It’s estimated over three-thousand people attended Saturday’s prayer rally on the LSU campus that featured Governor Bobby Jindal. The event was also streamed live on God T-V and the governor, who spoke a couple of times, told the crowd in the Maravich Center why this event was needed

Jindal, who is considering a campaign for President, didn’t talk politics while on the stage, but he did ask the crowd to pray for President Barack Obama. Jindal also said that God has given us the book of life

An accidental shooting at a Shreveport casino resulted in a man being hospitalized with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Shreveport Police Cpl. Breck Scott says 34-year-old Jerry Grimes arrived at the casino valet early this morning…

Scott says Grimes was removing his firearm from his person and placing it in the trunk of his car when it discharged, shooting him in the upper thigh. Grimes was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  He says the investigation is ongoing, but Grimes had no signs of impairment…

He says Grimes had no prior felony convictions that would make it illegal for him to carry a firearm. No charges have been filed at this time. Scott says, in the end, it’s fortunate that nothing more serious happened in this incident…

The LSU Tigers are on a two-game winning streak after beating Vanderbilt in overtime on Saturday. The Bayou Bengals host South Carolina on Wednesday night.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball rebounded from its first loss in Conference USA action by beating rice on Saturday 58-45. The Bulldogs are six and one in the league and they’ll host Western Kentucky on Thursday night, who is a perfect 7-and-0 in league play.

U-L-M, who once won six in a row, has now lost two straight. The Warhawks are at Troy this Thursday.

In the NBA…the Pelicans have won three straight as they defeated Dallas 109-to-106 last night. Anthony Davis had 28 points and 10 reobunds. The Pels will go for their fourth win in a row tonight as they host the 76ers.

In the NFL Pro Bowl last night…Saints tight end Jimmy Graham had two touchdown grabs as Team Michael Irvin beat Chris Carter’s team 32-28.

The LSU Tigers found out today that they are ranked second in the Baseball America preseason poll. Vanderbilt, who is the defending national champs, are ranked number one. Houston is number three. It was the Cougars who defeated the Tigers in last year’s regional.

When it comes to 2015, LSU will have several young pitchers on the mound, but Coach Paul Mainieri says he has confidence he’ll have a strong staff by the end of the season, because of pitching coach Alan Dunn…

Council for a Better Louisiana President Barry Erwin says it’s likely mid-year cuts will be needed to offset the deficit. He says a big reason for the shortfall, lower than expected oil prices…:

Erwin says it’s hard to predict how much will be cut this fiscal year. He says we already had a projected shortfall of $1.4 billion for next fiscal year but more than likely that will grow as oil prices keep plummeting…:

It’s reported Kennedy has hired Virginia-based North Star Opinion Research to poll the races for governor, attorney general, and if there was a special US Senate election in 2016. Kennedy says, at this time, he’s keeping his options open…

The survey shows the Treasurer topping a possible attorney general’s race and the leading Republican in a US Senate race should David Vitter become governor. Kennedy says he’s had a number of different groups talk to him about serving in a different capacity…

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office issued a release reminding those who plan to come to the trial no public demonstrations are allowed in or near the Courthouse. They say signs, buttons or t-shirts addressing the case are prohibited. Senate President John Alario plans to meet with Governor Jindal this week to discuss ways to reduce a potential budget cut of up to $380 million dollars to Louisiana’s public colleges. He says that kind of cut would completely devastate higher education not only to the universities but to the children who are seeking it…:

LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri says sophomore left-hander Jared Poche will start opening day on February 13th against Kansas, but he’s not sure on what the rest of his starting rotation will look like. Mainieri says he has several freshmen to choose from and the situation will play itself out during the non-conference portion of the schedule

Saints and Pelicans Owner Tom Benson said today that he feels great, just like a 50-year-old. Benson made those comments to a television reporter who was standing outside of the Saints facility waiting for him to arrive this morning. His daughter, Renee Benson, and two of his granddaugthers have filed a lawsuit against him in an attempt to stop a succession plan that will give control of the two teams to his wife Gayle.

Benson’s Pelicans are in Minnesota to take on the Timberwolves tonight. New Orleans seeking to win back-to-back games for the first time in over a month. Tip off tonight is at 7:00.

In college hoops on Saturday…the LSU Tigers are seeking their second straight win as they visit Vanderbilt at 5 PM. Louisiana Tech is at Rice, U-L-M hosts Georgia Southern, the Cajuns are at Georgia State and Northwestern State hosts McNeese State.

College baseball teams have begun full squad practices as they get ready for the 2015 season. This year the NCAA will use a new baseball that has lower seems, in the hopes it leads to more home runs. Coach Paul Mainieri says it does appear that these new baseballs will go farther…

In college football…LSU’s new defensive line coach Ed Orgeron’s contract is two years, with an annual salary of 450-thousand dollars. The LSU Board of Supervisors is expected to approve it at their next meeting.

Sunday is the N-F-L Pro bowl. Saints tight end Jimmy Graham says if he catches a touchdown, he’ll bring back his post-TD celebration by dunking the football through the goal posts.

Saints and Pelicans Owner Tom Benson has released a statement expressing his disappointment over the lawsuit filed by his daughter and two grandchildren claiming he’s mentally unfit to change a succession plan that puts Benson’s wife, Gayle, in control of both professional franchises once he dies. As far as that lawsuit goes claiming Beson is incapacitated, Legal analyst Tim Meche says the plantiffs will have to prove Benson is not capable of making decisions on his own…

The Pelicans Anthony Davis has been named a starter in the NBA All-Star game. First one to do that from New Orleans since Chris Paul did it in 2011. The Pels are at Minnesota tonight.

