Power outages and flooding are the main concerns in St. Charles, Orleans and Jefferson Parishes. Seven to nine inches of rain fell over a very short time across the East Bank and as much as 11 inches in some areas. Kenner’s Police chief Keith Conley compares the flooding he’s seen to Hurricane Katrina.

According to power-outage-dot-u-s, 392-thousand customers in Louisiana are without power from Francine. Terrebonne, St. Mary, Lafourche, Assumption, St. John the Baptist and Ascension parishes are the among the hardest hit areas for power outages. State Fire Marshal Assistant Fire Chief Mark Treadway says if you are using a generator, have a Carbon monoxide detector to monitor C-O levels in the home…

Governor Jeff Landry authorized the activation of up to 25-hundred National Guardsmen to help in the aftermath of Hurricane Francine.

Colonel Jennifer Mumme says the Guard pre-staged 14 route clearance teams across seven parishes to assist with debris removal and clearing of roads.

The state department of transportation says crews are finding downed trees and power lines and high water in some areas.

The Saints can make a huge statement with a win over Dallas on Sunday. New Orleans won by 37 points over Carolina in the season opener. Linebacker Demario Davis says they need to follow up that win with another one….

Cornerback Marshon Lattimore was one of five players who did not practice yesterday. He left Sunday’s win over the Panthers with a hamstring injury, he’s also dealing with a hip injury. New Orleans can really use Lattimore this Sunday as the Cowboys have one of the best receivers in the NFL in CeeDee Lamb.

Tonight’s NFL game is a good one as the Dolphins host the Bills. Buffalo’s Keon Coleman from Opelousas caught four passes last week in his NFL debut.

LSU is preparing for its SEC opener at South Carolina on Saturday. There’s a 70-percent chance of rain in Columbia. Coach Brian Kelly says before Francine made landfall, they practiced outside yesterday to prepare for playing in the rain…

LSU receiver Chris Hilton remains questionable for Sunday’s game at South Carolina. He has yet to play because of a bone bruise. Jordan Allen, Kyle Parker, Da’Shawn Womack and West Weeks are also questionable. Starting offensive guard Garrett Dellinger is probable after missing last Saturday’s Nicholls game.

The 24th ranked Colonels continue their three-game road trip this Saturday as they are at 11th ranked Sacramento State. McNeese kicks off conference play by hosting Stephen F Austin. Southeastern Louisiana has its home opener against Eastern Washington and Northwestern State visits South Alabama.

The center of what was Hurricane Francine is moving into Mississippi, but it left its mark on southeast Louisiana. Francine made landfall as a Category two storm near Morgan City yesterday afternoon. Mayor Lee Dragna says Francine’s 100 mile per hour winds knocked their power out…

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s office reports multiple families in the Thibodeaux area had to be rescued last night as a result of rising water following Hurricane Francine. A total of 26 people were rescued and most were taken to an emergency shelter at the Lockport Community Center.

Flooding is a major issue in the New Orleans area. Kenner Mayor Keith Conley says the widespread flooding compares to Hurricane Katrina. The pumps just couldn’t keep up in Orleans and Jefferson Parishes and took in water.

Five Saints players did not practice today including Marshawn Lattimore and Tyrann Mathieu. Lattimore is dealing with a hip and hamstring, while Mathieu has a bad heel. But receiver A-T Perry and guard Nick Saldiveri were full participants.

 

LSU linebacker Whit Weeks is one of the team co-leaders in tackles and Coach Brian Kelly said on today’s SEC Media teleconference Weeks is pushing for more playing time…

Harold Perkins and Greg Penn were the starting linebackers in the first two weeks. Penn led the team with nine tackles against Nicholls, Weeks had six, while Perkins had three.

 

Louisiana Tech is preparing to play a North Carolina State offense led by Quarterback Grayson McCall, who was a three-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year at Coastal Carolina. Bulldogs defensive back Cedric Woods talked about the game plan…

Conditions are beginning to deteriorate in south Louisiana as the center of Hurricane Francine churns closer to St. Mary and Terrebonne Parishes. It’s a Category 1 storm with sustained winds of 90 mph and it’s moving northeast at 13 miles per hour. The storm is about 120 miles southwest of Morgan City and is expected to make landfall later today. LSU Public Health Climatologist Barry Keim says there is an upside.

And Keim says Francine should move quickly through southeast Louisiana and the center of the storm is expected to be in Mississippi during the overnight hours.

Governor Jeff Landry urges the public not to relax, because it’s just a Cat 1 storm…

A category one storm can have maximum sustained winds up to 95 miles per hour.

Hurricane Francine is expected to move quickly through southeast Louisiana, but unfortunately could leave some people without power for days. Colleen Crain has the story.

A curfew is now in place in Lafourche Parish. A shelter in place is now in effect for New Orleans. Over a hundred flights have been cancelled at Louis Armstrong International Airport. Afternoon flights are also canceled out of Lafayette and Baton Rouge airports. Numerous parishes in southeast Louisiana have opened evacuation shelters of last resort.

Even though Hurricane Francine is bearing down on southeast Louisiana, the Saints practiced this morning at their training facility in Metairie.

