Legislation that would prohibit some juvenile offenders from possessing firearms until they are 24 years old is nearing final legislative passage. It passed in the House on a 59-39 vote. Kenner Representative Debbie Villio told the House that Florida has a similar law, but Gretna Representative Joe Marino believes the bill is unconstitutional….

Governor Edwards has vetoed a Senate bill that would have allowed payday lenders to offer 15-hundred installment loans, but the person receiving the loan could face up to 15-hundred dollars in fees and interest. Edwards says he opposes payday loan products that keep vulnerable individuals in debt by paying higher interest rates that are available at commercial banks.

The person killed in yesterday’s shooting has been identified as 80-year-old Augustine Greenwood. A mother of six and grandmother of 15 children. Governor John Bel Edwards says Louisiana must do more to ensure those who pose an unacceptable risk of harm to others are not able to acquire or keep firearms.

The Senate Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Committee will hear legislation today that would allow non-felon adults to conceal carry a gun without a permit or the training that’s currently needed to obtain a permit. It’s the second time a Senate committee is hearing the bill and political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says with the session set to end Monday, a second hearing could be an attempt to prevent the bill from passing…

A judge has sentenced 29-year-old Tre’Veon Demarcus Anderson of Shreveport to life in prison for killing Shreveport police officer Chateri Payne in January of 2019. Anderson was found guilty of planning and executing the murder of Officer Payne as she was getting ready to go to work. Their two-year-old child was inside the home at the time.

The Louisiana Economic Activity Forecast for the second quarter of 2022 has reduced the projected number of jobs the state was expected to add by 40-percent. University of Louisiana at Lafayette economist Gary Wagner says the latest forecast now has the state adding 21-thousand jobs over the next year…

A garbage handler in Jefferson Parish lost his leg after a vehicle crashed into the garbage truck, pinning his leg between the two vehicles. State Police says the driver of the vehicle that hit the garbage truck admitted to texting while driving. Legislation to prohibit drivers from using their handheld cell phone while driving was defeated in a Senate committee last week.

Tomorrow begins another hurricane season and there are still roughly 400 households, representing about 12-hundred people, in Terrebonne Parish awaiting FEMA trailers. Parish Planning and Zoning Director Christopher Pulaski says people are frustrated…
