Louisiana Tech’s Director of recruiting Chance Trickett is leaving for a job with the Los Angeles Rams.

The LHSAA’s executive committee has called for a special meeting on Monday. According to the agenda, they will discuss Executive Director Eddie Bonine’s NFHS Report. It was that report where Bonine referred to the LHSAA as a “proverbial dumpster fire.” WWL is reporting the members of the LHSAA are not happy with Bonine’s comment and it’s possible he could be terminated. Bonine released a statement after the report became public and said the term “dumpster fire” was meant for his constitutents to make light of multiple serious situations facing the LHSAA.

New Northwestern State Baseball Coach Bobby Barbier has named Chris Bertrand as his new pitching coach. For the past four seasons, Bertrand has been the head coach at Texas-Tyler, and he led UT Tyler to three American Southwest Conference Championships. Bertrand played collegiately at Louisiana College and Bossier Parish Community College.

Police officers around the state and across the country are reeling from the Sunday’s tragic ambush in Baton Rouge, and law enforcement now has to decide where to go from here. Pineville Police Deputy Chief and President of the Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police, Darrell Basco, says officers from all over the nation are doing everything they can to help, by sending money or officers to assist in Baton Rouge.

Basco says they are also seeing tremendous community support as well. He says people have taken to social media in particular to show love for law enforcement officers.

The autopsy findings of the three officers killed in the police ambush by Gavin Long have been released. East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Dr. Beau Clark says each officer’s death was ruled a homicide due to multiple gunshot wounds. He says Long’s autopsy will be today.

Clark says once the findings are all put in a report, which takes anywhere from 60 to 90 days, it will be turned over to the law enforcement investigating unit. He says this an incredibly sad case for him to work…

The officers have been identified as East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputy Brad Garafola and Baton Rouge Police Officers Montrell Jackson and Matthew Gerald. Clark says it’s especially difficult for his office to perform autopsies on dead police officers, because they work so closely with them on many cases.

After two weeks of tragedy in the south, the community is coming together to Back the Badge. The Baton Rouge Area Foundation has set up a web page for people to donate to a fund for the fallen Baton Rouge officers. BRAF Communications Director Mukul Verma says they have already raised over $33-thousand and more donations are still coming in.

Verma says East Baton Rouge Sheriff Sid Gautreaux is on the committee that decides how the money will be used to assist these families.

Verma says the East Baton Rouge First Responders Fund was established in 1988, and it has given over $150-thousand to families of officers who were killed or wounded in the line of duty. He says donations can be made at BRAF.org, and every contribution helps.

Jackson’s uncle is Fred Jackson, a standout quarterback at Jackson state from 1968-71. Fred Jackson was an All-SWAC player as he led the league in passing his senior season.

Former LSU star and Baltimore Orioles pitcher Kevin Gausman is now 1-and-7 after allowing two runs in 6.2 innings in a two to one defeat to the Yankees.

Former Ragin Cajuns football player Charles Tillman has announced his retirement from the NFL after 13 seasons. Tillman forced 44 career fumbles, made two Pro Bowls and was named the Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2013.

Former St. Thomas More standout and walk-on punter for LSU, Bailey Raborn, was arrested in Lafayette for suspicion of driving a vehicle while impaired and careless operation, according to authorities. Coach Les Miles says he’s aware of what happened and is trying to gather more information.

According to a report released by the legislative auditor, Grambling’s athletic program has several discrepancies in the way money, expenses and revenues are reported. It says the school wasn’t able to reconcile ticket sales, account for complimentary tickets and there are money problems as it relates to student aid and salaries and benefits for coaches. A spokesman for the program told The News Star that this doesn’t mean they’ll face NCAA penalties, but corrective action will be taken.

Members of the LSU football team have been reacting to the fatal police shooting of three officers in Baton Rouge on Sunday morning. Coach Les Miles released a statement that says his heart hurts for Baton Rouge. Miles added that he prays for peace, compassion and civility as Baton Rouge moruns.

