The culinary showdown will be live-streamed with a celebrity panel of judges. Nungesser says the love and passion the chefs put into each dish is incredible…

2023 King of Louisiana Seafood winner Chef Owen Hohl of Hot Tails in Prairieville will represent the state this year.  Nungesser says the goal is to promote the quality and variety of domestic seafood found in the US.

According to researchers, this year’s ‘Dead Zone’ in the northern Gulf of Mexico is the sixth smallest in 36 years. The decrease is due to water temperatures and low water flow on the Mississippi River. LSU Professor Nancy Rabalais says the waterway is moving less water and carrying fewer nutrients.

The deadzone has shrunk nearly 3,000 square miles since July which is just over 13 times the size of Lake Pontchartrain, according to researchers. Rabalais says the flow of nitrogen in the river over the last two decades has resulted in less bottom water hypoxia.

The Environmental Protection Agency has made $60 million available for nutrient reduction projects through its Gulf Hypoxia Program – part of the 2022 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Rabalais says there remains a need for nutrient reduction to protect the health of the river and marine life.

Since records began in 1985, the largest dead zone was 8,776 square miles in 2017.

Kamara will miss the first three games of the regular season for his role in a fight outside of a Las Vegas nightclub in February 2022. A new report on public school teacher salaries shows one reason why teacher pay falls below the Southern Regional Average is that experienced teachers do not make much more than beginning teachers. Council for a Better Louisiana President Barry Erwin says a new study shows there are fundamental issues with teacher pay in Louisiana. Erwin says the report shows that starting pay for teachers is the second highest in the South, but the overall statewide average is among the lowest. Erwin says that’s because the state continues to give out across the board pay raises…

Planning is underway to build a one-point-eight billion dollar low-carbon methanol production facility in Pineville. SunGas Renewables CEO Robert Rigdon says they plan to hire over 100 people to produce nearly 400-thousand metric tons of green methanol that large ships will use….

Southeastern Louisiana says no personal data or educational records were stolen when the university was hit by a cyber security attack six months ago. Several agencies are investigating the incident that resulted in S-L-U taking its network off line for nearly a month.

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission approves a plan that lowers the catch limit for speckled trout. Under the plan approved, anglers would only be allowed to catch a speckled trout that’s more than 13 inches long. The total catch per angler per day would go from 25 fish to 15. LDWF Assistant Secretary Patrick Banks says this conservation plan is needed…

Banks says the public will have the opportunity to comment on the plan and legislators could reject it, but if there are no hold ups, it could go into effect as early as November.

SunGas Renewables CEO Robert Rigdon says building a $1.8 billion renewable low-carbon methanol site in Pineville will make a meaningful impact in producing clean energy. Rigdon says after inspecting several sites, this was the best location.
