Saints linebacker Demario Davis has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Falcons. It’s the first time the 13-year vet will miss an NFL game due to an injury. The Pro Bowler will miss the game because of a hamstring injury. Offensive guard Cesar Ruiz will also miss Sunday’s game because of a knee injury. That means the Black and Gold are missing two starters on the o-line for this NFC South matchup.

Louisiana Tech begins Conference USA play on Saturday as they visit F-I-U. The Bulldogs have scored just eight offensive touchdowns in three games. Coach Sonny Cumbie admits players on offense are pressing to make big plays happen…

In high school football…impressive win for Catholic High of New Iberia last night as the Panthers defeated Notre Dame 42-28. Luke Landry tossed five touchdown passes.

Tonight, in New Iberia, it’s Westgate hosting Teurlings Catholic in a battle of unbeatens. Also, Pineville is at Leesville, West Monroe visits Catholic of Baton Rouge, Alexandria Senior High is at Opelousas, and St. Thomas More visits Neville.

Union Parish District Attorney John Belton has decided to drop the negligent homicide charge against State Police trooper Kory York who was one of several officers involved in the 2019 fatal arrest of Ronald Greene. Legal analyst Tim Meche says a possible reason on why this was done….the autopsy done on Greene shows a variety of factors that led to his death,

Hurricane Helene has produced extensive damage along Florida’s panhandle and western coast and into Georgia. It made landfall as a Category four hurricane after developing near the Yucatan Peninsula. Union Parish District Attorney John Belton has dropped the most serious crime against State Police Trooper Kory York for his role in the fatal arrest of black motorist Ronald Greene, who was beaten and tased along a highway in Union Parish in 2019. But York still faces eight counts of malfeasance and legal analyst Tim Meche says the decision by Belton to drop the negligent homicide charge may have been made to simplify the case…

The state has achieved a record-high educational attainment level of 51-percent, up from 47-percent since 2021, and represents over 30-thousand Louisianians who have earned college degrees or credentials. Higher Ed Commissioner Kim Hunter Reed says goal is to hit 60-percent by 2030…

The State of Louisiana now has a very good idea of how popular the fortified roofs grant program is. Last week, nearly 12-thousand registered for the lottery that was originally going to select 300 people to receive a grant of up to ten-thousand dollars for a fortified roof. Due to the overwhelming response, Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple doubled the number of grants for this period to 600. Temple says there’s plenty of funding to accommodate that number.

The Saints will not have their alpha dog on offense for this Sunday’s game at Atlanta. Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak referred to Erick McCoy as the offense’s alpha dog when he met with the media yesterday. McCoy is out at least the next six weeks with a groin injury. Lucas Patrick or Shane Lemieux, who was elevated from the practice squad this week could replace McCoy at center. Quarterback Derek Carr was asked about the situation…

And the Saints could be without one of their starting guards for Sunday’s game at Atlanta. Cesar Ruiz missed a second straight practice with a knee injury, but running back Alvin Kamara returned to practice yesterday after missing Wednesday’s workout with injuries to his hip and ribs.

The LSU Tigers will face a South Alabama team on Saturday night that’s scored 135 points in its last two games. Coach Brian Kelly says quarterback Gio Lopez can run it and throw it and the Jaguars leading rusher Fluff Bothwell is averaging nearly ten yards a carry…

The negligent homicide charge against State Trooper Kory York has been dropped in the 2019 arrest and death of Ronald Greene.  Colleen Crain has more.

State Police is investigating a physical altercation during a traffic stop that happened yesterday between a Shreveport officer and s motorist that resulted in the motorist in a hospital in serious condition. No other details have bee released.

In St. Charles Parish, deputies fatally shot a 58-year-old man who allegedly threatened others with an airsoft gun. The family of Charles Verdin says he had a history of mental illness.

