Natchitoches Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old Matthew Daniels, who was shot on July Street late yesterday afternoon. Police Sergeant John Greely says the location of the shooting is one officers know well…

The calendar says fall, but it’s felt more like summer. LSU Public Health Climatologist Barry Keim has good news…a cold front is moving through Louisiana, and it’s also pushing Hurricane Helene away from the state and towards Florida.

But in Florida, thousands are being evacuated as Helene is expected to be a Category Three hurricane when it makes landfall along the Florida panhandle on Thursday night.

Library cardholders in 18 parishes will be able to receive a free day pass to visit a State Park starting in October. State Librarian Meg Placke (PLACK-ee) says when they obtain a park pass at the library branch, they can also check out a backpack for the occasion, containing all the essentials needed when visiting a state park.

A new pilot program is set to begin in which library card holders can obtain a free one-day pass to any of Louisiana’s state parks.

State Librarian Meg Placke (PLACK-ee) says when they obtain a park pass at the library branch, they can also check out a backpack for the occasion, containing all the essentials needed when visiting a state park.

Placke says the new program launches early next week.

18 out of the 68 library systems are participating in the pilot program, along with the state library in Baton Rouge, with the goal of eventually expanding this statewide. Cardholders can obtain a free one-day park pass once every six months.

LSU Public Health Climatologist Barry Keim says the cold front that’s barreling towards Louisiana is also pushing Hurricane Helene away from the state and towards Florida.

Keim says thanks to this cold front, fans attending Saturday’s LSU game should not have brutally hot temperatures to contend with, unlike last weekend.

An Arabi man is arrested after he allegedly struck and killed a DOTD worker on I-610 West in New Orleans. Investigators say 23-year-old Eric Anthony Jr. was assisting a disabled vehicle yesterday when 26-year-old Oscar Perez-Moran veered onto the shoulder, hitting Anthony and two other vehicles. Trooper Jacob Pucheu (PEE-shoo) says Anthony was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The crash occurred as Anthony, a Motorist Assistance Patrol (MAP) employee, was retrieving equipment to assist a stranded motorist. Perez-Moran was hospitalized and faces charges of negligent homicide and other traffic-related offenses. Pucheu says any serious injury or fatal crash by law blood or breath test are taken…

Pucheu urges drivers to follow the state’s “move-over” law, which requires motorists to slow down or change lanes when approaching emergency vehicles.

Investigators are still determining why Perez-Moran’s vehicle left the road. Routine toxicology tests are pending.

A teenage boy is shot and killed in Natchitoches (NACK-uh-tish). Police Sergeant John Greely says officers were called to July Street on reports of gunshots in the area. But the victim, 17-year-old Matthew Daniels wasn’t there.

Sergeant Greely says at this point, it’s unclear what led to the shooting.

Saints Pro bowl center Erik McCoy will reportedly miss the next six to eight weeks after undergoing surgery on his groin. McCoy was injured in the first quarter in the loss to the Eagles and New Orleans had trouble moving the ball against Philadelphia’s defense. WWL Saints analyst Mike Detillier says Lucas Patrick will take McCoy’s place at center, but there will be a drop off..

The Falcons will also be without their starting center for Sunday’s game against the Saints. Drew Dalman has been placed on injured reserve. Kick off in Atlanta is at noon.

Also in the NFC South this Sunday,…the Panthers, fresh off a win with Andy Dalton at quarterback, will host Cincinnati. Joe Burrow’s Bengals are 0-and-3.

The Buccaneers will get a chance to beat the Eagles in Tampa Bay. Both teams are two and 1 on the season.

Saturday’s LSU-South Alabama game will be a homecoming for Jaguars coach Major Applewhite, who grew up in Baton Rouge and was a star quarterback at Catholic High. But Applewhite is treating his return to the Red Stick as an opportunity to go 3-and-2 on the season…

Applewhite is in his first season as head coach of the Jaguars. He was the offensive coordinator for South Alabama in the two previous seasons.

Louisiana Tech coach Sonny Cumbie has yet to decide who will start at quarterback this Saturday in the Conference USA opener against FIU. Evan Bullock replaced starter Jack Turner in the fourth quarter in last Saturday’s overtime loss against Tulsa.

The LSU women’s basketball team has begun practice as they begin the post Angel Reese era. It’s year number 40 as a coach for Kimy Mulkey who believes this Lady Tigers squad has a good mix of experience and young players. LSU will feature a good backcourt with Flau’jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams.

Veteran Lucas Patrick moved from guard to center during Sunday’s loss to the Eagles and he’ll likely take over at center. But McCoy is considered the glue of the offensive line and his absence in Philadelphia’s loss was evident.

 

New Orleans will be at Atlanta this Sunday and the Falcons lost their starting Drew Dalman. He was placed on injured reserve today with a high ankle sprain. Atlanta could also be without starting right tackle Kaleb McCray who left last Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs with an injury.

Former LSU star Jayden Daniels is the talk of the NFL today as he put on a historic performance last night as the Commanders defeated Joe Burrow and the Bengals 38 to 33. In his third NFL game, Daniels set an NFL rookie record for a completion percentage of 91 percent. The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner also accounted for three touchdowns.

The LSU Tigers are facing a very good offensive team this week. After opening the season with losses to North Texas and Ohio, South Alabama has scored a combined 135 points in blowout victories over Northwestern State and Appalachian State.

Jaguars starting quarterback is a redshirt freshman, Gio Lopez, who rushed and threw for over 100 yards last week. And freshman running back Fluff Bothwell is averaging nearly ten yards a carry. Coach Brian Kelly…

The Pac-12 approached Tulane and several other schools in the American Athletic Conference to join a new look Pac-12. However, Tulane and the other schools are staying in the A-A-C.

LSU lost veteran defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory to an Achilles tendon injury in the home opener to Nicholls.

The Saints lost starting center Erik McCoy to a groin injury early in its 15-12 loss to Philadelphia yesterday. New Orleans went on to accumulate only 219 yards of total offense. Coach Dennis Allen didn’t have any update on the severity of McCoy’s injury. New Orleans will visit Atlanta this Sunday. The Falcons lost to the Chiefs last night.

Grambling improved to 3-and-1 with a 41-to-20 win over Jackson State as the Tigers defense forced five turnovers. Grambling is in Dallas this Saturday for their matchup against Prairie View.
