Louisiana has set an in person early voting record, as 849-thousand voters cast their ballots during the early voting period from October 18th to 29th. Early voting ended yesterday and Deputy Secretary for the Secretary of State, Joel Watson, says the next big deadline is absentee balloting. Watson says voters have until Frliday afternoon to request an absentee ballot and it must be returned by Monday at 4:30…

St. Tammany Parish coroner Doctor Christopher Tape is warning the public about the use of the over-the-counter supplement Kratom. Tape says the autopsy of a 36-year-old woman who recently died showed she had a lethal dose of Kratom in her body. Tape says Kratom is mainly used to provide a burst of energy, but it you take too much, it can be lethal.

Louisiana Tech’s troubles on offense continued last night as the Bulldogs lost at Sam Houston State nine to three. Tech turned it over four times and a change at quarterback could not produce any points. Tech is now 3-and-5 on the season and will host Jacksonville State for homecoming on November 9th.

A big factor in LSU’s loss to Texas A-and-M on Saturday was the Tigers inability to stop back-up quarterback Marcel Reed. The Aggies second string signal caller helped provide a spark for A-and-M to rally back from a ten-point deficit. Coach Brian Kelly’s staff has been criticized for not being prepared for the possibility that Reed would play, since he has started multiple games this year. Kelly spoke about their preparation for Reed during SEC Coaches Zoom call…

A 14-year-old boy is killed in a shooting in Terrebonne Parish. The shooting happened last Friday in a neighborhood in Chauvin, and the boy’s body was found in a wooded area. First Lieutenant Blake Tabor says the boy’s identity, which the sheriff’s office is not releasing, led to another discovery.

Lieutenant Tabor says the 14-year-old was breaking into the vehicles with two other juveniles, one of whom admitted to shooting the boy to death.

 The Humane Society of Louisiana is offering a 500-dollar reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a driver who threw three German Shepherd puppies out the window of a pickup truck in Avoyelles Parish, killing them. The incident happened back on October 8th.

 We are awaiting a report from State Police on a explosion at Camp Minden in Webster Parish. Employees have been evacuated. No injuries have been reported.

 

 A special session on tax reform starts a week from now as Governor Jeff Landry looks to reduce corporate and income rates, while broadening the services subject to sales taxes. State Senators did not go along with all of Landry’s proposals earlier this year, but Senate President Cameron Henry says the Louisiana Senate is eager to deliver meaningful tax reform…

The State Fair of Louisiana opens today in Shreveport. Marketing Manager Russell Adams says the State Fair will once again have the full complement of deep-fried, artery-clogging fair food.

Offensively, the Cajuns got on the scoreboard with a 64-yard touchdown run from Dreyln Washington in the first quarter. Ben Woolridge threw a touchdown pass to Caden Jensen. Woolridge threw for 252 yards and rushed for another 39 yards. U-L Lafayette is in a great position to play in the Sun Belt Championship game.

Louisiana Tech’s offensive struggles continued last night as the Bulldogs lost to Sam Houston nine to three. Coach Sonny Cumbie made a change at quarterback, but it still didn’t produce any touchdowns. Tech is now 3-and-5 on the season and will host Jacksonville State a week from Saturday.

After a tough loss to Texas A&M in College Station, the LSU Tigers have two weeks to prepare for their game against Alabama. After practice yesterday, Head Coach Brian Kelly talked about the team’s lack of running game against the Aggies.

The Saints return to practice today to prepare for this Sunday’s game against Carolina. We’ll see if Derek Carr returns after missing the last three games with an oblique injury.

The Pelicans fell to two and two in the season, with a 124 to 106 loss at Golden State. The same two teams will play again tonight in San Francisco.

Grambling Coach Mickey Joseph has been fined five-thousand dollars by the SWAC for his criticism of the officials. During yesterday’s zoom conference call involving all of  the league’s coaches, Joseph expressed his unhappiness about the seven penalties his team drew for 104 yards in Saturday’s touchdown loss to Texas Southern…

LSU and Alabama has been set for a 6:30 PM kick-off on November ninth. Some betting sites have the Tigers a slight favorite, while others have the Crimson Tide favorite by as much as 2.5 points.

St. Martinville Police Chief Ricky Martin credits a city-wide camera system for allowing them to quickly arrest 22-year-old Zachyric Gardner for a fatal shooting that occurred as St. Martinville fans were tailgating and celebrating homecoming at last Friday’s game…

Former State Police Trooper Kory York has avoided jail time for his role in the 2019 fatal arrest of Ronald Greene, a black motorist who was beaten and tased by officers following a high-speed chase in Union Parish. York was facing eight counts of malfeasance in office, but York entered a plea of no contest to simple battery and was placed on one year of supervised probation and must perform 160 hours of community service.

We’re learning new information about a shooting that ruined a homecoming football game Friday night. Andrew Greenstein reports.
