LSU football coach Brian Kelly says starting quarterback Jayden Daniels is experiencing no residual effects from the hard hit he took in the third quarter during Saturday’s shutout win over New Mexico. Daniels left the game with what was called a lower back strain.

Senior Safety Joe Foucha will make his debut in Saturday’s Auburn game. The transfer from Arkansas was suspended the first four games due to academic issues. Kelly says Foucha has been practicing with the team during his suspension and should fit in well…

The Pelicans begin training camp today and Zion Williamson will be a full go after missing all of last season with a foot injury. New Orleans made the postseason last year as the addition of C-J McCollum in February helped the Pels get into the play-in tournament and advance into the Western Conference playoffs. Williamson says this year they want to make a deep run in the postseason…

LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey declined to comment about jailed women’s basketball star Britney Griner during a press conference with reporters prior to the team’s first practice of the season. Griner played for Mulkey at Baylor University and the two won two national championships together. Griner is serving a nine-year sentence in Russia for drug possession.

There is now a blood test that can detect cancer without symptoms. The new health advancement became available in the U.S. a year ago. Internal medical physician Dr. David Meyers in Metairie says the test is unable to identify brain or skin cancer, but can pick up on many aggressive forms of cancer.

Meyers says the test is good at finding early stages of Melanoma, pancreatic, bile duct and ovarian cancers. It costs about 950-dollars and in order to get one, a doctor must approve it.

A federal judge will not block Louisiana’s plan to move about two-dozen troubled juvenile offenders from Bridge City Center for Youth in Jefferson Parish to the State Penitentiary at Angola. Civil rights attorneys and the parents of the children say teenagers should not be sent to Angola, but legal analyst Dane Ciolino says the state made a convincing argument to Judge Shelly Dick

The state is looking to reduce the population at the Bridge City Center because of numerous escapes and fights at the facility. Ciolino says housing juvenile offenders at Angola brings concerns, but Judge Dick agreed the state has to do something about the violence inside the Bridge City Center for Youth…

The Edwards administration has said the transfer to of juvenile inmates to Angola is only temporary, until renovations are completed at the Jetson Center for Youth in East Baton Rouge Parish. Ciolino says Judge Dick took that into account in her ruling…

Hurricane Ian is in the Caribbean nearing Cuba and heading towards Florida as a Category 1 hurricane. Ben Schott with NOAA says its path shows some uncertainty, but not enough to concern us in Louisiana.

Depending on where it hits, Ian is forecast to hit somewhere in Florida as early as Wednesday night as a major hurricane. Schott says one of the biggest concerns for Florida is possible storm surges in Tampa Bay. The current forecast has the eye hitting right where the Florida peninsula meets the panhandle.

Schott says the biggest impact for south Louisiana should be breezy conditions and for southeast Louisiana….

Louisiana will have great weather this week as it will be dry with high temperatures in the low to mid 80s after a cold front moves through the state today.

Houma police say a woman who threw her infant son off a bridge Friday is now being held on attempted murder charges. Lt. Travis Theriot says when officers arrived at the Liberty Street Bridge around 5 PM they learned that 30-year Asha Randolph threw her 18-month-old child off the bridge into Bayou Terrebonne.

Theriot says the child was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery. The incident remains under investigation and a motive has not been determined.

According to witnesses, Theriot says shortly after Randolph threw her child over, she entered the water herself to recover the child. He says the outcome could have been much different if those eyewitnesses had not called 9-1-1.

In addition to attempted first-degree murder, Randolph also faces child desertion and obstruction of justice charges.

Entergy Louisiana has been approved by the state Public Service Commission to purchase power from four Louisiana solar “farms” that are in the planning and construction stages. Entergy President Phillip May says expanding into green energy sources helps fulfill a growing demand for cleaner electricity while lowering dependence on fossil fuels to generate power.

Entergy will purchase 475 megawatts of power from plants in St. James, Washington, and Allen parishes. The PSC also approved Entergy’s “Geaux Green” option; creating a new green energy tariff.

Most of the solar farm sites are expected to begin producing power by early 2024. Entergy will buy their electricity under 20-year agreements. May says it’s a big step forward for Entergy in moving to newer, cleaner energy sources.

Former Lafayette Christian Academy star Zachary Clement made his first start of the season on Saturday and helped Northwestern State gets its first win. Clement threw for a career-high 366 yards and three touchdowns in the Demons 35-27 win over Lamar.

State Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley is proposing 30 hours of summer school for k-4th graders who are not reading at grade level. Brumley says many students lost valuable in-classroom instruction during the pandemic and may need to catch up.

The House Ways and Means Committee plans to meet every couple of weeks to discuss eliminating the state’s income tax. But Campbell is skeptical state leaders will have the courage to make such a bold move…

Earlier this morning, Ian strengthened into a hurricane and it could be a major hurricane before hitting the western side of Cuba. Once it reaches the Gulf, Ian is expected to strengthen into a Category Four hurricane before making a second landfall north of Tampa Thursday night or Friday morning.

Southeastern Louisiana took down fourth ranked U-I-W 41-35 in the Southland Conference opener for both teams on Saturday night at Strawberry Stadium. It’s the highest ranked opponent S-L-U has defeated since beating fourth ranked Sam Houston in 2013.

Northwestern State and McNeese won their first games of the season on Saturday, while Nicholls remains winless as they were blown out by Jacksonville State 52-21.

The Bridge City Center for Youth has seen numerous escapes and fights and the state says in order to make the facility safer, they need to send some of the young offenders to Angola.

Lucille Fremin Babineaux, the mother of former Governor Kathleen Blanco, will be laid to rest today in New Iberia. Babineaux died last week at the age of 102. She was the matriarch of 105 people as she and her late husband, Louis, had seven children. One of her granddaughters, Monique Boulet, says she was with the former governor all the time in her final days as she battled cancer in 2019…
