIP.” He says it’s a necessary first step when an EPA standard changes.

The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission has a stern message for all you kamikaze drivers out there – chill out and slow down! It’s part of a month-long national campaign aimed at reminding drivers that speeding has deadly consequences. Greg Fischer with the LHSC says in 2023, speeding was a factor in almost 29-percent of all fatal crashes nationwide.

Most people think that the majority of speeding-related fatal crashes occur on the Interstates, but Fischer says that’s not correct – in 2023, 83-percent of them in Louisiana happened on non-Interstate roadways. Fischer says chilling out and slowing down doesn’t mean driving at a snail’s pace, either.

Fischer says the biggest point that they want to drive home through this campaign is that a car is not a toy – it is to be operated safely and responsibly.

LSU is expecting the return of some key contributors on both sides of the ball from injury. Linebacker Whit Weeks suffered a broken fibula and dislocated ankle in the Tigers’ New Year’s Eve bowl game versus Baylor. At SEC Media Days yesterday, he said he’d be good to go for camp.

Weeks’ linebacking partner, Harold Perkins, suffered a season-ending ACL injury against UCLA in week four. After a true freshman All-American season in 2022, Perkins has struggled with position changes and now injury. Head coach Brian Kelly says Perkins could have gone to the NFL Draft.

Kelly confirmed Perkins would be ready for the start of camp back at his old position of outside linebacker.

Wide Receiver Chris Hilton has been plagued by injuries at LSU. He missed the first seven games of last season and totaled only nine receptions for 243 yards and three touchdowns. Hilton has always been a big play threat, but quarterback Garrett Nussmeier says he’s improved as he’s gotten healthier.

Southeast Louisiana is under a flood watch from tomorrow afternoon through late Friday night.

There’s concern about rural hospitals in the wake of the passage of the tax and spending bill in Congress. But Jeff Reynolds, the executive director of the Louisiana Rural Hospital Coalition, says none are in danger of closing because the cuts don’t kick in right away.

Reynolds says nearly all rural hospitals in the state are in good financial health currently.

After Shreveport Republican Senator Alan Seabaugh ripped Governor Landry on KEEL radio last week, the governor went on its morning show to give his response. Seabaugh especially had some choice words over Landry using his line-item veto power to scrap four of his projects. Landry says there simply wasn’t enough money for all the projects the legislature gave him.

The governor has also announced that the Louisiana National Guard Training Center in Pineville will go back to being called Camp Beauregard. The installation’s name was changed in 2022, because the facility was named after a Confederate General. Now the training center will be named after Captain Jacques Toutant Beauregard, a member of the Louisiana Milita who fought in the 1815 Battle of New Orleans.
