Foskey did not make an impact in his rookie season last year after he was drafted in the second round out of Notre Dame. He appeared in ten games last year and had nine tackles. The college football bowl schedule was released today and the New Orleans Bowl will be played on Thursday December 19th at 6 PM. The game is moved off Saturday, because college football playoff games will played on the 21st. The Independence Bowl will once again be played on a Saturday night, December 28th.

Lake Charles will continue to host the high school boys basketball, baseball, softball and swim state championships. The baseball state championships will have a different format next season as Divisions one, two and three will go to a best out of three series for the championships. There’s been talk about building a new 400-million dollar arena on the LSU campus. But where will it go? The Advocate is reporting based on emails they’ve obtained through a public records request, the LSU golf course at next to Alex Box Stadium is the location that’s looked at the most. The Tiger Athletic Foundation is looking to partner with a private developer to build the arena.

A bill to repeal a law that would have put speed cameras on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge is welcome news to St. Martin Parish Sheriff Becket Breaux.  In 2022 when lawmakers were discussing the option of speed cameras to reduce speeding and prevent crashes, he responded by…

Breaux, who also worked as a state trooper, says in his experience speeding is not the main cause of crashes. He says it’s motorists driving slower in the left lane, distracted drivers…

Among the problems speed cameras present is that they cite the owner of the vehicle, not the person driving, Breaux says. And they can’t detect human and drug trafficking or give motorists discretion for speeding.

Breaux says monies collected from speeding fines also help fund things like the Indigent Defense Board and Crimestoppers. When a speed camera issues a fine those monies aren’t distributed to other agencies…

When the original legislation passed two years ago, Breaux says the process moved too fast and the opinions of others were not considered.

Governor Jeff Landry has declared today as “Secure Your Load for Road Safety Day.” Louisiana Highway Safety Commission spokesperson Greg Fischer says it’s important for motorists to properly secure items to prevent them from becoming traffic hazards.

Objects as common as two-by-four pieces of wood or a suitcase can create a lethal problem on the road. Fischer urges contractors and landscapers to take that extra time to make sure everything is secure.

Bossier City Representative Dennis Bamburg’s bill would give career-path diploma students the option to take a job skills test or a military readiness test instead. Bamburg says requiring a student who does not plan on attending college to take the ACT is lowering the state’s overall ACT score…

BESE President Ronnie Morris is urging the governor to veto this bill, because he says the proposed law would weaken school accountability.

The founder and President of Acadian Ambulance Richard Zuschlag has passed away at 76 after a battle with cancer. The Pennsylvania native moved to Lafaye5ter in 1976 and a year later started Acadian Ambulance with two ambulances. Zuschlag appeared on WRKF’s Talk Louisiana in 2022 and talked about growing Acadian Ambulance into one of the country’s largest privately held medical transportation companies.

Governor Jeff Landry signed into law a bill that gives himself authority to appoint the chairs of the board that he already appoints most of the membership. Landry appointed Stephen Dwyer as the chairman of the Housing Corporation and replaces Jimmy Clarke with New Iberia native Mark Romero as chairman of the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System.

Three men who describe themselves as predator hunters allegedly caught Lunn in the act as they pretend to be underage girls online in an effort to catfish men in the Shreveport area trying to meet up with underage girls for sex. Shreveport Police is investigating.

The College Football Playoff has released the game times for the first 12-team playoff. It will get underway on Friday December 20th with a first round game on a college campus. Former LSU women’s basketball player Hailey Van Lith will compete in the Summer Olympics in Paris. Van Lith will represent the U-S in three on three women’s basketball. Her teammates are Cameron Brink, Rhyne Howard and Cierra Burdick.

LSU pitcher Griffin Hering and Louisiana Tech’s Ethan Bates are Stopper of the Year finalists. Bates led the nation with 17 saves.

LSU relief pitcher Aiden Moffett has entered the transfer portal after making 16 appearances in 2024 and finishing with an ERA of 5.60.

It’s official, professional hockey is back in Monroe as the Monroe Moccasins will play in the Federal Prospects Hockey League. Owner Nick Perkins expects northeast Louisiana will support the team and they will support winning hockey…

Since 2013 Louisiana has required every high school student to take the ACT. Supporters of this legislation say Louisiana’s average ACT score has been dragged down, because there are students not taking the A-C-T seriously, if they are going to a four-year college. Bamburg made that point on the House floor…

Louisiana’s ACT score has been trending downward. Last year the state average was 18, while the national average is 19.5.

The Treasure Chest Casino in Kenner will open its doors today for its new land-based casino in Kenner. David Strow (rhymes with how) with Boyd Gaming Corporation says it will be quite a change from their riverboat casino and he’s betting visitors will be impressed.

The new facility has a gambling hall that’s 47,000 square feet, twice the size of the previous casino, and 8,000 square of convention space.

Strow says in addition to gambling they’ll have four dining options, including a high-end steak house and a state-of-the-art sports bar next to a Fan Duel Sportsbook.

At the riverboat property, visitors had to park off-site and take a shuttle to the casino. Strow believes guests will appreciate the parking lot at the new land-based casino.

Strow says of all their properties the one in Kenner is among their most successful ones and believes that will continue to grow with the new facility.