Conditions in Baton Rouge are expected to deteriorate this afternoon, so the LSU Tigers practice this morning without defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory, who is out for the year with a torn Achilles. Defensive end Paris Shand says they got other guys who can step up….

Louisiana Tech football coach Sonny Cumbie says Jack Turner will start at quarterback for the Bulldogs this Saturday when they visit North Carolina State. Turner was injured in the first half of the Nicholls State game on August 31st after taking a big hit. Cumbie credits Turner’s strength and conditioning for his quick recovery…

N-C State went 9-and-4 last year, but they are coming off a 51-10 loss to Tennessee.

Southern football coach Terrence Graves has announced redshirt freshman Czavian Teasett will start this Saturday against Jackson State. Teasett threw for 316 yards and three touchdowns last week against Savannah State.

In basketball…four star forward Matt Gilhool has committed to LSU. He’ six-foot-ten and is ranked by 2-4-7-sports as the 24th best power forward in the nation.

Saturday was a quiet night for LSU linebacker Harold Perkins. Perkins had just three tackles in the win over Nicholls and the Tigers most dynamic player on defense did not have much of an impact. It raises the question again, is Perkins being used correctly as an inside linebacker. Coach Brian Kelly says they will continue to evaluate…

LSU will be at South Carolina on Saturday.

Northwestern State linebacker Blake Gotcher had a career-high 23 tackles in the Demons’ loss to Prairie View A-and-M. He’s the first Demon since 2019 to have more than 20 tackles in a game. N-S-U will be at South Alabama on Saturday looking for their first win on the season.

Francine’s track has shifted, putting more of southeast Louisiana in its crosshairs for a landfall late tomorrow afternoon or tomorrow night. Andrew Greenstein reports.

Francine will produce power outages. Cleco spokesperson Jennifer Cahill says they are setting up staging areas to house material and supplies, securing housing for out-of-area workers and specialized equipment is on stand-by…

Cleco has brought in 17-hundred additional contractors to help restore power once the storm passes.

Evacuations are underway in Louisiana’s low lying areas along the coast that are not protected by a levee system. Lafourche Parish President Archie Chaisson says a mandatory evacuation order is set to go into effect in his parish at 5 PM for high risk flooding areas…

Once the power goes out, people turn to portable generators for electricity. Director of the West Bank Fire Services, Don Robertson, has this message…

Robertson says it’s also smart to have a working carbon monoxide detector in your home when using a generator.

Tropical Storm Francine is in the Western Gulf of Mexico trying to get more organized. As of the 10 AM update, Francine has maximum sustained winds at 65 miles per hour and LSU Public Health Climatologist Barry Keim says Francine should reach hurricane strength today…

Cut 3 (08) “…Category Two hurricane”

Keim says the biggest update at ten o’clock is that the path has shifted to the east, with a possible landfall near Morgan City and putting more of the New Orleans metro area, including Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes on the bad side of the storm. Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng says preparations for the storm should be completed this afternoon…

Sheng has called for a mandatory evacuation for coastal residents and those outside of the levee system.

 

Entergy is gearing up for the impact of Hurricane Francine, which could bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, and widespread power outages. Vice President of Customer Service Michelle Bourg (berg) says Entergy is closely monitoring the storm’s path and preparing its crews and resources to respond quickly to any damage caused by the hurricane.

Cleco is preparing for potential widespread power outages as Francine approaches southern Louisiana. With the forecast expected to bring heavy rains, strong winds, and potential flooding, Spokesperson Jenifer Cahill says Cleco has ramped up its emergency response efforts to ensure rapid power restoration.

And again with Francine we are anticipating a landfall sometime Wednesday afternoon, Wednesday night, possibly near Morgan City as a Category one or two storm.

LSU is having trouble getting its run game going, but Coach Brian Kelly is not concerned. The Tigers only rushed for 68 yards on 21 carries against Nicholls. Kelly says the Colonels forced the Tigers to throw the ball more, because the number of defenders they had close to the line of scrimmage…

LSU will visit South Carolina this Saturday. The Gamecocks lead the SEC in sacks with ten.

Paul Skenes won his tenth game of the season last night as Skenes allowed one run over six innings and struck out nine as Pittsburgh edged Miami three to two. Skenes has struck out 151, a franchise record for the Pirates for a rookie.

The Saints were easy winners in week one as New Orleans defeated Carolina 47 to 10. We’ll get a better idea of how good this Saints team is over the next month as three of the next four opponents made the playoffs last year, starting with this Sunday’s game against the Cowboys at AT-and-T Stadium in Arlington.

The Ragin Cajuns are off to a good start at 2-and-0 and quarterback Ben Woolridge is completing 76-percent of his passes. Coach Michael Desormeaux says avoiding negative plays on offense allows for an efficient passing game…

The Cajuns are off this Saturday and they’ll host Tulane on September 21, which will be an 11 AM kick -off.

Grambling quarterback Myles Crawley has been named SWAC player of the week. Crawley threw for 304 yards and four touchdowns in Grambling’s 37-20 win over Tuskegee. The Tigers are at Texas A-and-M Commerce this Saturday.
