The Tax Foundation’s midyear report shows Louisiana has fallen from its spot as the highest average combined state and local sales tax rate. The state’s 9.547 percent average comes in just one-one-thousandth of a percent behind Tennessee’s. Vice President of State Projects with the Tax Foundation Jared Walczak says the two states have been neck and neck since Louisiana’s 2018 sales tax cut…

The Bayou state is expected to see its first sales tax cut since 2018 as a temporary 0.45% portion of the state sales tax is set to expire in July of 2025. Louisan currently ranks 37th in the nation with a 4.45% sales tax. Walczak says the reduction will be significant but not enough to bring Louisiana out of the top 5 combined averages in the nation…

Walczak commended legislators’ recent efforts to modernize the states antiquated tax system. Louisiana’s complex local sales tax collection system is a nightmare for businesses to navigate and while he says it may be better for the economy than some alternatives, rates are still too high…

A Louisiana pollster conducted a nationwide survey that finds that if the Republican Presidential primary was held today, 53-percent  say they would vote former President Donald Trump. Trump beat out nine other candidates listed in the poll of 11-hundred Republican voters. John Couvillon of JMC Analytics conducted the poll…

Fourteen Republican candidates have announced they are running for the party’s presidential nomination next year. Couvillon says in order for one of these candidates to gain ground on the former president, they need to have a break out moment in one of the debates…

So far this year, there have only been six boating fatalities on state waterways, that’s compared to 29 deaths in 2022. Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries spokesperson Adam Einck says it’s a significant drop from last year.

Einck encourages everyone to take LDWF’s free boating education course. He says they are required for anyone born after January 1, 1984. And before you undock, he says it’s vital that you have a sober driver at the helm.

Einck says in the 18 years that he’s been with LDWF last year was among the worst for boating fatalities in the state.

A stud linebacker from Many High School has committed to LSU. Tylen Singleton chose LSU over several schools, including Arkansas, Texas A-and-M, Tennessee and TCU. Last year as a junior, Singleton had 75 tackles and four interceptions, two of them were returned for touchdowns.

New employment numbers from the Louisiana Workforce Commission, shows the state added 20-thousand jobs from June 2022 to this past June. L-W-C Chief Economist Emily DiPalma says they are encouraged to see the Lake Charles area gain nearly three-thousand jobs…

Biologists have seen an increase in brown pelican colonies on three coastal islands that have been restored as a result of B-P settlement money. LDWF project manager Katie Freer says they’ve also seen evidence the restored islands are holding up against Mother Nature…..

The National Hurricane Center says there’s a low chance of development of a depression forming from a tropical wave that’s heading towards the Caribbean.

The state health department reported nearly 19-hundred COVID cases between July 10th to the 16th, which is a bit of an increase.

LSU has received a commitment from four-star linebacker Tylen Singleton from Many. He’s six-foot-one, as weighs nearly 210 pounds. Singleton’s verbal pledge gives LSU 19 commitments for its 2024 recruiting class. Singleton told 24-7 sports that everybody from Louisiana dreams about playing for LSU.

Former LSU Tiger Dylan Crews has signed with the Washington Nationals and his deal contains a nine million dollar bonus…

Police were quickly able to track the call back to Marcus Venable who has now been banned from teaching at LSU. In the profanity-laced message, Venable indicated he can’t wait to see Fesi’s name in an obituary which is why the lawmaker involved law enforcement:

Western Kentucky is the preseason favorite, followed by Liberty, Middle Tennessee and then the Bulldogs. Five Tech players are on the preseason watch list, offensive lineman Carson Bruno, defensive lineman Deshon Hall, wide receiver and returner Smoke Harris, defensive back Willie Roberts and offensive lineman Abe Delfin.

The reigning Southland Conference Champion Southeastern Louisiana Lions placed a league-high 17 players on the preseason all conference football teams. The Lions top two quarterbacks on their roster were first and second teams selections. Zachary Clement was a first-team selection as the former Lafayette Christian star has transferred in from Northwestern State. Eli Sawyer was the second team choice.

The federal government has announced the first ever offshore wind energy lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico will take place place on August 29th. Energy companies will bid on 300-thousand acres of federal waters near Lake Charles and Galveston, Texas. The feds say this has the potential to generate clean, renewable energy for nearly 1-point-three million homes.
