Former Louisiana Tech star IK Enemkpali met with reporters today after his first practice with the Buffalo Bills. He apologized to the Jets organization and said it was never his intention to hurt anybody. Enemkpali added he’s grateful the Bills gave him a chance, following his release from the Jets for breaking the jaw of quarterback Geno Smith in a locker room fight.

LSU Coach Les Miles says he ran his team through a 30 to 35 play scrimmage today at the team’s practice facility. Miles says he likes how the passing game is coming along and its just not the quarterbacks who are getting better….

Louisiana Tech football announced today that it will open the 2019 season at Texas. The Bulldogs will also visit Clemson in 2022 and kick-off the 2017 season at home against Northwestern State.

Former Southland Conference defensive player of the year, Bryan Smith, will be one of five former Cowboy athletes to be inducted into the McNeese State athletics Hall of Fame this year. Smith holds the school record for career sacks with 31.

A big position battle in camp is at wide receiver as there are a dozen wide outs trying to make the team. Kick-off is set for 6:30.

The Pelicans 2015-16 NBA schedule is out and Anthony Davis and company will appear on national television 21 times, including on opening night and Christmas Day. New Orleans will visit the defending champion Warriors on TNT on October 27th to tip-off the season. The Pels travel to Miami on Christmas Day. Lebron James and the Cavs make their lone trip to the Big Easy on December fourth.

According to the Baton Rouge Advocate, LSU wide receiver Travin Dural along with his cousin, Randall Menard, rescued a woman, who was trapped in an overturned vehicle. The incident happened last month in Dural’s hometown of Breaux Bridge. Dural and his cousin were able to open a rear passenger door, so that the woman was able to get out.

Louisiana Tech football announces they’ll play Texas in 2019. The game is scheduled for August 31st that year in Austin. It will be the first meeting between the two schools on the gridiron. It’s been reported the Bulldogs will get one-point-one million dollars to play the game.

Former Bulldog star IK Enemkpali is now a Buffalo Bill. The Bills claimed him off waivers after he was released by the Jets after breaking the jaw of quarterback Geno Smith with a punch in the locker room.

UL Lafayette held its first scrimmage of fall camp and quarterbacks Brooks Haack, Jalen Nixon and Jordan Davis each directed the number one offense on scoring drivers. Freshman Keenan Barnes caught two TD passes.

A new poll from CNN shows that Governor Bobby Jindal is not gaining ground on the republican presidential front runners in Iowa. Jindal only received support from two percent of the 544 republican likely caucus goers who were surveyed following last week’s debate on Fox News. Donald Trump led the pack at 22-percent.

Trooper Dustin Dwight says a motorcyclist was hit by 31-year-old Mark Montie Jr who pulled his truck out in front of him. He says the motorcyclist, identified as 22-year-old Jerome Rudolph Jr. of Patterson, was pronounced dead on scene…:

Holtz made the comments in response to the Jets releasing Enemkpali after he punched New York quarterback Geno Smith in the face in the locker-room, fracturing his jaw. Holtz says he hates that this happened to IK….

There’s been a very strange court room sketch released today of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady who appeared in federal court as part of a deflategate hearing. In the background of the sketch, it appears LSU’s Les Miles, wearing his customary white hat, is sitting behind Brady. Miles even noticed and went on twitter to say he’s been busy at LSU, and he was not in the court room.

State Police say they are looking for a driver they believe is at fault in a fatal hit and run crash in St. Mary Parish Tuesday evening in Bayou Vista. Trooper Dustin Dwight says the preliminary investigation revealed 31-year-old Mark Montie Jr. of Pineville was pulling out of the Wal-Mart on US 90 and failed to yeild to an oncoming motorcycle…:

State Police say a suspect who was shot by a Union Parish Sheriff’s Deputy and a trooper Tuesday night is in serious condition. Troop F spokesman Michael Reichardt says the sheriff’s office was called out to a disturbance around 10:30pm in Downsville regarding a man who was apparently threatening family members with a firearm…:

The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education approves a plan that will help more low income families receive federal assistance so they can send their young children to daycare. State Superintendent of Education John White says today’s action provides 10 million dollars in subsidies to assist impoverished parents….

The program is called the Child Care Assistance Program. At one time there were about 40-thousand children enrolled, now there are only 15-thousand. White says hopefully this federal assistance can get more kids in daycare…

A Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s deputy is being called a hero today after rescuing three people who were sleeping inside a burning home in Lacassine. Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Chris Ivey says Deputy Josh Bienvenu used his quick thinking after driving by the burning house at around 3:40 Tuesday morning while on duty.

Ivey says when Deputy Bienvenu arrived on the scene, the front of the residence was completely engulfed in flames up to the roof. He says Bienvenu was able to enter the home and locate three occupants sleeping.

But Coach Sean Payton says guys like, former Saints running back Pierre Thomas, may not have made the team in 2007, if there were only two preseason games…

State Police say a 1-year-old, who was riding in the lap of a front seat passenger, was ejected from the vehicle and died from her injuries in a crash that took place in Morehouse Parish on Monday afternoon. Trooper Michael Reichardt says 23-year-old Shatora Hall of Bastrop was driving and there were five other people in the car at the time:

He says Hall has been charged with reckless operation and a no child restraint violation.