Quarterback Brandon Harris said his thoughts and prayers are with the Baton Rouge Police Department, who lost two officers in the attack. Harris says God sees no color, race, nor gender, we are all the same. And Senior Defensive tackle Christian LaCouture says violence against the people who protect us against harm has got to stop.

Coach Miles was scheduled to be at ESPN headquarters today in Bristol, Connecticut. But cancelled those plans in light of the tragic shooting. LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri also postponed a press conference that he was planning to hold on Wednesday to talk about the incoming recruiting class.

State Police Colonel Mike Edmonson says they’ve learned the gunman in the shooting that killed three officers was in Baton Rouge for a few days before showing up at Airline Highway on Sunday morning to execute his attack. There were also three officers injured in the attack. East Baton Rouge Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said deputy Nicholas Tullier is in very, very critical condition. Gautreaux says another injured deputy, Bruce Simmons, was shot in the arm and a titanium rod was used to replace the bone that was shattered. Gautreaux praised the Baton Rouge City SWAT team for killing Long, before he took down more officers.

In other news…state senator Troy Brown is facing a domestic abuse charge in Ascension Parish. Sheriff Jeff Wiley says Brown was arrested at his Geismar residence after his wife called authortied and told them that the senator was irate and bit her on the forearm. Brown was also arrested eight months ago in New Orleans for allegedly punching a woman in the eye.

Baton Rouge Police Officer Montrell Jackson is also one of the victims. Friends say Jackson was one of the best guys you’ve ever met, who loved being an officer and died doing what he loved. He and his wife had just welcomed a child into the world.

At the scene where three Baton Rouge police officers were fatally shot, members of a saddened community are placing flowers and balloons to express their support for the fallen officers. Police Chaplin Bob Ossler of New Jersey put three crosses above the impromptu memorial for the officers who were killed and prayed with the people who came with flowers. He says police need more prayers.

41-year-old Matthew Gerald, another BRPD officer killed in the ambush, is a former Marine and Black Hawk Crew Chief in the Army. He leaves behind a wife and two daughters.

Joseph Cius of Orlando set up signs across the street from the scene on Airline Highway with the message of peace and unity. He says killing is not the way to get justice.

The man identified as the shooter in the tragic fatal shooting of three police officers produced social media posts that discussed the demonstrations seeking justice for the death of Alton Sterling.  In a YouTube posting on July 10th Gavin Long says protesting Sterling’s death will not work and suggested violence instead.

The ex-Marine lived in Kansas City and carried out his violent act on the day he turned 29 years old. In his online postings, he identifies himself as Cosmo Setepenra and last week said the best way to handle the shooting of Alton Sterling by two white police officers was through more violence…

LSU Football Coach Les Miles was expected to be in Bristol, Connecticut to participate in ESPN’s “car wash” where the head coach appears on various TV and radio shows. But because of Sundays’ tragic fatal shooting of three Baton Rouge police officers, Miles cancelled the trip. In a statement, Miles says his heart hurts for Baton Rouge.

LSU basketball has received a verbal commitment from six-foot-seven, 220-pound small forward Galen Alexander, who is entering his senior season at Lafayette Cristian Academy. The four-star recruit is considered the state’s top prospect in 2017.

Pelicans Coach Alvin Gentry does not expect Tyreke Evans to be ready for the start of the 2016-17 regular season after having three sugeries on his right knee in the last nine months. The 26-year-old is entering the final year of his contract.

Below-average quarterback play and and allowing big plays on defense were a couple of reasons why the LSU Tigers struggled in the month of November last year. Cornerback Tre’Davious White believes new defensive coordinator Dave Aranda will help them avoid the mistakes that cost them last year…

Former St. Thomas More specialist and a current member of the LSU football team Bailey Raborn was arrested Sunday on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Raborn is a preferred walk-on and LSU says they are aware of the arrest.
