Supporters of the legislation have been changing the bill to alleviate concerns that this expanded voucher program will be too costly.

Governor Jeff Landry signed legislation sponsored by Kenner Representative Joseph Stagni that makes Louisiana the first state to ban retail sale of nitrous oxide. Stagni says the law is in response to the abuse of nitrous oxide, which is on the market for food preparation, but some use it as a party drug.

The law forbids retailers from selling nitrous oxide to individuals, not to those who need the drug for professional reasons such as dentists.

Thibodaux Representative Bryan Fontenot’s bill that gives law enforcement a twenty-five-foot buffer from the public when they are attempting to make an arrest or performing an investigation is signed into law.

Louisiana Tech punter Blake Ochsendorf is transferring to LSU. He led Conference USA in punting average and will compete with redshirt junior Peyton Todd.

Governor Jeff Landry signed a law classifying two abortion-inducing drugs as controlled and dangerous substances at a bill signing session today. He officially signed the measure last Friday. Bill sponsor Shreveport Senator Thomas Pressly explained the bill amid cries from his baby niece.

Pressly’s niece almost died in her mother’s womb after Pressly’s brother in law attempted to sneak these drugs into her mother’s drinks to induce an abortion. But health professionals say making the drugs a controlled substance is going too far and could hurt reproductive care.

Baton Rouge Republican Congressman Garret Graves has said he may run in another district because his district is now a majority-minority district. But U-S House Speaker Mike Johnson opposes that idea…

A Zachary woman was shot multiple times while trying to stop a suspected car burglar early this morning. Zachary PD Chief Darryl Lawrence says they received a call around three am of an individual trying to steal a car. He says while two women were watching, one approached the suspect and they got into a verbal altercation.

Louisiana Tech has made it to the NCAA Baseball Tournament for a 11th time as the Bulldogs will compete in the Fayeteville Regional, hosted by Arkansas, who is a number five national seed. The Diamond Dogs will will face Kansas State at 7 PM. The Wildcats are 32-and-24 this year.

Tulane and Nicholls are both headed to the same regional and they will play in Corvallis, Oregon. The Coloens are the three-seed and will take on U-C Irvine. The Green Wave are the number one seed and they’ll play Oregon State.

And Grambling is in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010 and they’ll play Texas A-and-M in the College Station Regional at noon on Friday.

In football, at the close of spring practice, LSU Coach Brian Kelly said he may add a punter in the transfer portal as he was not happy with Peyton Todd’s lack of consistency. Louisiana Tech punter Blake Ochsendorf has announced he plans on transferring to LSU. Ochsendorf led Conference USA in punting average last season.

The LSU Baseball team will travel to North Carolina this weekend for a Regional at Chapel Hill, hosted by the Tar Heels, who are seeded fourth nationally. The Tigers will open the regional by playing the Wofford Terriers, who just won the Southern Conference and Wofford is making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007.

Louisiana Tech had a great run in the Conference USA Tournament, but lost in the championship game to Dallas Baptist 17 to 10. The Bulldogs could also be a two seed in the NCAA Regional. The Ragin Cajuns could also be a two-seed.

Grambling State has won its first SWAC Championship since 2010 with a dramatic victory over Jackson State. The Tigers were down by a run in the ninth inning. Trevor Hatton’s RBI single tied the game and the winning run scored on a throwing error.

Tulane and Nicholls are back in the NCAA Tournament for a second straight year. The Colonels clobbered McNeese 15 to 1 for the Southland Tournament title. Basiel Williams was named tournament MVP. Williams hit a game tying home run in the ninth on Thursday and a walk-off homer against Southeastern on Friday.

Tulane left fielder Jakcson Linn hit a 433-foot home run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Green Wave an 11 to 10 win over Wichita State. Tulane entered the tournament as a three-seed.

And the LSU softball team’s season ended last night with a eight to nothing defeat to Stanford. The Tigers won the first game of the series 11 to 1, but failed to score a run on Saturday or last night. LSU ends with a 44-17 record.

The NCAA and the five biggest conferences, including the SEC, have reached a settlement that will result in all college athletes being paid. Jeanne Burns has more.

