Rural areas of the state are expected to continue to see a decline in jobs, but an economist says some sectors will see growth. Brooke Thorington explains.

The Louisiana Legislative Auditor says Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins has failed to properly document his travel expenses. The auditor says Perkins billed the city for 35-thousand dollars for 23 trips from 2019 to 2021 and in 16 of those trips the auditor questioned 32-hundred dollars in expenses.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has made a positive ID on a badly decomposed and dismembered body found in rural St. Tammany Parish in 2016. It’s Keanthis Konstantinidis as Lt. Adam Rudolph says they suspect Phillip Pointer killed Konstantinidis, because his foot was found on his property after Pointer died in 2019. Rudolph says now that they’ve identified Konstantinidis, they’ll investigate to see if anyone else was involved in his murder…

He says they would also like to know if Konstantindis’ died in St. Tammany or Biloxi.

The wet summer and dry fall is frustrating many rice and crawfish farmers. Rice producers experienced very wet conditions during harvest in July and August. LSU AgCenter Rice specialist Doctor Ronnie Levy says this prevented farmers from harvesting rice on time..

Levy says a lot of rice farmers also have crawfish ponds on their property. He says the dry weather we are seeing now, will only increase the cost to harvest mudbugs next year.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has made a positive identification on a decomposing, dismembered body found near near the Rigolets (Rig-o-leez) on Highway 90 in July of 2016. Lt. Adam Rudolph says they knew Kleanthis Konstantinidis (Kle-anthis Kon-stan-ti-ni-dis) was a homicide victim, but didn’t know the circumstances around his murder…

Rudolph says they’ve established Phillip Pointer as the primary suspect in Konstantindis’ death. Konstantinidis foot was located in a bucket on Pointer’s property in 2019 after he died.

We are a few months away from crawfish season, but this dry fall is not helping crawfish farmers who need water for their ponds. LSU AgCenter Rice specialist Doctor Ronnie Levy says producers have to pump water into their crawfish ponds, which is costly…

The Saints needed someone to step up to end their three-game losing streak and Taysom Hill turned out to be that guy as he ran for three rushing touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass to Adam Trautman. It was a breakout game for the Saints offense after scoring only 49 points during a three-game losing streak. Hill led a rushing attack that produced 235 yards

It was also a big game for Alvin Kamara, who had 6 catches for 91 yards. He also rushed for 103 yards.

In other NFC South news….the Buccaneers beat the Falcons 21-15 and the Panthers lost to the 49ers 37-15. Today Carolina fired head coach Matt Rhule as he went 11 and 27 in three seasons in Charlotte.

Tennessee moved up to number six in the latest A-P Top 25 poll after convincing 40-13 victory over the LSU Tigers. The Bayou Bengals played the game without starting left tackle Will Campbell, who watched the contest from a hospital bed. The school says Campbell had to be hospitalized because he was dehydrated. Coach Brian Kelly didn’t add much more information…

Hopefully, Campbell will be ready for this Saturday’s game in the swamp as LSU visits unranked Florida this Saturday for a 6 PM kick-off.

Louisiana Tech is off to a 1-0 start in Conference USA Play as the Bulldogs defeated UTEP 41-31. Good game for Bulldogs quarterback Parker McNeil who threw for 266 yards and four touchdowns and McNeil is the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Offensive player of the week. This Saturday the Bulldogs are at North Texas. The Mean Green are off to a 2-0 start in Conference USA Play after beating Florida Atlantic 45-28 on October 1st.

For the first time in the Louisiana Lottery’s 31-year history, a $20 scratch-off game is part of a multiplier-themed family of games. Louisiana Lottery spokesperson Dustin Annison says the new option goes on sale today they‘re called 5X, 10X, 20X, 50X, and 100X and they sell respectively for one, two, five, ten, and twenty dollars

The odds of winning the top prize are about one in 390-thousand.

Annison says other lotteries across the country have had huge success with higher-priced scratch-off games with twenty, thirty, fifty, and even $100 tickets.

The $20 ticket will be the same size as the $10 ticket and Annison says they offer a 73% payout and more chances to win on the ticket.

Louisiana has received $270 million in federal cash to repair local bridges. The money comes from the bipartisan Infrastructure Law.  The Department of Transportation closed 25 of them last year and 31 so far this year. Most are in rural areas. Department of Transportation spokesperson Rodney Mallet says bridges that are too weak to carry full loads are already causing headaches.

