Governor Edwards is in New Iberia this morning for a ground breaking of First Solar American manufacturing facility. First Solar is the largest solar energy manufacturer in the Western Hemisphere.

The legal action has the support of victim family members. Evelyn Salone’s husband was fatally shot by death row inmate Donald Leger almost 22 years ago in St. Mary Parish….

Entergy Louisiana is offering one million dollars in bill payment assistance to residential customers to help with high utility costs caused by the historic heat. Vice President of Customer Service Michelle Bourg says customers must have a total household income of up to 250% of the federal poverty level to be eligible.

Louisiana Tech has set a record for its largest first-time freshmen class in school history with 2,268, a 28-percent increase from the previous year. LSU starting safety and captain Greg Brooks continues his recovery from surgery to remove what his family has described as a large brain tumor. Since the start of preseason camp, Brooks complained about dizzy spells and bouts of vertigo. The family says its awaiting biopsy results.

12th ranked LSU prepared well for last week’s test against Mississippi State and passed with flying colors, a 41-14 victory over the Bulldogs. Center Charles Turner says the Tigers learned a good week of practice can lead to good results, so they are having physical practices again ahead of Saturday’s Arkansas game…

The Saints first injury report of the week lists tight end Foster Moreau and running back Jamaal Williams as non-participants in a walk-through practice that was held late yesterday afternoon. But rookie running back Kendre Miller, who missed the first two games with a hamstring injury was estimated to be a full participant. Tight end Taysom Hill is also battling a knee injury, which made him a limited participant yesterday.

A banged up Louisiana Tech football team will visit Nebraska on Saturday afternoon. Starting Quarterback Hank Bachmeier injured his shoulder in last week’s loss to North Texas and did not return and Coach Sonny Cumbie says the team’s leading rusher on the season, Keith Willis, is out with a high ankle sprain. Attorney General Jeff Landry and district attorneys from five parishes have filed a petition with the courts in an effort to stop the Pardon Board from holding clemency hearings that could result in death row inmates having their sentence lessened to life in prison. Executive Director of the Louisiana District Attorneys Association Loren Lampert says the governor and the pardon board are not following the rules…

Republican Richard Nelson has dropped out of the governor’s race. He made the announcement on social media this morning and endorsed frontrunner and fellow Republican Jeff Landry. La Politics-dot-com publisher Jeremy Alford says Nelson’s decision is a bit of a surprise…

Nelson’s name will however still appear on the October 14th ballot. Alford says the youngest formidable candidate in the race was polling in the single digits. In his statement, Nelson says he plans to pursue opportunities in the private sector.  But Alford says the endorsement of Landry could prove interesting…

And now with six formidable candidates left in the race, four Republicans, one Democrat, and one Independent, Alford says it remains to be seen how Nelson pulling his name from contention and endorsing the front-runner will play out.

We are 24 days away from the October 14th gubernatorial primary and today one of the main candidates running to replace the term-limited John Bel Edwards dropped out of the race. Republican Richard Nelson says he’s now throwing his support behind Jeff Landry.

Singer-songwriter Jim Croce died in a plane crash 50 years ago today after a performance at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. Teiko Foxx has more memories from that day.

The family of LSU safety Greg Brooks released a statement this morning that says Brooks underwent surgery last week to remove a large brain tumor. The family says they are awaiting biopsy results. Coach Brian Kelly announced after the win at Mississippi State that Brooks was not available because of a medical emergency. During preseason camp, Brooks missed some practices and Kelly said at the time the veteran safety was battling vertigo.

This Saturday, 12th ranked LSU will battle Arkansas, who was upset last Saturday by BYU. Razorbacks Coach Sam Pittman is looking for better play from his offensive line. BYU sacked Hogs Quarterback KJ Jefferson four times and outside of a 55-yard touchdown run by AJ Green, Arkansas struggled to run the ball…