The NFL Pro Bowl Game is this Sunday. Saints tight end Jimmy Graham tells the New Orleans Times-Picayune he’ll use this game to determine whether he’ll need surgery on his shoulder.

In college basketball…Louisiana Tech lost its first Conference USA Game of the season on Saturday as the Bulldogs lost to North Texas 73-66. Tech trailed at halftime by 21 points. U-L-M’s six-game winning streak was snapped last night as they fell to Texas-Arlington 61-57. And the Ragin Cajuns ended a three-game losing streak with a 96-59 victory over Arkansas State.

Full squad practices begin today for college baseball teams. The LSU Tigers are ranked ninth in the Division One-Baseball-dot-com’s preseason ranking. One of there writers, Aaron Fitt, says LSU’s pitching staff is talented, but young and inexperienced…

Relatives of Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson file a lawsuit that attempts to block a re-written succession plan that puts Benson’s wife, Gayle, in control of both professional sports franchises. Benson’s daughter, Renee, and her two children, alleged that Gayle Benson took advantage of the 87-year-old’s failing physical and mental health, by getting him to change the succession plan.

The New Orleans City Council approved an ordinance that will ban smoking in bars and casinos throughout the city. West Monroe Representative Frank Hoffman says a public smoking ban in New Orleans could convince legislators it’s time to do it statewide…

Hoffman authored legislation that went into effect at the start of the year that prohibits smoking near the entrance of state buildings.

Republican supporters of Governor Bobby Jindal establish a super PAC that could assist him in a presidential bid. Former Louisiana Congressman, Bob Livingston, is the chairman of the political action committee, called Believe Again PAC. Livingston acknowledges this is the first step in a possible run for the White House…

Rita Benson Leblanc is fighting back, as she’s filed a lawsuit in Orleans Civil Court claiming that Tom Benson is incapiciated and not mentally fit to decide succession plans. In the suit, the former heirs claim Mr Benson has been heavily medicated, because of failing health.

An M-R-I has revealed that Lakers star Kobe Bryant suffered a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder in the second half of last night’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans. It’s not clear how long Bryant will be out. The Pelicans are off tonight as they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves tomorrow night.

The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Department has arrested a 24-year-old woman in the May 2014 death of her fiance’s 3-year-old son. After an eight month investigation, Brittany Marie Prejean of Rayne is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Keaghyn Parsons. Spokesperson Maxine Trahan says Prejan was often left to care for the toddler…

Prejean was caring for the toddler the day of his death. Trahan says an autopsy was performed on Parsons and the Calcasieu Parish Coroner ruled his death a homicide. Trahan says it was determined that the child had a perforation of the small intestine…

Trahan says the cause of death was from a perforation of the small intestine due to blunt force trauma. She says Prejean was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail… (No bond has been set, at this time.)

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is offering a $10,000 reward for information about the whooping crane that was shot in Vermilion Parish then later died late last year. Einck says the whooping crane is one of the world’s most endangered birds and they want to make it clear that there are serious repercussions  from killing one. He says this is now the 6th bird that has been shot and killed in Louisiana…:

The New Orleans City Council today approved a smoking ban at bars and casinos by a 7-0 vote. This is a big win for supporters who say it’s a public health issue for workers and patrons of these establishments. Tonia Moore is with the Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco Free Living. She says they are thrilled this initiative had so much support…:

Benson says the reason for his decision is about laying the foundation for the Organiziation to continue to be successful.

Benson’s Pelicans won last night, beating the Los Angeles Lakers 96-80. Anthony Davis scored 20 of his 29 points in the second half. The win puts New Orleans back at the five-hundred mark at 21-and-21. And they’ll be without point guard Jrue Holiday for the next two to four weeks because of a stress reaction in his right leg.

Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis has confirmed that former Dolphins general Jeff Ireland has joined the Saints’ front office. Ireland doesn’t have an official title yet, but he is expected to oversee college scouting and help in other areas of the organiziation. Not only is Ireland a former general manager, but he’s also worked as a scout with the Chiefs and Cowboys. Loomis says Ireland has done some great work in the NFL…

In college football…Louisiana Tech has named Rick Petri as its new defensive line coach. He held the same job at Duke over the last four seasons, helping the Blue Devils win 28 games during that span. He was also was an assistant coach for the Bulldogs in 1992.

Falling oil prices has resulted in Lafayette-based Stone Energy Company to announce it will cut spending this year by more than half of what they spent in 2014. Gifford Briggs, vice president of the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association, says Stone Energy is not the only oil company scaling back..

The price of oil is trading at 47-dollars a barrel today.

According to the U-S Department of Health and Human Services, 137-thousand people in Louisiana have signed up for health insurance through the federal marketplace. Open enrollment ends on February 15th. More information can be found at health-care-dot-gov.

During an interview on Fox News today, Governor Bobby Jindal was asked about the state’s budget shortfall that has been pegged at one-point-four billion dollars. Jindal explained why the state is in this situation….

Jindal also continued to make the case that there are “No Go Zones” in European neighborhoods and expressed concern that “No Go Zones” could pop up in the US if the federal government doesn’t take steps to make sure immigrants embrace America’s culture.

LSU football received a verbal commitment from one of the top high school prospects in the state, Riverdale defensive back Donte Jackson, who had five interceptions last season The 2015 recruiting class also features a couple of other highly thought of defensive backs in Kevin Toliver and Xavier Lewis.
