NOLA-dot-com reports the Former state senator and chairwoman of the Louisiana Democratic Party Karen Carter Peterson will plead guilty to federal charges associated to gambling with campaign funds and money that belonged to the Louisiana Democratic Party. Peterson resigned from the Senate in April to focus on her recovery from gambling addiction.

Peterson resigned from the Louisiana Senate in April for what she called personal reasons.

Former broadcaster and lawmaker Ron Gomez has passed way at the age of 87. Gomez owned radio stations, was the voice of the Ragin Cajuns from 1961 to 1979 and while serving in the state legislature in the 1980s he convinced lawmakers to use state dollars to build the Cajundome in Lafayette

The Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year Paxton Kling has removed his name from the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft so he can play baseball at LSU. Kling committed to LSU in 2019 and during his senior season he hit .585 with five home runs and 33 steals. He is rated as the 104th best prospect in M-L-B’s draft rankings.

La Tech football has received commitments from a pair of south Louisiana offensive linemen St. Aug’s Troy Smith and Woodlawn of Baton Rouge’s Roy Brackins.

The Southland Conference has released an updated football schedule that includes U-I-W and Lamar. The two Texas schools planned to play in the WAC this season, but recently decided they’ll compete in the Southland instead. U-I-W won the Southland last season and they’ll begin the conference play by visiting Southeastern on September 24th. That weekend Northwestern State will host Lamar.

The Pelicans defeated the Washington Wizards 106-88 in NBA Summer League Action last night. Jared Harper who played in the G-League last season, had 18 and six assists while undrafted Daeqwon Plowden had 16 points in 22 minutes. New Orleans is 2-1 in Las Vegas and will play Los Angeles tomorrow night.

The original “Voice of the Cajuns” Ron Gomez has passed away at the age of 87. Gomez called games for the Cajuns from 1961 to 1979 and then went into the state legislature and got behind legislation that led to the construction of the Cajundome.

Drew Brees is reportedly talking with Amazon to be part of an alternate broadcast for its slate of Thursday night games. Brees spent one season with NBC working Notre Dame games and serving as a studio analyst for NBC’s Sunday Night Football. According to NOLA-dot-com, Brees would be one of multiple former NFL quarterbacks part of a megacast for Thursday night games.

LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson got some good news today as signee Paxton Kling announced he’s removing his name from the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft which means he’s heading to Baton Rouge to play for the Purple ad Gold. The outfielder is the Gatorade Player of the Year in Pennsylvania and considered a Top 50 MLB Prospect.

The state health department is reporting two new cases of monkeypox infection in Louisiana. Both of the infected individuals are from the New Orleans area and this brings the total number of monkeypox cases to three. State Health officer Doctor Joe Kanter on the symptoms of monkeypox

State Police in Troop I report a child riding without proper restraints was killed Monday in a single-vehicle crash on state Highway 91 in Acadia Parish. Trooper First Class Thomas Gossen says a pickup driven by 44-year-old Carla Lacombe, of Eunice, lost control and went into a spin and overturned, after hitting a culvert…:

Trooper Gossen says 8-year-old Macy Guidry was riding in the front seat of the crew cab pickup, and was not wearing seatbelt or in a booster seat. She was ejected from the vehicle and did not survive. He says an investigation of the crash is underway, and there may be charges for the driver…:

Gossen says troopers do not suspect impairment in the crash, but haven’t ruled out distracted driving. He says Lacombe and a teen passenger in the rear seat were wearing restraints, and were treated for minor injuries. Gossen says seatbelts reduce one’s chances of being ejected from a vehicle by well over 50-percent. He says wearing a belt, and being in the back seat, would have saved the girl’s life…:

Police in Houma say a local woman and her boyfriend are facing first degree murder charges, after officers found the remains of her 2-year-old son in a trash can. Houma Police Chief Dana Coleman says the couple initially said the child was abducted, but evidence collected implicates them…:

The state’s trigger laws that bans abortions have once again been blocked. Baton Rouge Judge Don Johnson issued a temporary restraining order, which means abortions can resume for now. Judge Johnson will hold a hearing for Monday to determine if he should grant a preliminary injunction until a trial can be held on the constitutionality of the trigger laws.

Police say a Houma mother and her live-in boyfriend are facing charges relative to first degree murder after a two-year-old child was found dead in a trash can. Maya Jones told detectives Ezekiel Harry was abducted, but her story eventually fell apart and Ezekiel’s body was found a block away from the police department. Jones and 37-year-old Jeremaine Robinson are in custody.

The Louisiana Department of Health has identified two more monkeypox cases bringing the total to three in this state. The two new cases are individuals in the greater New Orleans area. State Epidemiologist Doctor Theresa Sokol says monkeypox is less transmissible than COVID and physical contact is usually needed…