Slidell Police are calling it a miracle that a 50-year-old motorcyclist survived a crash with an 18-wheeler. Sergeant Daniel Seuzenua says they believe the driver of the semi was intoxicated and literally ran over the motorcycle which stopped, waiting to make a turn. Seuzeneau says the bike was dragged underneath the truck and the victim tossed off his motorcycle…

The truck driver was arrested and faces several charges.

Former Louisiana Tech star IK Enemkpali has been released by the New York Jets for sucker punching quarterback Geno Smith in the locker room and fracturing Smith’s jaw. Smith is now expected to miss six to ten weeks and Jets coach Todd Bowles called the situation very childish. Enemkpali was drafted in the sixth round by the Jets in 2014. There are reports the altercation was over money.

The Saints held their final training camp practice today before Thursday’s preseason opener at Baltimore. Head Coach Sean Payton on what the first preseason game of the year means for his team…

It doesn’t look like running back CJ Spiller will play in the preseason opener as he’s been sidelined because of an undisclosed injury. It’s reported that the injury is not considered significant.

One other NFL note…the Steelers have signed former Saints kicker Garrett Hartley, who appeared in two games with Cleveland last year.

The LSU men’s basketball team is on its way to Australia. The Fighting Tigers will play five games in three cities against teams featuring professional players. Point guard Josh Gray is not on the trip, because he played in a game that wasn’t sanctioned by the LSU compliance office.

Former University High Basketball star Skylar Mayes has recommitted to LSU. The six-foot-three point guard led the Cubs to two straight Class 3-A titles and he’ll play his senior season for Findlay Prep in Las Vegas.

ULM announces four people will be added to their athletics hall of fame during a ceremony in October. Going into the hall are former wide receiver Vincent Brisby, former baseball star Andy Davis, the voice of the Warhawks, Frank Hoffman and Larry Saulters, who played basketball at Northeastern and is the program’s career leader in assists with 398.

A beloved family cat was found mutilated on a golf course in Covington. Charlie was a friendly, 2-year-old cat, adopted last year from the St. Tammany Humane Society by the Worthington family. The family contacted the police but are still unsure of who committed this crime. Becky Worthington says they’re positive Charlie wasn’t killed by another animal.

Cat slicing has become an epidemic around the country, not just in St. Tammany Parish, according to the Louisiana Humane Society. Executive Director Jeff Dorson says they’re concerned this crime is being copied and shared around social media. He believes this is a bigger problem than authorities think it is.

Dorson says they’re turning to social media to get animal rights activists to take a stand against cruelty and call the sheriff’s office. He says these cases should be fully investigated to ensure it stops and doesn’t become a gateway to bigger crimes.

State Police say an unrestrained infant is dead after a single vehicle crash in Morehouse Parish. Trooper Michael Reichardt says 23-year-old Shatora Hall of Bastrop lost control of her vehicle, ran off the roadway, and struck a tree…

He says 1-year-old Aniyia Worsham, who was riding in the lap of a front seat passenger, was ejected from the vehicle and died from her injuries. Worsham was the only person in the vehicle who was not restrained. The five other people in the car survived the crash with only minor injuries. Reichardt says the vehicle was overcrowded…

ATC Commissioner Troy Hebert says nearly 5,500 compliance checks resulted in 821 citations statewide. He says these numbers are consistent with previous years…

The summer initiative is an attempt by ATC to prevent access of alcohol and tobacco to underage persons. Violators face fines up to $5,000 and are subject to criminal and/or administrative charges. Hebert says, more importantly, it jeopardizes a business’s ability to sell tobacco and alcohol in the state…

Of the citations issued, 460 were issued for alcohol sales to a minor and 361 for tobacco sales. Hebert says they will continue to educate businesses across the state to get the compliance rate higher. He says nothing good can come out of selling alcohol and tobacco to someone underage…

Slidell Police released video today of a 50-year-old motorcyclist who survives a horrific accident with an 18-wheeler.  Public Information Officer Daniel Seuzeneau says usually when you hear of an accident like this you assume the worst but it’s a miracle he survived.

Seuzeneau says the driver of the 18-wheeler, 56-year-old Timothy Duimstra of Michigan, apparently passed out at the wheel when he made a hard right hitting the motorcycle waiting to turn onto the main road. He says Duimstra was found to be under the influence of both drugs and alcohol during the incident.

The Tigers kick-off the season against McNeese State. LSU has announced that for the 12th straight season, they’ve sold their allotment of season tickets.

UL Lafayette wide receiver Jared Johnson has injured his left knee and he’ll miss the rest of the season. Johnson had ten catches last season, but had a chance to start this year.

ULM senior wide receiver Tyler Cain will reportedly miss the rest of the season with a lower body injury. Cain was expected to be the starting H-back this season.