Louisiana has more than 4,700 bridges that are owned by local governments, instead of the state. Mallett says 747 of them need to be repaired or replaced. He says the state will send the money to the parishes to use on their most urgent needs.

Mallett says all 64 of Louisiana’s parishes have bridges that need help. He says this is also a nationwide problem.

President Biden pardoned thousands of persons convicted of federal marijuana possession last week, and challenged state governors to follow suit. It took no time for Governor John Bel Edwards to be asked the question, and he says Mr. Biden made the right call…:

Edwards says many states are reforming marijuana laws; decriminalizing and even making it legal altogether. However, he says he does not have sole authority to write pardons. Louisiana has a process to follow…:

Edwards says marijuana convictions shouldn’t impede one’s access to employment, housing or education. He says he will consider any such pardons that reach his desk, but it would be up to state lawmakers to assure fewer people get jail sentences for possessing marijuana…:

Eighth-ranked Tennessee’s decisive 40-13 win over LSU on Saturday showed the Tigers are far from being a top-ten team. The Volunteers had 502 yards of total offense,  sacked LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels five times, and held the Bayou Bengals to 55 yards rushing. A match-up of two teams in the Top 25 is set for an 11 AM kick-off in Tiger Stadium on Saturday as 25th ranked LSU hosts 8th ranked Tennessee. Tigers Coach Brian Kelly wants to see quarterback Jayden Daniels be more aggressive in pushing the ball down field. Daniels says he wants to give his wide receivers a chance to make plays….

LSU is averaging 36 points a game, but might need to score a few more than that as Tennessee is averaging almost 49 points a game.

ULM is only averaging 20 points a game as they get set to host Coastal Carolina at 7 PM. An hour earlier over in Ruston, Louisiana Tech kicks-off Conference USA Play by hosting UTEP. Grambling is on the road again as the Tigers are at Alabama A-and-M for a 1 PM kick-off.

Saints Coach Dennis Allen says they plan on starting Andy Dalton again at quarterback when New Orleans hosts Seattle on Sunday. Jameis Winston will miss his second straight game with back and ankle injuries. Allen says Winston is feeling better, but he’s doubtful for Sunday’s game…

And wide receiver Michael Thomas will miss his second straight game because of a foot injury.

The state’s Wildlife and Fisheries Commission is proposing to limit the daily catch of speckled trout from 25 to 15 fish per angler. A regulation that could go into effect next year. Biologists say the speckled trout is losing some of their habitats due to coastal erosion and rising sea levels. The host Let’s Go Fishing Kevin Ford says the speckled trout population is not the only one in trouble.

For those traveling this weekend, they might be a little stunned by the price at the pump. Gas prices are quickly rising. According to Triple-A, the statewide average for a gallon of regular gasoline in Louisiana is up to $3.25, a 15-cent increase in the last week. Crude prices have increased this week since the announcement by OPEC plus that they are cutting crude production by two million barrels a day this fall.

U.S. Republican Senators have released a PSA warning about the dangers of Rainbow Fentanyl ahead of the Halloween season. Executive Director of the Louisiana Addiction Research Center at LSU Health Shreveport Nick Goeders says the Drug Enforcement Administration has found this rainbow fentanyl in 21 states since February…

It was almost five-decades ago when Festival President Chris Loupe’s father started the event after then-Governor Edwin Edwards offered matching funds for fall festivals.

Authorities in northeast Louisiana are searching for three juveniles who escaped last night from the Green Oaks Detention Center for Youth. The Monroe Police Department says 15-year-old DeMarcus Haynes, 17-year-old Isszavion Webb and 16-year-old Dallas Wesley fled the facility in an unknown direction.

We’re about a month away from the November eighth federal election and the one Congressional race that appears to be competitive is the third district, where Republican Incumbent Clay Higgins is facing a challenge from Lafayette prosecutor Holden Hoggatt. Pollster John Couvillon says Higgins is potentially vulnerable because of perceptions he wasn’t aggressive in seeking hurricane relief funds.

Higgins released a statement in late August that said his office has helped deliver over three-point-five billion dollars in response to Hurricanes Laura and Delta.
