The U-S House is expected to try again tomorrow and elect a new Speaker of the House. Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves says Ohio Representative Jim Jordan is the top candidate but it’s not a given that he’ll get the 217 votes to replace Kevin McCarthy.

Jordan can only afford to lose no more than four party votes from a 221-212 House Republican majority. Garret says the house is unable to do legislative business and there are a lot of issues that hang in the balance.

More than fifty Republicans voted against Jordan in a vote on Friday after House Republican Steve Scalise withdrew his bid after being chosen as the party’s first nominee, due to opposition from Jordan supporters. Graves says the focus should be selecting a Speaker so the House can conduct business.

A survey by the consumer financial company Bankrate found that 23% of holiday travelers will be taking fewer trips for the holidays and 27% will most likely drive due to higher travel costs. Senior Industry Analyst Ted Rossman says 77 percent of travelers are modifying their plans to save money.

Travelers with lower-income households are more likely to be impacted by inflation at a higher rate. Rossman says planning ahead will help save money this holiday season.

A Frustrating loss for the Saints yesterday as they wasted several chances and lost to the upstart Houston Texans 20-13. New Orleans outgained Houston 430-297, but the Black and Gold were 0 for 3 in the red zone. Coach Dennis Allen says red zone offense continues to be a problem, there were also a couple of missed field goals and a poor first half by the defense…

New Orleans has a short week as they will host Jacksonville on Thursday. The Jaguars easily defeated the Colts 37-20 to improve to 4-and-2.

LSU put it all together on Saturday night as the Fighting Tigers trounced the Auburn Tigers 48-18 in Death Valley. Another big night for Jayden Daniels as he threw for 325 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 93 yards. LSU scored on eight of its ten possessions and Daniels was asked after the game if he gets mad when they don’t score…

The Bayou Bengals moved up to number 19 in the AP Poll. and Tulane is back in the Top 25 after a come from behind 31-21 win over Memphis. The Green WAve hosts North Texas this Saturday for homecoming.

LSU is back in Tiger Stadium on Saturday night as the Bayou Bengals will host Auburn. The Fighting Tigers enter the game ranked 121st in pass defense, while Auburn is 119th in pass offense. Auburn has decided to be more of a run team in Hugh Freeze’s first season at the helm. Kick off is at 6 PM.

While this game is ongoing, safety Greg Brooks is at St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, as he continues to get treatment following surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his brain. Coach Brian Kelly says they are inspired by the support Brooks has received nationally. He says Brooks’ unfortunate situation has also provided the players an important lesson…

After getting blown out 55-7 on their home field last Saturday, ULM will look to get a win on the road Saturday night as they visit Texas State. The Warhawks beat the Bobcats last season 31-30, rallying back from a one point deficit. Kick off from San Marcos is at 6:02.

It’s homecoming for Grambling on Saturday as the Tigers will host Alabama A-and-M at 2 PM. The Tigers are coming off a tough one point loss to Alcorn State. Grambling lost to Alabama A-and-M in double overtime last year.

It’s also homecoming for Southeastern Louisiana. The Lions are looking to turn around a disappointing season as they host Lamar at 3 PM at Strawberry Stadium on Saturday. S-L-U is still looking for its first win of the season.

The Saints are looking for their second consecutive win on the road on Sunday as they visit the Houston Texans. Offensive guard Andrus Peat, who missed last week’s win with a concussion now has a groin strain and it’s questionable whether he’ll play Sunday.

Louisiana Congressman and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise’s attempt to be the next U-S House Speaker is over. Scalise did not have enough votes. In a press conference, Scalise says he will continue as the majority leader but there’s still work to be done.

Scalise could only afford to lose four votes from Republicans and there were at least 17 GOP lawmakers against him, despite receiving the House Republican nomination on Wednesday. Scalise says unification is needed and the House has to come together for the country.

Scalise had the public support of Louisiana U-S Representatives Julia Letlow and  Clay Higgins. Higgins says he’s sad Scalise was not elected as the first House Speaker from Louisiana. But He now throws his support behind fellow House Freedom Caucus member Jim Jordan from Ohio…

A rare annular eclipse will take place tomorrow. LSU Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy Natalie Hinkel says this type of eclipse happens when the moon is further from Earth, and it obscures only part of the sun. She says Louisiana will only have a partial eclipse and won’t get the full effect of the Ring of Fire view.

In Louisiana, the eclipse will be visible from 10:30 AM until 1:30 PM.

Hinkel says today we know why and how eclipses happen but before humans were frightened by them.

Louisiana’s lone female on death row was denied a capital clemency hearing by the Louisiana Pardon Board who conducted an administrative review of Antoinette Frank’s case. Frank was a New Orleans police officer when she killed a fellow officer and two restaurant workers during a late night robbery in 1995. Her brother, Alex Frank, told the four-member panel that his sister is a reformed person

Officer Ronald Williams was working security detail at the restaurant when he was killed by Frank and her co-defendant Rogers LaCaze, who is serving a life sentence. Williams’ son Patrick, says Frank does not deserve to leave death row…

Frank’s lawyer argued before the Louisiana Pardon Board that the years of sexual abuse Frank received from her father left her timid and easily manipulated by violent men like her co-defendant. Frank’s former spiritual advisor argued for her chance at a sentence of life in prison…

Officer Williams’s brother-in-law pleaded with the Louisiana Pardon Board not to grant clemency. He says the family has suffered enough and Frank deserves to die for what she’s done…

Political analysts are expecting Saturday’s election to result in a run-off in the governor’s race between Republican Jeff Landry and Democrat Shawn Wilson. ULM Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says there are five other main candidates in the race, but none of them including Republican Stephen Waguespack caught fire and swayed votes in their direction….

Voters will also cast a ballot for other statewide offices including secretary of state, attorney general, treasurer, and more. Cross says there is no clear indication of who will make it to the runoff in the hotly contested race for Attorney General and Secretary of State

Legislative seats are up for grabs as well and there are some hotly contested races, especially for state senate seats that are open. Pearson says before election results roll in, we already know Republicans will have a strong majority in both chambers…

Polls will be open tomorrow from 7 AM to 8 PM for election day. Early voting for this gubernatorial primary was down eight percent from 2019, the last time we had a governor’s election. But John Tobler with the Secretary of State’s office says an increase in absentee ballots, so they expect a normal turnout for a gubernatorial primary…
