East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore has announced that over half of the protesters who were arrested following the shooting death of Alton Sterling will not face charges. Moore says he will not prosecute about 100 of the cases, because the demonstrators were arrested only on misdemeanor counts, simple obstruction of a highway.

Authorities in Baton Rouge have arrested a fourth person who was allegedly involved in a pawn shop burglary where guns were stolen that would be used to kill police officers. The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s office says a 12-year-old male juvenile was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center. Three other suspects are also in custody

Louisiana’s health department says enrollment for the state’s expanded Medicaid program, known as Healthy Louisiana, has reached 250-thousand new adults. According to the L-D-H, Healty Louisiana will bring health insurance coverage to an estimated 375-thousand working Louisianans.

The state Department of Education has announced Sedric Clark, the principal at Mansfield High in DeSoto Parish is the principal of the year, while Joni Smith, a seventh grade science teacher at Albany Middle School in Livingston Parish is the teacher of the year. A Prairieville man faces up 10 years in prison as an Ascension Parish jury found him guilty of aggravated cruelty after he used a baseball bat to kill a dog. Thirty-three-year-old Jamari Jackson claimed in 2014 the dog got the stuck in a barbed wire fence, but veterinary experts said the dog died from blunt-force trauma injuries.

Thousands attended the funeral service for Alton Sterling. Among those was a woman who bought CDs from Sterling outside the convenience store where he was shot during a confrontation with two police officers. She says Sterling was a really nice guy and something must be done to put an end to the violence.

There was a steady stream of mourners who walked past his open casket during a somber service on the campus of Southern University yesterday. Barry Davison says he came to support the family during this difficult time. He’s hopeful something positive will come of this tragedy….

Moore says he’s dismissing the cases of those who were charged with obstruction of a highway. He says those demonstrators that were charged with assaults, resisting arrest or violent acts will face prosecution.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand says his deputies were involved in a high speed chase early this morning after spotting a vehicle linked to a number of car burglaries. A New Orleans woman has been charged with attempted murder of a debuty in Jefferson Parish. Sheriff Newell Normand says 40-year-old Melissa Belanger attempted to run down a deputy with her truck after a high speed chase. Authorities shot at her and she was struck on the wrists. Belanger will be booked in jail after she’s released from the hospital.
