The Saints held their first mini-camp practice today. Safety Jairus Byrd, who has battled his fair share of injuries, was participating with the ones during drills. Wide Receiver Robert Meachem was on the field as well on a tryout basis. He was wearing number 12, which former Saint Marques Colston wore for the last decade.

Former LSU shortstop Alex Bregman has been named to the Texas League All-Star team. The former first round pick of the Astros is hitting .313 with 13 home runs and 42 RBIs for Double-A Corpus Christi.

The final softball polls are out and LSU is ranked 3rd in the USA Today-NFCA Division One Coach Poll. The Tigers were 52-10 and lost to eventual national champion Oklahoma in the semifinals. UL Lafayette was eliminated by the Sooners in the Super Regionals and the Lady Cajuns are ranked 12th.

State Police say they’ve arrested three people that, together, lead investigators to the largest ever seizure of child pornography by LSP. Sgt. Jared Sandifer says the cases are out of Shreveport, LaPlace and Hessmer, and over one million files were seized…:

Multiple agencies are investigating the discovery of a badly decomposed woman’s body in a ditch in Iberville Parish. Authorities say it could possibly be the body of 40-year-old Lyntell Washington, who is a pregnant teacher from Baton Rouge that disappared last Wenesday. The body has been taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s office.

A massive sinkhole on Canal Street in New Orleans has been fixed. A section of the street had been closed since April 15th, before re-opening today.

The tragic massacre in Orlando is raising many questions about whether or not this could have been stopped. Executive Director of Behavioral Health Services at Baton Rouge General, Ann Wilder, says people can look for early warning signs of mental disorders…:

State Police are calling it the largest seizure of child pornography in the department’s history after they arrested three men and seized one-million files. Governor John Bel Edwards signed into law today a measure that gives drivers the option over whether they want a license that complies with the federal REAL ID security law. Without a REAL-ID complaint license, drivers would need a passport to board a domestic flight. Conservatives were worried about privacy issues as a result of data collected with the REAL ID.

Governor John Bel Edwards signed into law a measure that raises the age of adult prosecution to 18-year-olds. The legislation means 17-year-olds will go through the juvenile justice system for non-violent crimes starting July 1st, 2018. Supporters of the law say keeping 17-year-olds out of the adult court system, can help these offenders from getting in trouble again.

The Saints began a three-day minicamp at the team’s training facility in Metairie today. As long as there are no thunderstorms, fans will be able to attend the practices. They’ll get a chance to see if backup quarterback Garrett Grayson has improved over last year, who will be lining up at defensive end opposite of Cam Jordan and the new draft picks, like second round pick Michael Thomas.

LSU first baseman Greg Deichmann has told the Baton Rouge Advocate he will return to the Tigers next season. Deichmann was drafted in the 26th round by Minnesota. Right-handed pitcher Riley Smith announced on Instagram that he plans on signing with Diamondback after he was selected in the 31st round by the Diamondbacks, despite a 7.66 ERA. And LSU outfielder Antoine Duplantis was named a second-team all-american by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

And the SEC will have a team in the College World Series. Florida blanked instate rival Florida State seven to nothing to punch their ticket to Omaha.

McNeese State has a new softball coach. James Landreneau has been promoted to be the head coach after serving as the Cowgirls hitting coach and recruiting coordinator since 2013. During his four years at McNeese, the Cowgirls have compiled a record of 157-66. He replaces Joanna Hardin, who took the head coaching job at Virginia.

A strong cluster of thunderstorms is moving through northeast Louisiana this morning. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for West Carroll and Morehouse Parishes as the potential of three to four inches of rain in a short time period is possible.

In south Louisiana, Interstate 10 eastbound is closed at milepost 130, which is east of the Whiskey Bay Exit as a result of multiple crashes. Drivers are urged to take US 190 as an alternate route.

A bill signing ceremony to include 17-year-olds in the Juvenile Justice System takes place today. The Policy Director for the Louisiana Center for Children’s Rights, Rachel Gassert, says this law brings Louisiana in line with 41 other states that currently set the age of criminal responsibility at 18. She says 17-year-olds are not adults and shouldn’t be treated as such for even minor offenses.

Gassert says this will improve public safety because the recidivism rates in the Juvenile Justice System are far better than those in the adult system.

The standstill continues at the State Capitol over whether lawmakers should pass tax increases that would raise 600 million dollars in revenue, which is what the governor is seeking. The Edwards Administration says without that money there will be cuts to healthcare, education and the TOPS program. So far the House has approved 220 million dollars in tax increases but New Orleans Sen. Karen Peterson says that’s not enough…

Peterson says the Senate will not advance legislation that will correct some of the unintended consequences of the first special session, like taxing Girl Scout cookies and school lunch programs, until the House approves more revenue raising measures.

The Baton Rouge father of the eight-month-old baby girl who was left in a hot car will not be criminally prosecuted in her death. That decision was made by East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore, who says Marvin Mercer forgot to drop his daughter, Raylee, off at daycare on his way to work, because it’s not something he usually does….
