Officials with the National Weather Service say the Red River in Shreveport reached its crest, within an inch, this morning. Hydrologist C.S. Ross says the river was at 36.82 feet as of 8AM this morning. Ross says there is major flooding happening in the Caddo/Bossier area…

He says the rising waters in the Red River is causing backwater flooding along tributaries in the area. Ross says the flooding in the Shreveport area is just the beginning…

This crest of the Red River in Shreveport is the highest since 1945. Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Cindy Chadwick says there are about 300 homes in Caddo Parish have been affected by flood waters…

One of the homes that is flooded is the home of Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prater. She says about 30 roads are closed in the area due to flood waters. Chadwick says officials will continue their efforts to keep flood damage to a minimum…

The LSU Tiger Baseball team is headed to Omaha to play in the College World Series for the 17th time and the first since 2013. The Tigers defeated UL-Lafayette on Sunday 6-3. After the game, Coach Paul Mainieri told the media that he got an email from the best friend of Lance Bergeron, one of the National Guardsmen who lost his life in the Blackhawk helicopter crash…:

A state Senator tried to amend the controversial higher ecucation tax credit by renaming it the DUMB fund. Ville Platte Senator Eric LaFleur wanted to change the name of the SAVE act, which Governor Jindal is pushing in order to have a revenue neutral budget. LaFleur says the amendment is strictly technical and only describes the bill for what it is…

LaFleur’s amendment would change SAVE, “Students Assessment for a Valuable Education”, with DUMB, “Don’t Understand the Meaning of Bill”. Many lawmakers are not supportive of the SAVE act which they say is a budget gimmick and LaFleur’s amendment is evidence of legislators frustrations. SAVE act author, Mandeville Senator Jack Donahue, was not amused…

The LSU Baseball team defeated UL Lafayette 6 to 3 last night to punch their ticket to Omaha. This is LSU’s 17th trip to the College World Series and first since 2013. Shortstop Alex Bregman says the Tigers can’t wait…

Tonight is another big night for Bregman as he’ll be selected in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft. Bregman is expected to be a top ten pick. Tigers center fielder Andrew Stevenson could also be a late first round pick and the same could occur for UL Lafayette shortstop Blake Trahan.

Who LSU will play in its first game in the College World Series will be determined tonight. They’lll face either Texas A-and-M or TCU. The Aggies and Horned Frogs face off tonight in Fort Worth in a winner take all contest.

Former Saints cornerback and Louisiana native Tracy Porter has signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears. This will be Porter’s eighth season in the NFL. Last year he only played in three games for the Redskins, because of injuries. Of course, he’ll always be remembered for his intercpetion of Peyton Manning and return for a touchdown when the Saints beat the Colts in the Super Bowl.

The Sun Belt–ESPN 3 announce their coverage for the first three weeks of the football season. In week two…ESPN will have coverage of the Ragin Cajuns game against Northwestern State and Nicholls State’s game against UL-Monroe will also appear on ESPN three. Both games will kick-off at six PM.

Southeastern Louisiana’s home game against Lamar has been moved to October first because of television. The game will be a part of the Southland’s television package. The Lions will play three Thursday night games this year. The season opener against Northwestern State and the regular season finale against Nicholls State on November 19th.

The Louisiana House could vote on a resolution to hold a veto override session. Governor Jindal said he’ll veto revenue generating bills, if the legislature doesn’t pass a tax offset, so he can keep his “no tax” pledge. Alexandria Representative Lance Harris, chairs the House Republican Legislative Delegation, and he says there’s a desire in the House for an override session, if it gets to that point

Lawmakers have until 6 PM on Thursday to finish their legislative work and that includes approving a balanced budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1st. Harris it’s his hope lawmakers will not need to call for an override veto session

So far house members have yet to support a higher education tax credit that is needed to provide the offset Jindal needs to sign the hundreds of million of dollars in tax measures the legislature is poised to approve. Harris says legislators are hoping a budget solution  can be found…

With a few days left in the legislative session, it looks like Louisiana businesses are the big losers. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says business lobbyist groups are not happy the legislature is pushing to reduce hundreds of millions of dollars in tax credits and rebates many companies enjoy

Legislators are tyring to close a one-point-six billion dollar shortfall in order to pass a budget that doesn’t dramatically cut funding for higher education and health care. Pinsonat says the scaling back of tax exemptions for businesses was how much of the money was raised, which upsets the business community

Pinsonat says legislators who voted to take away some of the tax exemptions from businesses, will not get the endorsement of the Louisiana Association of Business Industry in the fall election

The state Senate voted to increase the cigarette tax by 72 cents which would bring it up to $1.08 and match the Southern regional average. Lawmakers are trying to raise revenue to plug the budget hole and prevent massive cuts to higher ed and health care. The state senate has been busy passing bills. The upper chamber approved a key Common Core comprise legislation that sets up a review process of the academic standards. The Senate also approved a 72-cent tax increase on a pack of cigarette, which is much higher than what the House approved. And the Senate has agreed to raise title fees when you purchase a vehicle by 50-dollars.

Willie “Dynamite” Larkin is the new president at Grambling State University. During the selection process, Larkin was interviewed by faculty and staff and “Dynamite,” who is also a motivational speaker, scored well with those two groups…:

Ragin Cajuns Coach Tony Robichaux announced today that freshman right-hander Wyatt Marks will start tomorrow night in game one of the Super Regional series against LSU. Freshman left-hander Gunner Leger will start game two on Sunday.