Today is Memorial Day, a day to honor those who fought for our country, and, according to Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Col. Charlton Meginley (mah-ghen-lee), one of the most significant.

Meginley says it is important every day, but especially today, to honor the 11 thousand Louisiana veterans who have died in combat.

Though Meginley thinks there’s nothing wrong with going to the beach or having a barbeque, he says there are other ways to celebrate veterans.

Large jackpots have proved to be profitable with the Louisiana Lottery transferring almost $48 million to the state treasury. Lottery spokesperson Dustin Annison says they also moved close to $16 million to the state coffers in April.

The Louisiana Lottery transfers profits to the state quarterly. In addition to uptick in ticket sales thanks to five-billion-dollar jackpots Powerball and Mega Millions produced this year…

Lottery retailers in Louisiana also earn a five-percent commission, plus incentives for cashing winning tickets and bonuses for selling big winning tickets. Annison says it was a good quarter for them as well.

To date, the Louisiana Lottery has transferred more than $4.7 billion to the state for K-12 public education.

It was eleven years ago when the first Mrs. Roper Romp took place as a parade theme at Decadence in New Orleans. Ever since it’s turned into the reason for millions to gather all over the globe to impersonate the beloved “Three’s Company” character Helen Roper. Jessica Cassel (Castle) is one of the organizers for Friday’s Romp in downtown Thibodaux.

And there’s also a Mrs. Roper Romp Pub Crawl in downtown Shreveport this Friday. Both begin at 6 pm.

Cassel says now is the time to get your curly red wig and kaftan ready to romp.

Last year Cassel held her own Mrs. Roper Romp with friends and played Bingo. Then Amplify Events asked her to help organize Friday’s Pub Crawl. She’s hoping in the future they can combine annual Romps with fundraisers for charity.

In January a Krewe of Mrs. Ropers paraded in Lafayette and in April there was a romp in Lake Charles.

An antitrust settlement has been finalized that will result in all college athletes being paid directly by the school. Outkick college reporter Trey Wallace says schools will have a hard time deciding how to divvy up the money.

Wallace estimates that the settlement will result in each school paying about 20-million to athletes in every sport. Though some of the money will come from traditional means such as ticket and food sales, Wallace says most of the money won’t be generated from inside stadiums.

The settlement, which involves the NCAA and the five biggest conferences — including the SEC — might also result in some changes in athletic departments.

Revenue sharing is set to start for the 2025-26 season.

It will be LSU and South Carolina again today in the SEC Tournament. The Gamecocks eliminated Kentucky six to five to set up a rematch of Thursday night’s thriller won by the Tigers 11 to 10. First pitch is at noon.

The other semifinal matchup in the SEC Tournament will be Tennessee versus Vanderbilt. The Volunteers avoided elimination by rallying to beat Mississippi State six to five.

LSU is seeking its 13th SEC Tournament Championship and trying to secure a two-seed at someone’s Regional.

Louisiana Tech will get another shot at Liberty today after losing to the Flames six to two in a winner’s bracket game during the day on Friday. The Bulldogs returned to J-C Love Field last night and eliminated Sam Houston five to three. Lead off man Dalton Davis hit two home runs and Ethan Bates earned his nation-leading 16th save. First pitch today in Ruston is at 12:30.

LSU softball is one win away from returning to the Women’s College World Series after stomping Stanford 11 to 1 last night. The Tigers got to the nation’s best pitcher by scoring three runs in the first inning and then they chased NiJaree Canady during an eight-run fifth inning. LSU got a season-high 16 hits and they hit three home runs, Ali Newland, Maci Bergeron and Kelley Lynch hit a grand slam. Tonight’s game is at 8 PM.

Nicholls is one win away from winning the Southland Tournament Championship as the Colonels eliminated Southeastern Louisiana four to three on Basiel Williams’ walk-off home run. The Colonels will play the winner of today’s game between Lamar and McNeese.

The drama between the Saints and the Louisiana Sports and Exposition Distirct over late payments for the renovation costs for the Superdome appears to be over. We learned earlier this week that the NFL franchise was 11 million dollars behind, but the Saints have reportedly made that 11 million dollar payment.
