The second-ranked LSU baseball team begins SEC play tonight as they visit the Mississippi State Bulldogs for a three-game set in Starkville. The Tigers are 16-and-2 and the strength has been their starting pitching. LSU’s pitching staff has compiled 234 strikeouts and that leads the nation. Coach Jay Johnson expects his guys to keep throwing strikes

The Saints are reportedly signing Nathan Peterman to be a backup quarterback. New Orleans has also reportedly agreed to a contract with free agent wide receiver Cedric Wilson Junior. Wilson has spent five seasons in the NFL and caught 22 passes for the Dolphins last year.

Murder charges have been dropped against an 11-year-old girl from New Iberia. The girl has pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice in the shooting death of Kameron Bedsole who died after he was shot in the head in November. Prosecutors say it was the 11-year-old girl’s brother who killed Bedsole, but the girl obstructed in the investigation. Judge Roger Hamilton handed down a seven-year sentence against the child, with three and a half years suspended.

A new medical marijuana pharmacy has opened in the state. It’s located in Kenner, the second one for Jefferson Parish. Crescent City Therapeutics owner Lovie Rodgers says they will provide their customers with a personalized experience…

The McNeese Cowboys are headed to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament after winning the Southland Tourney by beating Nicholls. Shahada Wells earned most valuable player honors for the tournament as he had 27 points and six assists in the win over the Colonels. The Tech men’s basketball team was eliminated last night in the Conference Tournament, but the Lady Techsters advanced to the semi finals after beating Jacksonville State 60-54.

Two bills related to mental health on school campuses advance from Senate Education. Lake Charles Senator Mark Abraham’s bill allows public schools to employ or allow a volunteer chaplain to provide support services for students and teachers. He says in the two states that do allow chaplains…

Baton Rouge Senator Regina Barrow’s bill promotes awareness of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 9-8-8. Schools would be required to post the 24/7 free counseling number on their website and school ID cards. Barrow quoted concerning suicide statistics from 2021…

Barrow says knowing that individuals as young as 10 years old have committed suicide is heartbreaking and she wants anyone who is struggling to know help is a phone call away.

All SEC Selection Josh Hubbard is averaging 17 points to lead State. He scored 32 against the Tigers earlier this season and hit six three-pointers in a 20-point win over LSU.

Louisiana Tech beat Middle Tennessee twice in the regular season, but were upset by the Blue Raiders last night in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament. Disappointing end to the Bulldogs season that saw them go 22-10 this season.

Host of the Tech Gumbo podcast, Haggai Davis says Congress is trying to force ByteDance to sell Tik Tok to either a U.S.-based or a non-Chinese company to alleviate concerns that China could be misusing data against Americans.

A 34-year-old Ruston woman is facing manslaughter charges in the death of her boyfriend. Authorities say Willie Watson was on the hood of Brictiney Robinson’s car when she slammed on her brakes causing him to roll off and Watson later died from head injuries. Robinson faces up to 40 years in prison.

Starting Monday, state Department of Transportation work crews will begin installing new speed cameras on the I-10 Atchafalaya Basin Bridge to inform motorists of their speed. DOTD spokesperson Rodney Mallett says the cameras will not issue tickets, but they hope informing motorists of the speed will stop dangerous weaving through traffic…

And heartbreak for Louisiana Tech, they were upset by Middle Tennessee in the Conference USA Tournament.
