New Orleans Police have yet to establish a motive for the murder. Twenty-eight-year-old Cardell Hayes has been charged with second-degree murder and his attorney John Fuller says Hayes was not the aggressor during the altercation and believes toxicology reports on all of the individuals involved could shed light on the behavior of some of the participants.

Former LSU golfer Smylie Kaufman finished tied for 29th at the Masters after he shot a nine over-par 81 on Sunday. Kaufman teed off in the last group on Sunday with Justin Spieth, but Spieth ran into trouble on the par-3 12th hole, where he quadruple bogeyed and finished in second behind the winner Danny Willett.

In college football news…the NCAA has banned the creation of any new bowl games for at least the next three years. There are currently 40 bowl games and last season, three 5-and-7 teams received bowl bids because there wiere not enough eligible teams to fill all 80 slots.

The LHSAA has told high schools no more walk-up music for hitters at baseball and softball games. It’s because there were complaints about “explicit content” that were in some of the songs.

It’s the final home game of the season tonight for the Pelicans, who host the Chicago Bulls. Neither team is heading to the playoffs.

Bond has been set at one-million dollars for 28-year-old Cardell Hayes. He’s the man accused of fatally shooting former Saints star Will Smith after the two men were involved in a minor car accident. Hayes attorney John Fuller claims his client was not the aggressor in what police have called a road rage incident.

Baton Rouge Police are looking to arrest an additional gunman in connection with a fatal shooting that claimed the lives of two students who attended Southern University. Authorities have already charged 22-year-old Ernest Felton, who is a former member of the Southern football team, with attempted second-degree murder.

Covington Police have called a one PM press conference to announce an arrest has been made in the death of a 17-year-old who was found in a flooded ditch last month. The coroner’s office has suspected that the teenager from Mandeville died after using synthetic marijuana, also known as “Mojo.”

State Treasurer John Kennedy says there’s been a rise in state revenues as a result of increased tax collections…

A Natchitoches Parish woman is the first female to enlist in an infantry combat position in the U.S. Army. 25-year-old Grace Barnett of Robeline was in law enforcement for three years and has been working to go into the infantry since the department of defense allowed women in this role. She says it’s a great honor to serve her country on the front lines.

Barnett says patriotism runs in her blood. She says it took her as a surprise that she was actually the first woman to enlist in the infantry.

Governor John Bel Edwards is expected to call another special session to address the state’s 750-million shortfall for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1. Edwards says they have not set a date for the session, but it will likely come before the fall to stave off more cuts to state services.

So far two credit rating agencies have downgraded Louisiana’s credit rating. Edwards says that’s hardly an endorsement for how the state handled its business during the previous special session. He says lawmakers need to stabilize the budget, and they need to do it sooner rather than later.

Edwards says legislators simply have to do better, as not enough revenue was raised during the last special session to close the budget gap. He says they must find a way to keep critical programs open.

New Orleans Police Superintendent Michael Harrison says Hayes shot Smith in the city’s Lower Garden District…

Court records show Hayes won a settlement with the city of the New Orleans over the fatal shooting of his mentally ill father. Smith reportedly just finished eating with a former New Orleans police officer who was named as a defendant in that suit. Harrison says it’s too early to tell in the investigation if Hayes and Smith knew each other.

After all the concerns about the budget crisis, State Treasurer John Kennedy says Louisiana may actually end this fiscal year with a surplus. In December, the state revenues were down 15-percent, but now revenues are only down 6-percent. Kennedy says he can’t make any predictions but…

Schedler says for many parishes, tax renewals are the big item on the ballot.

State Police have been called in to investigate after a woman was run over by a police vehicle on the beach in Grand Isle. Sgt. Nick Manale says two women were tanning when the truck drove near them. He says the woman struck by the vehicle received moderate injuries.

Manale says no decisions have been made whether to cite or arrest the officer involved, who has been identified as 52-year-old Norris Esponge Junior, the assistant police chief.

The resignation of Louisiana Tech women’s basketball coach Tyler Summitt is grabbing lots of national media attention. Summitt has admitted he engaged in a relationship that was hurtful. SB Nation reports Summitt got one of his players pregnant. Gene Ponti is the sports director of K-T-V-E-TV in Monroe and he says this scandal is a black eye for the Lady Techster program and women’s basketball as a whole…

Summitt is 25-years-old and was the head coach for the Lady Techsters the last two seasons.

Tonight at 7:30 it’s LSU versus Vanderbilt. Tigers won game one of the series last night 13-4. Alex Lange is on the hill for LSU. He’s coming off a rough straight against Auburn.

There are reports the Saints have re-signed running back Tim Hightower. After spending four seasons out of the NFL after tearing his ACL in 2011. Hightower appeared in eight games with the Black and Gold last year and rushed for 375 yards and had four touchdowns. He also caught 12 passes for 129 yards.

Atlanta cornerback Jalen Collins has been suspended for the first four games of the 2016 season after violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances. Collins was a second-round pick out of LSU in 2015 and appeared in all 16 games for the Falcons last season.

In college football, the NCAA approves a rule that bans FBS programs from hosting satellite camps. The SEC pushed for this rule after Big 10 schools started holding football camps in the south.

Future Hall of Famer Kobe Bryantplays in his final game in New Orleans tonight as Lakers visit the Pelicans. There’s just four games left in Kobe’s career.

It may come as a surprise to many Louisianans, but there is an election tomorrow in 41 parishes. Polls open at 7 AM and close at 8 PM. Secretary of State Tom Schedler says this election typically has a low voter turnout because so many people aren’t aware there’s an election.

The Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival begins today and there are lots of activities for festival goers. Festival Spokesperson Shelley Matherne says there will be tons of organizations selling delicious food, as well as, games, carnival rides, and a parade. She says this is the state’s biggest free festival.

This year hasn’t been a good one for the strawberry industry given the recent flooding but Matherne says that won’t stop anyone from having a great time at the festival.

The now former head coach of the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters, Tyler Summitt, suddenly resigned Thursday after admitting to having an inappropriate relationship. The 25-year-old is the son of legendary head coach, Pat Summitt, and he’s married. Gene Ponti is the Sports Director at KTVE in Monroe. He says everyone is totally shocked at this news…:

There’s been speculation about inappriopriate behavior involving Summit and in his statement, the married 25 year-old says he is profoundingly disappointed in himself for engaging in a relationship that hurt the people he loves and respects the most. Summitt, the son of Hall of Fame Coach Pat Summit, just completed his second season as the Lady Techsters head coach.

The LSU baseball team begins a three-game series against third ranked Vanderbilt tonight. The Commodores pitchers have struck out 319 batters, second most in the SEC. Coach Paul Mainieri wants his hitters to embrace the opportunity to face some great pitchers…

LSU begins a three-game series against third ranked Vanderbilt tonight at Alex Box Stadium. The Commodores are 6-3 in the SEC, 24-5 overall. They have the second best team ERA in the league and they’ve scored the most runs out of any team in the Southeastern Conference. UL Lafayette and Southeastern Louisiana have announced they will play each other in football to begin the 2017 season. The game will take place on September 2nd at Cajun Field. It will be the first meeting on the football field for the two teams since 1981.
