The second ranked LSU baseball team started the weekend off on a strong note as they defeated 14th ranked Texas six to three. Luke Holman struckout 12 hitters and was the winning pitcher. Michael Braswell had a two run single, Tommy White hit a solo home run and Jared Jones had a three-run blast. The Tigers face U-L Lafayette tonight.

The Cajuns lost to Vanderbilt seven to four. Louisaina Tech is 9-0 for the for the first time in school history after blanking Army four to nothing. Cole McConnell hit a two run homer. The Bulldogs will play Creighton at 1:00 today and the Blue Jays are also undefeated.

The Ragin Cajuns men’s basketball team ended a four-game losing streak by beating Southern Miss 77-61. ULM lost to South Alabama 80-69 and the Warhawks will play Coastal Carolina on Tuesday in the Sun Belt Tourney. The Cajuns will play the winner of that game on Thursday.

The second ranked LSU baseball team faces its toughest test of the season tonight when they take on 13th ranked Texas at Minute Maid Park in Houston. The Longhorns are 7-1 and they’ve allowed just seven runs in their last five games.

Louisiana Tech will try to stay undefeated when they face Army at 6 Pm in Sugarland, Texas.

It’s the final night of the regular season for Sun Belt men’s basketball. The Ragin Cajuns will try to snap a four game losing streak when they host Southern Miss. ULM is at South Alabama. The Warhawks can receive a first round bye in the Sun Belt Tournament with a win tonight in Mobile and some help.

The Sun Belt released its football schedule today. The Ragin Cajuns have only one home game in October and that’s October 12th against Appalachian State. ULM begins league play September 28th at Troy and then they’ll host James Madison and Southern Miss.

In the NBA…the Pelicans are at Indiana.

LSU Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Jayden Daniels met with the media today at the NFL Draft combine. Daniels is expected to be a top five pick, but he’s not trying to spend too much time thinking about who could select him…

The first U.S. manufacturing plant for Japanese Chemical Company UBE, which makes components for electric vehicle batteries, will be in Jefferson Parish.  President of Jefferson Parish Economic Development Jerry Bologna says it’s a significant foreign direct investment of $500 million to the community.

Iowa women’s basketball player Cailtin Clark is 18 points away from surpassing LSU legend Pete Marvaich’s Division one career scoring record of 3,667 points. Clark could pass Pistol Pete when the Hawkeyes host Ohio State on Sunday. Maravich’ s eldest son, Jaeson Maravich, doesn’t see it as Clark breaking his dad’s record….

The Legislature approved measures to expand methods used to carry out executions, lowering the age one can be charged with a felony from 18 to 17 years old, restrictions on parole and probation and permitless conceal carry. Landry says he appreciates the legislators who passed these bills

But House Democratic Caucus Chairman Matthew Willard says the special session failed to address the root causes of crime. He says the lock them up and throw away the key approach does not work…

The seventh ranked LSU Lady Tigers completed a perfect month of February with an 80-54 win over Georgia. Hailey Van Lith had a game-high 18 points, Angel Reese 17 points and 15 rebounds as the Lady Tigers have won seven in a row. They host Kentucky in the regular season finale on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, Iowa’s Caitlin Clark can surpass LSU legend Pete Maravich’s NCAA Division one scoring record if she scores 18 points against Ohio State. Pete Maravich’s eldest son, Jaeson Maravich, points out his Dad scored 3,667 points without a three-point line and in three years Caitlin is in his her fourth season. The ninth ranked LSU women’s basketball team cruised to its seventh straight victory last night as they defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 80-54. Hailey Van Lith had four three-pointers and had a game-high 18 points. Angel Reese had 17 points and 15 rebounds and Aneesah Morrow had 16 points and 10 rebounds.

At the girls state basketball tournament in Hammond, a couple of huge upsets. In Division One non-select, Parkway stunned undefeated and top seeded Walker 64-63 in overtime. Chloe Larry hit a game winning half court buzzer beating shot as the defending champs move on to play Denham Springs in the state title game.

The top seed also went down in division one select as Woodlawn of Baton Rouge defeated Huntington 71-58. The Panthers will face John Curtis on Saturday afternoon in the title game. Curtis beat Liberty in the semifinals 58-47.

The body of 19-year-old Sheryl Turner of New Iberia was positively identified as the one found on January 24th in the Ouachita River. She was last seen alive around New Year’s. Catahoula Parish Sheriff Toney Edwards says they are following up on leads which includes Turner’s social media activity and friends.

Turner’s dismembered body was found floating in the Ouachita River by a fisherman approximately three miles north of Jonesville. Edwards says deputies are working with deputies in Iberia Parish and areas in between.

Edwards says Turner was last seen by family members and left with a friend headed to north Louisiana at the beginning of the year. He says they are following up on leads as to that person’s identity and multiple law enforcement agencies are assisting in the investigation.

Preliminary estimates show Louisiana’s crawfish crop loss approaches 140 million dollars and Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain has written 2 letters this month to the Secretary of the US Department of Agriculture Tom Vilsack requesting federal assistance under the Emergency Livestock Assistance Program. His second letter sent Wednesday requested expansion or clarification…

Last year’s drought was unprecedented and losses to several of Louisiana’s industries reached around one point seven billion dollars. Strain says ELAP needs to expand to help struggling crawfish farmers.

Strain was in Washington D.C. earlier this month and met with Louisiana’s congressional delegation. He discussed the struggles of the crawfish farmers and how slow the season is going. He’s also meeting with state legislators.

This will give the drug companies who make the chemicals needed for a lethal injection more confidence to supply the necessary drugs.

Louisiana lawmakers passed a bill that will lengthen the amount a time a first-offense DWI offender must have an ignition interlock device in order to drive. Current law is three months, a bill approved by the House extends it to six months. Covington Representative Mark Wright says the longer time period will help create the habit of not drinking and driving

Louisiana adults who are not felons will soon be allowed to carry a concealed handgun without a permit or training as a result of a bill given final legislative approval by the House. Pineville Representative Mike Johnson says criminals are walking around with concealed guns so law-abiding citizens should legally have the same opportunity…

Heading to the governor’s desk is a bill that would put 17-year-olds who commit felonies in the adult criminal justice system. The legislation repeals a law that went into effect in 2019 that prosecutes non-violent 17-year-olds as juveniles. The Krewe of Feret has made the decision that they will no longer throw plastic beads during their uptown New Orleans parade. Freret Captain Bobby Hjortsberg says their co-ed and diverse organization has been thinking about doing away with plastic beads for some time, but because their Krewe is only 13 years old, they didn’t want to rock the boat.

State lawmakers approve a bill that will make it legal to carry a concealed firearm without a permit. The law will go into effect July 4th. The legislature has also passed a bill that results in 17-year-olds who commit felonies will be charged as adults, instead of going through the juvenile justice system. Marksville Representative Daryl Deshotel says juvenile detention facilities have been plagued with problems since 17-year-olds have been added to the population.
