Last night it was dinner with Buffalo Bills head football coach Rex Ryan at a Baton Rouge restaurant and today former LSU teammates and current members of the Miami Dolphins flew into Baton Rouge to meet with La’el Collins. Linebacker Kelvin Shepard and wide receiver Jarvis Landry are among the group from Miami, who are apparently trying to convince Collins to sign with the Dolphins. Several teams are reportedly interested in Collins now that Baton Rouge police say he is still not a suspect in a double murder, where a pregnant woman and her one-week old child died as a result of a shooting on April 24th.

The Saints have announced they will have players report for training camp on July 29th at the Greenbrier in West Virginia. The same place they held training camp last year. New Orleans will stay at the Greenbrier until August 20th and training camp will resume at the team’s training facility in Metairie on August 24th.

The LSU Tigers remain ranked number one in the college baseball polls with about two weeks left in the regular season. In the Collegiate Baseball, the Tigers are ranked ahead Texas A-and-M. The Bayou Bengals will host Missouri this weekend. Missouri is ranked 21st by Baseball America. Coach Paul Mainieri is optimistic Andrew Stevenson will be able to play in this series, after missing last Saturday’s game with a hamstring injury.

In college baseball action tonight….McNeese State is at Houston. The Cowboys have won five in a row, two of those games by just one run, to raise their overall record to 28-and-20. Grambling State hosts Alcorn State as the Tigers look to snap a five game losing streak.

Louisiana Tech’s Breshon Kimbell has been named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association baseball player of the week. He hit .571 at the plate last week. Tate Scioneaux of Southeastern Louisiana is the pitcher of the week as he struck out 11 in a shutout victory over Lamar.

The SEC, Sun Belt and Southland softball tournaments begin tomorrow. LSU is hosting the SEC Tournament. The Tigers are a four-seed and get a first round bye.

After interviewing former LSU Tiger La’el Collins Monday, The Baton Rouge Police Department says he is still not a suspect in the April 24th murder of Brittney Mills. However, Corporal Don Coppola says they may need Collins to stay involved in the investigation…

Coppola says they are still trying to gather information from people who may have known the victim.

Now that Collins has spoken with police and is still not considered a suspect, NFL teams are looking to sign the first-round talent as an undrafted rookie. The All-SEC player met with Buffalo Bills Coach Rex Ryan last night at a Baton Rouge restaurant and Collins will reportedly meet with the Miami Dolphins today.

Pelicans star Anthony Davis finished fifth in the NBA MVP voting. Stephen Curry won the award as he received 100 of 130 first place votes.

Because its finals week at LSU, the Tigers baseball team does not have a midweek game this week. So Coach Paul Mainieri can look ahead to this weekend’s series against Missouri. And at this time, Mainieri is not sure who will start the series finale. Austin Bain has been the game number three starter, but he had a rough outing in Starkville last weekend.

Baton Rouge Police say after meeting with former LSU offensive lineman La’el Collins, he is still not a suspect in the murder of Brittney Mills and her infant child, Brenton Mills. Brittney was fatally shot on April 24th, while eight months pregnant, and then her baby died a week later after she was able to give birth.

Collins attorney, Jim Boren, says the Baton Rouge native is cooperating with the investigation and ready to get his NFL career started…

Boren would not say whether or not Collins submitted to a paternity test, as it’s been reported that Collins and Mills were romantically involved.

Collins continues to be without a team after last week’s NFL draft. Meanwhile, the Saints have signed 13 undrafted free agents. After not drafting a wide receiver, they signed two of them today, Malcolme Kennedy of Texas A-and-M and R-J Harris of New Hampshire.

In the 2015 draft, the Saints used six of their nine draft picks to select players on the defensive side of the ball. Head Coach Sean Payton hopes all of them can contribute in some way…
