The Pelicans fell to 3-and-8 on the season last night as they could not hold on to a late lead and fell to the Brooklyn Nets 107 to 105. And another key member of the Pels has a significant injury. Jose Alvardo is expected to miss six weeks with a hamstring injury.

The seventh ranked LSU women’s basketball team had an easy time beating Charleston Southern today as the final score was 117 to 44 in the annual field trip game. Aneesah Morrow had 21 points and 20 rebounds and Flaue’Jae Johnson surpassed one-thousand points in her career by scoring 18 points.

The ULM Warhawks enter this Saturday’s football game against Auburn on a three-game losing streak. Coach Bryan Vincent says his team is going through a tough time, but they still have the potential to finish with a winning record…

A federal judge has blocked Louisiana from implementing a law that the Ten Commandments be displayed in every public classroom by January first. Judge John deGravelles says the law is unconstitutional on its face. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill says they will appeal. Loyola University Law Professor Dane Ciolino says it’s likely this case will reach the U-S Supreme Court…

It’s not official yet, but US House Speaker Mike Johnson is expecting Republicans will retain their majority in the House and he expects it to grow over the current slim margin Johnson says he did more than 360 campaign events across 40 states to secure a GOP majority in the House…

The Louisiana House has approved bills today to cut Louisiana’s state income tax to a flat three percent rate and a measure to abolish the corporate franchise tax businesses pay. Tomorrow, the House Ways and Means Committee will debate legislation that will impose sales taxes on 41 services that are currently not taxed. Dog grooming is one of these services. NFIB state director Leah Long says many small businesses are not ready to administer this tax…

Long says NFIB is working with the Landry Administration and the Department of Revenue to tweak some language in the bill to make it more friendly for small business owners.

The Southeastern Conference has fined LSU 250-thousand because its fans threw bottles and other trash on the field after a face mask penalty was called against LSU in the third quarter of Saturday night’s loss to Alabama. If LSU can identify those who threw thrash on the field, they will be barred from attending another LSU athletic even this year.

The high school football playoff brackets are out and there are 208 schools who have visions of making it to the state championship game. In Division One select, Edna Karr and Alexandria Senior High are the top two seeds, but LHSAA Network reporter Spencer Verrett (veh-RET) says there are three schools from the Lafayette area that could play in the prep Classic…

A Federal Judge in Baton Rouge issued a temporary injunction against Louisiana’s law requiring the posting of the Ten Commandments in public classrooms, preventing it from taking effect. This ruling from Judge John deGravelles, follows a lawsuit filed by parents and clergy opposing the measure. Loyola Law Professor Dane Ciolino says the endgame is getting this case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Which Louisianians could be considered for President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet? LSU-Shreveport Political Science Professor Jeffrey Sadow (SAD-ow) says the most likely one to join the new Trump administration is State Education Superintendent Cade Brumley, who might be in consideration for Secretary of Education.

State Treasurer John Fleming says President-elect Donald Trump has contacted him about a possible appointment in the Trump administration and in an interview with the USA Today Network, Fleming says he would be interested in a senior position.

The Louisiana Motor Transport Association says Insurance costs again rank as the top concern for Louisiana’s trucking industry. LMTA’s executive director Renee Amar says state lawmakers must address soaring insurance premiums…

U-S District Judge John deGravelles issued a ruling this morning that says Louisiana can not move forward with a law that requires public schools and universities to post the Ten Commandments in every classroom. Judge deGravelles calls Louisiana’s Ten Commandments Law facially unconstitutional. Attorney General Liz Murrill strongly disagrees with the court’s decision and plans an immediate appeal.

The spectacle is over, but questions about the tiger brought into Death Valley on Saturday night linger on. Andrew Greenstein reports.

The Louisiana Motor Transport Association is out with its biggest current concerns for the trucking industry. Executive Director Renee Amar (AY-mar) says at the top of the list is soaring insurance premiums.

The loss to the Crimson Tide likely knocked the Tigers out of playoff contention, but Kelly says the focus for his team the rest of the way is to be more consistent

The SEC has fined LSU 250-thousand because dozens of fans threw water bottles and other trash on the field after a facemask penalty was called against the Tigers in the third quarter of Saturday night’s game. The league has also ordered the school to use security video to identify fans who threw something on the field and ban them from any other LSU athletic event for the remainder of the season.

In college hoops last night….Alabama defeated McNeese 72 to 64, Oklahoma knocked off Northwestern State 73 to 57 despite 20 points from Micah Thomas and Florida defeated Grambling 86 to 62.

In the NBA, the Pelicans lost their fifth straight, falling to the Brooklyn Nets 107 to 105 last night. They missed their last eight shots New Orleans is now 3-and-8.

Darren Rizzi was a winner in his first game as a head coach in the NFL. Rizzi helped lead New Orleans to a 20-17 win over the Atlanta Falcons to end a seven-game losing streak. Rizzi received a game ball during the postgame locker room celebration, but he says everyone in the organization deserves a game ball…

The Saints will try to make it two wins in a row this Sunday when they host Cleveland. The Browns are expected to start former Saint Jameis Winston at quarterback.

 

The Pelicans host the Brooklyn Nets tonight and Trey Murphy will make his season debut for New Orleans. Murphy has been out with a right hamstring injury. But Zion Williamson is expected to miss the next several weeks with a hamstring strain.

 

Tonight in college hoops…McNeese is at Alabama, Northwestern State visits Oklahoma and Grambling travels to Florida.

Tyrann Mathieu had a key interception late in the game; Cam Jordan had his first sack of the season and Alvin Kamara became the franchise’s all-time leading rusher.