Both teams met with the media today at Alex Box Stadium, after going through batting practice. Senior third baseman Tyler Girouard says there’s no bad blood between these two schools, even though the two fan bases have been going back and forth throughout the week…

There’s some bad news involving Saints pass rusher Junior Galette. He reportedly injured his pectoral muscle and may need surgery. If he undergoes surgery, Galette will not be be able to return until late in the season. Galette had ten sacks last season.

Many people in Louisiana watched last night’s Game One of the NBA Finals, which saw Golden State defeat Cleveland in overtime. There were an estimated 17.8 million viewers nationwide, which is the largest game one audience ever on ABC. But it’s likely that will be highest viewed game of the series, because the Cavs have announced Kyrie Irving is done for the finals after suffering a fractured kneecap.

Tickets are hard to come by for this weekend’s Super Regional series between LSU and UL Lafayette. The games are sold out, so you’re only option, if you want to get into Alex Box Stadium is the secondary ticket market. Stub-Hub’s Allison Salcedo says some of the best deals are right before gametime.

College Baseball fans in Louisiana are going nuts for tickets to the LSU/UL-Lafayette Super Regional this weekend at The Box. Seats are going for hundreds of dollars on secondary markets. Stubhub.com spokeswoman Allison Salcedo (Sal-Say-Doe) says the average price for Games 1 and 2 are around $195 which is huge for college baseball…:

Standing room only tickets for the matchup went on sale Friday morning at 8am and were all gone in 5 minutes. They were $30 and included passes to all three games with each buyer able to get up to four tickets. Salcedo says you’ll have to dish out more than that for a series pass on their site…:

There’s some bad injury news invovling the New Orleans Saints. Pass rusher Junior Galette reportedly injured his pectoral muscle and may need surgery. If he undergoes surgery, he’ll miss a good portion of the season. Galette didn’t participate in yesterday’s O-T-A session and Anthony Spencer took most of the snaps as his replacement.

It’s day five of the competency hearing for Saints and Pelicans Owner Tom Benson. Benson’s right-hand man, Dennis Lauscha, testifies today. He’s a witness for Benson’s team of lawyers.

Andy Fox has been named the new director of basketball operations for Louisiana Tech. Fox has been at Tulane the five previous seasons as an assistant coach and director of operations.

And it’s a free fishing weekend, which means you don’t need a license to drop a line in one of Louisiana’s lakes, marshes or bayous. The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries hopes the weekend will introduce newcomers and people with rusty skills to one of Louisiana’s most popular sports.

The committee lowered the cap for film tax credits from $200 million to $180 million. Louisiana film industry consultant, Sherri McConnell, says this causes concern about projects already in the pipeline, as well as the future growth of the industry…:

When you look at the seeds, the Fighting Tigers are the favorite in the Super Regional series. LSU is a national two seed in the NCAA Tournament, while the Ragin Cajuns were a three-seed in the Houston Regional. Coach Paul Mainieri says seeds don’t mean anything at this point, and they learned that lesson when Stony Brook, a fourth-seed, beat the Tigers in the Super Regionals in 2012…

Mainieri has decided to send freshman Alex Lange to the mound for game one. Lange is 11-and-0 with a 1.76 ERA. No word on who will start game two for the Tigers.

UL Lafayette could start Gunner Leger in game. The freshman is 6-and-4 with 2.87 ERA.

At Saints OTA, Coach Sean Payton talked about a simpler approach on defense. Payton says they are doing it to improve execution and reduce variables. Payton says it’s something they have to do, after giving up several big plays last season.

Also at Saints OTA, running back Mark Ingram didn’t participate. Payton says he’s resting a minor foot-slash-ankle injury.

Former LSU Tiger Trindon Holliday has signed with the Oakland Raiders. Holliday played for three different teams in 2014, before he was released by San Francisco 49ers.

The LSU men’s golf team returned to Baton Rouge today after winning the program’s first national title in 60 years. The Tigers defeated USC in match-play to claim the championship trophy. Ben Taylor’s nine-foot par putt on 18 wrapped up LSU’s first men’s golf championship since 1955.

The R-and-L Carriers New Orleans Bowl is returning to a primetime kickoff. The game this year will be played on Saturday, December 19th at 8 PM in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Last year’s game, which featured the Ragin Cajuns for a third consecutive year, kicked-off at 10 A-M.

Col Pete Schneider with LANG says spatial disorientation of both pilots caused them to lose control of the aircraft…:

Schneider says the thorough investigation was conducted jointly by LANG and US Special Operations Command. He says the spatial disorientation was due to the pilots failing to transition from visual flight procedures to instrument flight as a thick sea of fog rolled into the training area…:

The accident occurred during a joint training mission. He says an 30% of all aviation accidents are caused by spatial disorientation and an important result of this investigation is to let everyone know what happened…:

Officials with the “Hollywood South” movie industry are apprehensive about changes made by the Senate Finance Committee to a bill that reforms the film tax credit program. The committee lowered the cap for film tax credits from $200 million to $180 million. Louisiana film industry consultant, Sherri McConnell, says this causes concern about projects already in the pipeline, as well as the future growth of the industry…
