The 2016 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot has been released. Former LSU quarterback Bert Jones, who finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting in 1972, is the ballot and so is former Louisiana Tech football coach Maxie Lambert, who led the Bulldogs to three consecutive Division Two national titles from 1972 to 74.

Former LSU quarterback Bert Jones is on the ballot to be inducted into the 2016 College Football Hall of Fame. Former Louisiana Tech football coach and athletic director Maxie Lambright is also on the ballot. Lambright coached the Bulldogs from 167-78, leading Tech to three consecutive Division Two national titles.

State Treasurer John Kennedy is concerned some of the 11 revenue generating bills approved by the state House were not passed constitutionally. The 11 House bills would raise approximately $615 million dollars to help deal with the current budget crisis. Five of those bills passed with a simple majority from the House, which Kennedy says makes them unconstitutional…

Kennedy says the state Constitution requires that any new tax, raise in an existing tax, or change of an existing tax exemption receive a two-thirds majority vote from both the House and Senate to become law. He says the legislature is relying on a 1993 attorney general’s opinion that states that a simple majority is required to suspend an existing tax exemption…

However, Kennedy says that opinion misses the mark because it deals with suspending tax exemptions, not scaling them back. The five bills in question are all related to scaling back tax exemptions and credits. Kennedy says the state constitution doesn’t make an exception for partial exemptions…

The NCAA announces the Super Regional Series between LSU and U-L Lafayette will begin at seven PM on Saturday night. ESPN Two will televise the game. Game two will be played Sunday night at either five or six PM. And if Game three is necessary, a game time will be announced at a later time.

The Ragin Cajuns head into the weekend as underdogs, but UL Lafayette won two games in the Houston Regional by scoring multiple runs in the ninth inning to win. The voice of Ragin Cajuns, Jay Walker, says this team has found ways to get it done…

Walker says the Cajuns will bring a young team to Baton Rouge, their top three starting pitchers are freshmen and so is their closer.

The Saints have reportedly signed defensive end Cam Jordan to a five-year, 60-million dollar contract. 33-million dollars are guaranteed. Jordan had seven and a half sacks last season and has 29 for his career.

Today is day two of the mental competency hearing involving Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson. Benson has been in the courtroom both days and told reporters heading into the courtroom yesterday that he feels good.

The Pelicans have reportedly hired defensive specialist Darren Erman as an assistant coach. Erman spent this past season on the Boston Celtics coaching staff. The Pels are also reportedly interested in adding Robert Pack to the staff as well.

Hammond is once again the host site for the girls basketball state championships. The Louisiana High School Athletic Association accepted their bid over Lake Charles. Lake Charles will once again host the boys state basketball championships and Sulphur will host the baseball championships for another two years.

It will be LSU and U-L Lafayette in a super regional series next weekend at Alex Box Stadium. For the second time in three days, the Tigers defeated UNC-Wilmington two to nothing. Jared Poche threw 8.2 innings of shutout baseball and struck out eight. Coach Paul Mainieri on his sophomore left-hander’s performance…

LSU scored its two runs in the 2nd inning. Chris Chinea had an RBI double and Jake Fraley had an RBI single. LSU will now get ready to play the Ragin Cajuns.

UL Lafayette defeated Rice five to two in Houston. The Most Oustanding Player in the Regional, Evan Powell had a two run single in the fifth inning.

Louisiana Tech will have at least seven football games broadcast on national television this fall. Fox Sports One will televise the games against Western Kentucky and Rice.

The 40th playing of the Independence Bowl has been scheduled for Saturday December 26th at 4:45 PM. An ESPN Network will televise the contest. The Indy Bowl is still trying to nail down a title sponsor for the game, after Duck Commander ended its deal with the bowl game.

New Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry has reportedly agreed to a four-year contract with New Orleans. Jake Madison, who writes for Bourbon Street Shots, says Gentry will bring an up tempo style of basketball to the Crescent City…

The Red is expected to crest there Saturday at 34 feet. Valverde says there is already flooding in the area…

He says farmland and parks along the river are already seeing some flooding. Montra Lockwood with NWS in Lake Charles says the Red River is expected to crest at close to 38 feet next Monday in Alexandria. She says this will put the river in a moderate flood category…

A recent Gallup Poll shows Louisiana has the third highest obesity rate in the country. The Bayou State’s obesity rate stands at 33-percent, compared to the national average of nearly 28-percent. Pennington Biomedical Research Center Assistant Professor, Dr. Amanda Staiano (STY-ano), says the combination of tasty food and sedentary pastimes contribute to the state’s obesity rate…

The survey lists Baton Rouge as the most obese city in the nation with an obesity rate of nearly 36-percent. Staiano says obesity is a complex issue because it involves the foods we eat and the activity we get, not to mention genetics. The LSU Baseball team looks to punch a ticket to the super regionals this afternoon when they battle UNC-Wilmington in the Baton Rouge Regional Finals. The two teams were scheduled to play last night after the Seahawks eliminated Tulane. But the NCAA decided to postpone the game until today, because of the anticipation of more rain in Baton Rouge. LSU athletic director Joe Alleva called it a “ridiculous decision.” Alleva says since LSU is in the winner’s bracket, they should have a compeitive advantage, but that competitive advantage has been lost, since UNCW didn’t have to play two games yesterday…

State lawmakers are looking at increasing title fees by another 50-dollars when a person purchases a new or used vehicle. Senate Transportation Chairman Robert Adley supports the effort. Adley says the additional revenue will go towards State Police operations, so they can stop taking money away from a fund designed to pay for road and bridge work…

Currently, residents pay a title fee of $18.50. Adley says it hasn’t been adjusted since the 1980s and a fee increase can keep State Police from receiving money out of the Transportation Trust Fund, which pays for road repairs

The House Ways and Means Committee hears a Senate-bill today that is needed for the legislature to reach a revenue-neutral budget. The National Weather Service predicts the Red River will crest at 34 feet on June sixth, a one foot increase over the previous crest’s prediction. Officials predict flood conditions to be similiar to that of 1990 or similar past major South Bossier Flood events. Lt. Bill Davis with the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s office says for residents who live in south Bossier, you may want to think about re-locating to higher ground, if not stockpile water and plenty of canned foods…

In response to complaints about Governor Bobby Jindal using his office to send an email calling Senator Rand Paul unsuited to be Commander in Chief, the state Inspector General advised the Governor to use a different method in the future. In the statement, Stephen Street said Jindal could have avoided the complaints by using a private email or non-public website.

The LSU softball team lost 4-nothing to Florida last night in the Women’s College World Series. The Tigers will play again tonight at 8:30 in an elimination game. A man wielding an ax has been arrested after he went after an officer, and fled in his Baton Rouge Police car. Cpl. L’Jean McKneely says they got the call about 41 year-old Deandre Trahan walking around and attempting to burglarize homes, and when the officer arrived and called for back-up, the suspect attacked…