Instead of handing out three-hundred grants of up to ten-thousand dollars so homeowners in south Louisiana can pay for a fortified roof, the Louisiana Department of Insurance is handing out six-hundred grants. Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple says they would like to hand out more grants but…

The Saints are preparing to face the Atlanta Falcons Sunday without starting center Erik McCoy who is expected to miss six to eight weeks after undergoing surgery on his groin. McCoy has been called the glue of the O-line Coach Dennis Allen says McCoy will be missed, but they have others who can step up…

Tonight’s Thursday night NFL game is the Dallas Cowboys at the New York Giants. Former LSU star Malik Nabers is off to a fantastic start with the Giants as he’s second in the NFL in catches with 23. The Cowboys and Dak Prescott could use a win as Dallas is off to a 1-and-2 start. Kick-off is at 7:15.

Freshman Ahmad Breaux is starting on LSU’s defensive line after spending last year as a defensive end for Ruston High School. Breaux helped the Bearcats win a state championship and then he added 35 pounds of muscle so that he can play defensive tackle for the Tigers. Breaux is listed at 285 pounds, but believes he plays much bigger, because of what he’s learned from D-Line coach Bo Davis…

LSU hosts South Alabama on Saturday.

LSU gymnastics received a huge commitment today as US Olympic gold medalist Hezly Rivera committed to the Tigers. The 16-year-old Rivera visited LSU this past weekend and announced her college decision today. Rivera was not selected to compete during the Team final, but she did compete on bean and uneven bars. Rivera will not graduate high school until 2026, so it will be awhile before she competes for LSU.

A man  arrested over 40 times in St. John the Baptist Parish, was apprehended again this week. Sheriff Mike Tregre (treg) says this arrest stemmed from a St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division investigation that began in June, targeting Casey Spies for suspected involvement in distributing methamphetamine.

Spies’ criminal record dates to 2008 and includes charges such as aggravated and simple burglary, possession of methamphetamine and heroin, battery of law enforcement officers, false imprisonment, obscenity, and theft. Tregre says the hardest part is keeping morale up for himself and his deputies…

Judge Vercell Fiffie (fee-fee) set Spies’ bond at $10,500, which he posted after paying a 10-percent cash bond of $1,050, resulting in his release two and a half hours later.  Tregre says this is a reoccurring issue with Fiffie…

Spies was booked at the Sherman Walker Correctional Center on charges of resisting an officer, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lafayette Congressman Clay Higgins is coming under fire for a post on X he made about Haitians. After a Haitian nonprofit sued Former President Donald Trump and running mate J.D. Vance over their claims of them eating pets, Higgins repeated that claim in his post, saying, in his words, “All these thugs better get their mind right and their (behinds) out of the country on January 20th,” using a more colorful synonym for the word “behinds.” ULM Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says that’s basically Higgins being Higgins.

Democrats, including the chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, have called on the house to censure Higgins. Cross says it’s unlikely, however, that Higgins’ fellow Republicans will hold him accountable.

Cross says Higgins displayed this kind of behavior even before he was elected to Congress, which he was a law enforcement officer with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office…

Even though Higgins has deleted the post, he told CNN that he does not regret his comments.

The Louisiana Department of Health launches a new pilot program aimed at increasing opportunities for pregnant women to get tested for syphilis. Dr. Stephanie Taylor, the medical director of the STD/HIV program for LDH, says the state has had significant challenges with congenital syphilis which cause severe complications, including fetal death and miscarriage. Dr. Taylor says it’s a rapid test.

Dr. Taylor says when the test was first developed, one of the main trials was done in Africa.

Taylor says there’s no scheduled end date to this pilot program.

Taylor says currently, only 50-percent of pregnant women get adequately screened.

Hours after Higgins’ now-deleted X post sparked an uproar, he seemed to walk back those comments. Reporters caught up with him at the Capitol and asked him about it, and Higgins said it was never meant to be a dig against Haitian people as a whole.

Higgins said he realized his words hurt several people, and that’s why he took the post down.

That’s a far cry from what he told CNN earlier in the day, in which he said he had no regrets. He says his social media record is, for the most part, a good one.

The website is responsible for a phishing scam that sent out fraudulent text messages claiming the recipient of the text message has an unpaid toll fee of $3.75.
